Summary
Ran by one of our local partners in Cusco, Peru, this is a wonderful alternative to The Inca Trail.
Classic Salkantay Trek is the second most popular route to Machu Picchu – after the Inca Trail – and it’s not difficult to see why. This route is one of the most varied and most beautiful. After leaving Cusco world heritage site we make our way through breathtaking snowcapped mountains and picturesque narrow valleys, passed beautiful lakes and waterfalls. We then pass the foot of the glacier-capped, 20,574 foot Mount Salcantay (Savage Mountain). Local villagers consider this mountain sacred, and worship it as their ancestors have for hundreds of years. We will then experience one of the fastest temperature changes, transitioning from the cold, high mountains to the warm and lush cloud forest. As a final treat we will join the Inca Trail for a short section before arriving to Machu Picchu through the stunning Llaqtapata. A pre trip meeting is held on the evening prior to the trip so you must be in Cusco by then at the latest. The panoramic train is included in this trip making it one of the best value out there!

Customer reviews & ratings
This was a trip if a lifetime! Everything from the porters, cooks and our two guides Rosa and Charlie was phenomenal. We had amazing Peruvian food! Charlie made sure we were all taken care of everyday and was very knowledgeable with the history of the Inca trail! We travelled with an amazing group and we definitely would recommend this operator to all our family and friends.
Nicole Aug, 2023 VerifiedThe trek was so great! Had such a wonderful variety of views and the hike was challenging at times, but so worth it! The company did a great job of making sure me and my friends were safe, happy, and enjoying our time! Our guides Willian and Filio were wonderful in guiding us as well as making sure we were on track. They kept the schedule well and kept track of all 10 of us. I really enjoyed my trip and the experience of this tour! I would love to do the tour again with this company! Such a great experience!
