One of the best ways to experience a new destination is through sampling the local cuisine! This not only allows you to understand more about the culture and how the locals live, but you're also supporting the locals and the economy directly. We're all about tasting the amazing flavours of the world - whether in a restaurant, on the street, or a home cooked meal on a homestay! Step out of your comfort zone and try things you might not have had before - you could be pleasantly surprised!

  • Are all meals included?

This will depend on which trip you’ve booked. Some trips have more inclusions than others, so will include more meals. Others don’t include any, to keep the tour cost down. When trekking in remote areas the operator will usually include meals - especially if there’s nowhere to purchase anything locally! Meals are listed under inclusions on our website, but if this isn’t clear please get in touch and we’ll be happy to help!

  • Is water safe to drink?

This will differ country to country. To play it safe, we recommend taking a refillable water bottle and filling it with bottled or treated water in the hotels. Remember, even if you see the locals drinking tap water, they may be used to it but as it’s different to what you’re used to, it could disagree with you.

Most western countries like the UK, USA, Australia & New Zealand you can drink tap water, but many other countries, especially through Asia, Africa and South America don’t have filtered water on tap - so best to avoid drinking tap water.

  • Should I try the local food?

Absolutely! We encourage all travellers to get involved and sample the local cuisines to get a real authentic experience. It’s important to keep in mind some countries don’t practice the same hygiene standards as you’re used to - so to avoid an upset tum remember:

Always wash your hands before eating.

Sometimes it’s best to avoid anything that’s been washed under the tap, like salad, and check that ice is manufactured correctly.

  • Can I do a cooking class?

In many destinations the tour leader will offer a chance to do a cookery class - just ask our friendly team for info on this! The most popular places for cooking classes are Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Mexico, Morocco, Italy and Spain… but there’s many more!

  • I’m Vegetarian / Vegan - will I be catered for?

Depending on where you’re travelling, the options could be wide or limited. Our operators will always ensure you get fed, but in some more remote locations this may be more simple dishes such as rice and beans.

If you’re 18-35 Click Here to check out this awesome Vegan Foodie Europe Explorer - 8 Days trip.

  • What countries are best for vegetarian/vegan diets?

Asia: India, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Taiwan

    Europe: Italy, Spain, Germany, Poland

  • I’m gluten free - will I be catered for?

Depending on where you’re travelling, the options could be wide or limited. Our operators will always ensure you get fed, but in some more remote locations this may be more simple dishes.

We recommend researching before you travel - a simple search of ‘gluten free in…’ should give you an idea of what to expect.

Also, learn the words for ‘wheat and barley’ in the local language so you can easily identify ingredients, or learning ‘no gluten’ to be able to advise the waiter is helpful too, for example:  ‘sin gluten’ (Spanish), ‘sans gluten’ (French), ‘senza glutine’ (Italian) .

It could be worth packing a few GF snacks to take with you, in case options are limited.

  • Can I eat HALAL?

Your tour guide may be able to assist you with finding food establishments that offer HALAL options, but it won’t always be possible, and the rest of the group might share your beliefs so if you’re a strict follower then you may end up eating separately from the group sometimes.

It’s not uncommon in Europe for some restaurants to claim they are Halal but also serve alcohol or pork on the menu. Some of these may have separate kitchens so if in doubt, ask.

Tips to know where you can find HALAL food:

Look for the Halal sign on the restaurant.

If it’s muslim owned or you’re in a muslim coutnry this is very likely to be halal.

    Some halal friendly countries:

    Asia: Turkey, Indonesia, Malaysia, Jordan

    Africa: Morocco, Egypt

Europe: Spain, Cyprus, Bulgaria, Bosia and Herzegovina

  • I have food allergies - Can I still travel?

Of course! We recommend that you carry an epi-pen if needed, always let us know so we can ensure the operator is aware of allergies, and another tip is to learn a sentence in the language of the country you’re visiting to say ‘I am allergic to…

Be sure to tell your airline about your allergies too so appropriate meals can be provided.

Ideal places for nut allergy sufferers: Canada, Japan, Italy, USA, Australia. These countries rarely use nuts in cooking, and will usually clearly state if there is.

Destinations for nut allergy sufferers to be aware of: China, Vietnam and Thailand use  a lot of peanuts or peanut oil in cooking - it may not always be stated on menus so important to check this before ordering.

  • What Countries Have The Best Food?

This is a hard one! It's all down to personal tastes! wherever you go you're bound to find something to tickle your taste buds!

Typically the most popular cuisines are:

Italian - who doesn't love pasta & pizza?!

Spanish - tapas is great for sampling lots of different things.

Thai - mouth watering creamy coconut curries, Pad Thai and stir fries! Can you handle your spice?!

Indonesian - delicious curries and noodles

Indian - curry based but better than your local!

Vietnamese - famous for the 'Pho' noodle soup.

Argentinian - great for meat lovers!

Brazilian - another one for the carnivores, you must check out the 'churrasco' all you can eat BBQ!
