What is ABTA?
The Association of British Travel Agents aka: ABTA, has been around for over 65 years offering guidance to customers and businesses alike, setting standards of customer service and promoting tourism. Today ABTA has more than 4,300 members who generate over £39 billion of revenue every year.
Although ABTA is arguably the most recognised brand in the travel industry, it can be seen as a bit of a ‘fuddy duddy’ organisation. In fact, we believe ABTA offers real value. Certainly in recent years ABTA is more relevant than ever with
regards to financial protection and setting standards of customer service.
How we joined
To become a member of ABTA any business must go through a rigorous application process that takes into account business health, financial health, director track records and more. Not all businesses who apply are accepted and the process can take months.
We began our application process in early summer 2019 and after a few months of submitting forms, being checked and providing financial bonds, we are delighted to have been accepted as an ABTA member. Our membership number is P8142.
Why we joined
We wanted to join and become a member of ABTA for a number of reasons but mainly:
- To show customers that we maintain high standards and the main body within the travel industry recognises us for that
- To demonstrate we protect customer payments for travel services.
- To have a source of guidance and advice for both The Adventure People and our customers
What this means for you
As an ABTA member, we subscribe to the ABTA Code of Conduct which sets out the standards expected (and we shall exceed!). We also hold a financial bond with ABTA.
ABTA will also have access to our business plan, our booking patterns, our audited accounts and really anything they wish to ensure the health of The Adventure People.
Ultimately, we want our customers to trust us and have confidence in every booking they make. All the team at The Adventure People strive to always be honest and offer the best service.
