Indonesia Tours
While many believe the capital of Indonesia to be Bali, it is actually the amazingly diverse city of Jakarta, which also happens to be the 13th largest city on earth. Few travellers going to Indonesia tend to go to Jakarta, but with it’s impressive malls, great nightlife and friendly residents, it’s a relatively undiscovered gem.
Bali has earned its great reputation for a reason, whatever sort of holiday you are after you will be able to get it from Bali alone. You can visit a Monkey Temple in Ubud, experience the black sand of Amed beach, surf in the beautiful Canggu or have a fantastic night out in the lively Kuta. It really has it all! And that’s without talking about the endless trendy cafes and beautiful spots to have a couple of Bintangs whilst the sun goes down.
Why not pop over to Java? Just a short ferry ride away, you’ll see a distinct difference to Bali. Much less touristy but still with incredible things to do. You can hike Mt Bromo, just one of over 100 active volcanoes in Indonesia. Or if you’re more of a surfer, why not head to Red Island, a laid back beach surf camp right on the beach.
If you haven’t finished Island Hopping, there are plenty other options for you. The famous Gili Islands being the most well known, the chilled out atmosphere here is second to none. Great to relax and watch the sun go down or snorkel with all the incredible marine life, it’s a highlight for many. Don’t forget about the less travelled Komodo Island to see the Komodo Dragons, or Lombok to hike up some of the tall peaks. With over 17,000 islands, you’ll never run out of things to do and see.
Some of our favourite trips include:
Bali Experience - 10 days (Ages 18+)
Jakarta to Ubud - 14 days (Ages 15+)
Classic Bali & Lombok - 14 days (Ages 12+)
Bali & Beyond - 18 days (Ages 18+)
Bangkok to Kuta: Summits & Sunrises - 27 days (Ages 18-39)
How can I get there?
There are many airlines that fly to Indonesia, so we’ll always be able to find options for you. Jakarta, Bali and Lombok are the easiest places to fly in and out of with most airlines needing just 1 stop each way from the UK. There are also a small handful of direct flights to Bali, but these run with limited airlines on limited dates, so they aren’t as easy to come by.
You can fly from many airports in the UK to Indonesia - the smaller airports with less international flights may just require an additional stop en route. It is common to stop somewhere like Bangkok, Singapore, Malaysia, Dubai or Abu Dhabi on the way to and from Indonesia, so let us know if you’d like to extend this stopover and actually have some time in one of these amazing places.
A return to Bali from London can start anywhere from around £400.
When should I go?
This tropical country has the same hot temperature all year long. Generally the best months to travel here are May - September, with July and August being the most popular times to travel. So if you’re wanting it to be a little quieter but still with amazing weather then May, June and September are the ideal months for you!
Monsoon season is from November to March where you can expect unreliable weather patterns making it a little trickier to island hop. But don’t worry, it’s still warm at this time and some travellers don’t even experience any rain during their trips in this season, it’s just pot luck!
Do I need a visa?
Currently, at the time of writing this, if you own a British passport then you don’t need a visa to enter Indonesia if you are planning on staying for less than 30 days. If you’d like to stay longer then please check out the government website for the most up to date information, you can find this HERE.
If you hold a passport from a different country then please check with your local consulate as things do change depending on your nationality.
Visa information does change often, so please check your government website well in advance of your trip and also shortly before you depart.
How should I budget for my trip?
The currency in Indonesia is the Rupiah (Rp).
The bill denominators are very high, don’t be shocked to see something cost 100,000 - it’s only around £5! Make sure you count your money carefully. ATMs are common and easy to find.
Local beer - 25,000Rp / £1.30
Coke/Pepsi - 8,000Rp / 40p
Average meal at inexpensive restaurant - 80,000Rp / £4.10
Tipping is not compulsory in the Philippines, but small change would be appreciated by restaurants, drivers and other service workers.
How safe is it there?
The vast majority of trips are trouble free, but as with any trip it’s important to be vigilant and take any regular precaution.
The British Government recommends:
Use a hotel safe for your valuables
Minimise the items you carry with you. If you carry a bag, make sure the strap is over your shoulder, away from the road to deter thieves on motorbikes from snatching it
Take extra care at night and in isolated areas
Be particularly vigilant travelling at night by bicycle or motorcycle, especially if you’re alone. Stick to well-used, well-lit roads and carry a personal alarm if possible
Avoid placing bags in the front basket of bicycles
Be wary of pickpockets, especially on public transport and in crowded areas
Always listen to the advice of your guide - they are there to make sure you have a safe and hassle free adventure!
For further safety advice, it is best to check with your local government advice. For UK citizens - please that’s the Foreign Office - HERE
The Emergency numbers are 110 for Police, 118 for Ambulance and 113 for Fire.
Do I need any vaccinations?
Some vaccinations may be required depending on where you are going and what you are doing whilst on your trip to Indonesia. The best place for the most up to date information on vaccinations is either with your local GP or at an NHS travel clinic. They will have records on if you’ve previously had vaccinations and can advise on the best options for you and your trip.
Of course, it goes without saying you’ll need to take out travel insurance before going on your trip.
