Central America packs an extraordinary amount into a narrow strip of land — active volcanoes, cloud forests, Caribbean and Pacific coastlines, ancient Mayan ruins, and some of the best wildlife-watching anywhere in the world. It's a region built for small-group adventure travel.

Mexico and Costa Rica are the best-known names here, but there's plenty more to explore too — Belize and its barrier reef, the colonial streets of Guatemala's Antigua, and further afield, Panama, Cuba and Nicaragua. These are small-group guided holidays, typically capped at a maximum of 16 to 22 travellers depending on the tour. Solo travellers make up a large part of every group, alongside couples, friends and families.
