Belize Tours

This pint-sized gem in Central America is full to the brim with wildlife, adventure, and culture. Forty percent of the spanglish-speaking former British colony is protected national parks and nature reserves, and the Belize Barrier Reef is the second largest in the world - a paradise for wildlife adventures!  Home to the ancient and mysterious Maya civilisation, you can explore archaeological sites that date back thousands of years

Belize Barrier Reef is one of the largest in the world, second only to Australia, with more than 100 types of coral and an abundance of tropical fish for you to swim with. It's a playground for scuba divers and snorkellers in the untamed underwater safari.

On dry land, Belize has plenty of jungle to discover with protected areas where you’ll find a world of different bird species, monkeys, iguanas, and you may be lucky enough to spot the elusive jaguar.

The famous cayes in the Caribbean Sea are perfect for kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, swimming, and ziplining as well as tasting the delicious amalgamation of Latin America, Caribbean, and Kriol cuisine. Head to the island of Caye Caulker and hang out on paradise sandy beaches with reggae bars and fresh seafood on the barbeque.

  • Getting There

There are a small number of direct flights but on the whole, you will need to change at least once.

If you get a good connection, the flight can take about 18-20 hours. It’s worth researching and checking the connecting flights as some options can be as long as 35 hours.
From the UK flights will cost approximately £600 - £700 and if you book well in advance you can get some great deals.

If you are travelling from the US there are direct flights available, depending on where you depart - LA and Houston, for example, have direct flights, or you may have a stopover along the way.

We recommend using Skyscanner to check the various options.

  • When To Go

The great thing about Belize is that you can visit year-round thanks to its sunny tropical climate.

There is a rainy season between June and October but showers only last a couple of hours so it shouldn’t affect your travels too much. It is often a quieter and more cost-effective time to travel, just be aware that some smaller businesses may close during this time

The hottest time is between November and May, with the hottest period starting in February, and April and May being very humid. It is a popular destination for a Christmas break and during this time places may be busier and more expensive.

If you can flexible with your travel dates, November - May is often less busy and slightly cheaper but there is still a good chance of nice weather.

  • Visa

At the time of writing, visitors from the UK, US and Europe are not required to have a Visa for visiting as a tourist for a period of up to 30 days.

If you are planning a longer stay you will need to apply for an Extension of Stay which costs approximately BZ $100. This should be submitted once you arrive at any of the Immigration Offices. It is advisable that you do this at least a week before the initial 30 days have expired.

It is always best to check the website of the Belize High Commission for all the most up to date information.

  • Money

The currency is Belize dollars and BZ $1 is about GB £0.40 or US $0.50. US dollars are frequently accepted in shops and restaurants although you may get change in local currency.

The cost of food and drink is pretty reasonable and you can expect to pay about BZ $5 for a beer and BZ $15-20 for a decent meal at a local restaurant. Of course, prices will be higher in more luxury hotels and restaurants.

ATMs are widely accessible in major cities and credit cards are accepted in most hotels and restaurants. Once you get into the more remote and rural areas this will not be the case.  It is essential that you have some cash with you.

  • Safety

There are quite high levels of crime in Belize City but on the whole, destinations that travellers will visit are incident-free.

Be extra vigilant when travelling at night, it is not always safe to walk around the city so get a taxi and remain in a group where possible.

Stick to well-used, well-lit roads and carry a personal alarm if possible. Be wary of pickpockets, especially on public transport and in crowded areas.

Try and minimise the items you carry with you. The majority of incidents are petty theft so if you carry a bag, make sure the strap is over your shoulder, away from the road to deter thieves on motorbikes from snatching it.

The vast majority of trips are trouble-free, but as with any trip, it’s important to be vigilant and take any regular precautions.  Please read the Government travel advice for full travel information.

  • Health

There is a low malaria risk in some areas. Speak to your GP and ensure you have the right medication ahead of travelling and bring good insect repellent and long sleeves for the evenings.

Pharmacies and medical supplies can be hard to come by in Belize so it is essential that you bring enough medical supplies for the duration of your stay.

Travel insurance is mandatory for all our trips so please ensure you take a policy out before travelling.

  • Helpful Information

We would not recommend you drink the tap water in Belize. Ask your hotel or guide if they can refill your bottle with filtered water.

There is an increasing number of internet cafes and wifi spots in Belize. However, they can be expensive to use and will be far more limited in rural areas.

While tipping isn’t strictly necessary or expected it is always appreciated.

English is quite widely spoken and locals love to chat and are happy to help. Your guide will always speak English too.

We try to ensure we work with the BEST local companies but remember, if you’re on a trip and don’t feel like taking part in an activity or continuing, you can stop. You don’t need to do anything you don’t want to!

Our guided adventures will take you to places well off the beaten track and provide experiences that most people just won’t get, with that in mind we encourage you to check out our growing selection! We have a lot of trips and you may find something you like but if not, please do make contact and we can always tailor make a trip for you.
