Activity Holidays - The Adventure People
Hi, this is Chris here, the CEO and founder of The Adventure People. One of the reasons I set up The Adventure People in the first place was to try to bring adventure and activity holidays to everyone.
The activity holidays we feature are generally small group tours with guides in all sorts of places around the world. The activity holidays vary in length from 4 to 45 days and more and on each trip you'll have a number of experiences.
The activities on the holidays of course vary and some holidays are more active than others but you can browse around and find what suits' you best. We also have a team of experts on hand to help guide you through should you need our assistance.
Did you know a high proportion of our customers are single and solo travellers? Almost all of our holidays are made up of small groups. Typically the groups are made up of 50% single and solo travellers (we can always tell you the make up of any given group).
It's difficult to give an average age because some trips have a low average age of say 26 and some 41 but it is true that most groups are 50/50 between male and female. We pair solo travellers with someone of the same gender to share a room, this keeps the cost down but you can always opt to pay a little more for a single room.

What is an Activity Holiday?
We think an activity holiday is a trip away which includes some experiences and activity! Active and activity holidays we think are different too.
An active holiday is one in which you're active, maybe cycling or trekking etc during most days of the holiday.
An activity holiday we feel means you engage and participate in some activities along the way but there is also plenty of relaxing time, what you'd normally find on a holiday.
Are the groups friendly?
Yes, very much so! Usually around half of any given group is made up of single and solo travellers with the rest often couples or friends and so everyone is of the same mindset. The guide is there to ease introductions and make everyone feel welcome. After the first meeting groups bond over coffee or food or yes, drinks sometimes too:) It is very rare groups 'don't work' and the dynamics just don't seem to click into place but it does happen sometimes. In these cases the guide will often be able to change a few things around which fixes any problems.
This is my first time on a holiday like this, what should I expect?
Good questions and this is a question we get asked a lot. It's difficult to tell you the specific experience because it depends upon which activity holiday you've booked but in terms of an overall experience there are a few common things:
1. You'll enjoy a mix of activity and leisure on most trips.
2. The groups are usually well mixed and very friendly
3. You'll be looked after by the guide!
4. There will be others who are on such a trip for the first time
5. You'll have a great time:)
How big are the groups?
Group sizes average at 10 to 12 people but some can be larger and some smaller. The minimum and maximum group size is show on every search result and tour page.
Suppose I don't get on with who I am sharing with?
Although rare, this can happen. We advise letting your know as soon as you can. At this point your guide will try to make arrangements to remedy the situation. The guides are all experiences and will have various ideas for solutions.
Can I get my own room?
In most cases yes you can. It may cost a little more which is worth bearing in mind. There are a handful of trips where it isn't possible for example most treks on The Inca Trail in Peru are twin rooms and single rooms are not possible. We detail if a single room is available and the price on each tour page plus you can add on to your booking when making your payment.
Do I get any free time?
Absolutely. Although you're with a group the group are not together 24/7. Free tie is built into most tours.
