Amazon Adventures

Visiting the Amazon rainforest is very much an adventure of the highest order. As of now not all of the rainforest has been explored or mapped on foot. Boasting a huge area, today it's around twice the size of Argentina - yes - at 5.5m SqKM (Argentina is 2.8m SqKM) it is also the largest ecosystem on earth. It is very likely there are animals yet to be discovered which is quite a thought !

The Amazon is of course home to a lot of animals and insects and is a wildlife lovers paradise. Most famously Jaguars are the large cat that roams the rainforest but of course it is also home to Sloths, Toucans, Parrots and hundreds of bird species, Piraña and nicer fish too .

We have a lot of adventures that take you into the Amazon on a trek, a river boat expedition, camping, staying with local people and much more.  Please do take a look and if you would like to talk about any options, ideas or just get some more information please do contact our brilliant team.

  • When To Travel

There is no bad time to visit the Amazon, there is only the dry season and the wet season and both have much to offer.

The dry season runs from June through to October with the wet season from November to May. Do bear in mind, the Amazon is a rainforest and it still rains in the dry season, it's just it rains a lot more in the wet season!

Because the climate is tropical the temperature doesn't really change to much but having said that, most people prefer to visit in the dry season as the days are a little warmer.

  • What Should I Expect?

Your experience will differ pending the adventure you take, some adventures are exclusively in the Amazon whilst on others the Amazon makes up part of a longer / bigger trip.

There are some common themes though which run through all Amazon trips. You will see wildlife, the degree of how much you see will of course vary but you will see some.

You'll also experience the tropical climate which in a rainforest is an experience all of it's own.

You'll hear the forest come alive as the sun goes down with all sorts of weird and wonderful noises as most wildlife, including the predators, prefer the night air.

You'll absorb breathtaking views and the beauty that nature at it's very finest has to offer us.

  • Is It Safe To Visit The Amazon?

Yes it is safe so long as you stay with your guide. Do not go wandering off on your own! Your guide is there to look after the group, make sure every has a good time but more importantly make sure everyone is safe.

Most people worry about spiders, bugs, snakes, etc...an whilst they do live in the Amazon, you're not likely to have an encounter with them. You may come across these animals on treks, walks etc but your guide will point them out and keep you safe.

You may need some vaccinations before you travel and we strongly advise you to see your GP and / or visit your pharmacy as they'll be able to provide assistance.

  • How Do You Make Sure You Protect The Environment?

Good question. First and foremost we only work with reputable operators who take sustainable travel, conservation and local well being very seriously indeed, as do we.

Each adventure we have on our website (not just for the Amazon adventures) not only employs local people but the operator works with local people and communities to ensure no damage is being done, rather, we and our partners want to enhance the environments whilst still letting and welcoming visitors in.

Some examples may be using locally sourced food for meals, using locally made organic soap, reduction of electricity use, use of solar, a company wide policy of 'leave no trace' - making sure you take everything with you including all waste and rubbish.

  • What Do I Need To Take With Me?

If you're headed to the Amazon there are some essentials you're going to need. We should note that within every adventure brochure (which you can download from our website with no charges) is a recommended packing list. Some essentials:

The first thing to consider is the weather, it's going to be warm but also going to be wet some of the time. You're going to need shorts,  t-shirt but also a water proof.

You're also going to need light long sleeve tops and trousers as the insects can bite, especially at dusk.

You'll need a hat, sunglasses, sun cream, insect repellant, a water bottle and a camera. You're also going to need some good walking boots.

The above are essential for all Amazon adventures but depending upon which specific adventure you choose you may require other items too, please see the adventure brochure for details or call our team.

  • Will I Need A Visa?

It is very likely you'll require a visa to visit, you'll enter the Amazon through a connecting country, most likely Brazil or Ecuador. Please check with your local embassy or Foreign Office for details.
