How Do Cycling Holidays Work?
It really depends on which type you're going for, guided or self guided.
Guided
You will join a small group at the starting hotel. On the evening of day one you'll meet your guide and group whom you'll be cycling with. On most trips your luggage will be taken ahead each morning to your next stop and you'll carry a day pack. Sometimes meals are included, if not you'll purchase along the way and your guide will provide choices and places of where to eat. You either travel from point A to point B over the duration of your holiday or your start and end at the same place.
Self Guided
Is of course much the same as guided but you'll have no guide and it will be up to you to follow the route and make sure you find somewhere to eat!
How Fit Do I Need To Be?
You can asses how challenging the ride may be via the Physical Rating from 1 (low) to 5 (challenging). Most of our cycling holidays in Vietnam are suitable for those of average fitness, the mountain region ones though are tougher! If in doubt please do contact our team and we can help!
Who Goes On Cycling Holidays?
A huge variety of people. Typically ages range from early 20s to late 70s with a mix of gender and couples and solo travellers. We can find out the make up of any group for you before you make your booking, just ask our team. You don't need to be an avid cyclist or own any lycra to enjoy most of our cycling holidays.

When Is The Best Time To Visit Vietnam?
Ah, the timing of your journey is crucial, my fellow adventurer! Vietnam's climate can be as diverse as its landscapes, so let me guide you through the seasons to find the perfect time for your cycling escapade:
1. November to April (Dry Season): This period is generally considered the best time for a cycling holiday in Vietnam. The weather is pleasantly cool and dry, making it ideal for long rides and exploration. You'll experience lower humidity levels, minimal rainfall, and comfortable temperatures, particularly in northern and central Vietnam. It's a splendid opportunity to cycle through the lush countryside without the threat of heavy downpours.
2. November to February: If you're aiming for the most pleasant weather, consider visiting during these months. Northern regions like Hanoi, Sapa, and Halong Bay can experience chilly temperatures, but it's nothing a seasoned traveler like yourself can't handle. Central and southern areas offer milder temperatures and plenty of sunshine.
3. May to October (Rainy Season): While this period is considered the rainy season, don't let it dampen your spirits entirely. Cycling during this time can still be rewarding, especially in the northern areas, which see less rainfall than the south. Just be prepared for occasional showers, high humidity, and the possibility of some routes being a bit muddier.
4. June to August: Central and southern Vietnam experience their peak rainy season during these months, so if you're planning a cycling holiday, it might be wise to focus on the northern regions during this time. However, do note that it can still rain sporadically in the north as well.
Remember, my intrepid friend, that Vietnam's geography leads to regional variations in weather, so do your research and plan your route accordingly. No matter when you choose to embark on your cycling adventure, Vietnam's diverse landscapes and warm-hearted people will welcome you with open arms and captivating vistas. So, pedal forth and let the rhythm of the road synchronize with the heartbeat of this enchanting nation!
What Is The Currency Of Vietnam?
The currency of Vietnam is the Vietnamese Dong (VND). When you visit Vietnam, there are several ways to access your money:
Cash: It's advisable to carry some cash in Vietnamese Dong for small purchases and transactions in places where credit cards may not be accepted. You can exchange your currency for Vietnamese Dong at banks, authorized exchange offices, or at the airport upon arrival. Be aware that it's often difficult to exchange Vietnamese Dong outside of Vietnam, so it's recommended to convert any leftover Dong back to your preferred currency before leaving the country.
ATMs: ATMs are widely available in major cities and tourist areas throughout Vietnam. They accept international debit and credit cards, allowing you to withdraw cash in Vietnamese Dong. Check with your bank regarding any international transaction fees or withdrawal limits that may apply. It's advisable to use ATMs located within banks or reputable establishments to minimize the risk of card skimming.
Credit and Debit Cards: Major credit cards such as Visa, Mastercard, and American Express are widely accepted in hotels, restaurants, and larger establishments in urban areas. Smaller vendors and local markets may primarily accept cash. Inform your bank or credit card company about your travel plans to avoid any potential issues with card usage abroad and to inquire about foreign transaction fees.
Traveller's Checks: Traveller's checks are not commonly used or accepted in Vietnam. It may be difficult to find places that can cash them, so it's generally more convenient to rely on cash or cards.
When accessing your money in Vietnam, it's important to keep your personal information and financial details secure. Be cautious when using ATMs, and consider using reputable banks or those located in well-lit and busy areas. Additionally, inform your bank about your travel plans to avoid any unexpected card blocks or restrictions while you are in Vietnam.
Solo Travellers
Many of our customers are solo travellers. Each of our adventures are designed to accommodate solo travellers and on most departures a number of travellers will be solo (we can always find out for you, just ask!).
If you're a solo traveller more often than not you'll have the choice to either share with someone of the same gender or book your own room. Sometimes your own room may cost a little more.
The country offers a rich cultural experience, stunning landscapes, delicious cuisine, and a wide range of activities to enjoy. Here are some reasons why Vietnam is a good destination for solo travellers:
Safety: Vietnam is generally considered a safe country for travellers, including solo travellers. Like any destination, it's important to exercise common sense and take basic precautions, such as being aware of your surroundings, keeping your belongings secure, and using reliable transportation. Overall, Vietnam has a relatively low crime rate, and the local people are known for their friendliness and hospitality towards tourists.
Welcoming Culture: Vietnamese people are known for their warm and friendly nature. You'll often find locals eager to interact and help you out, making it easy to connect with people and experience the local culture. Engaging with locals can lead to memorable encounters and insights into Vietnamese customs and traditions.
Ease of Travel: Vietnam has a well-established tourism infrastructure, making it relatively easy to navigate as a solo traveller. There are numerous transportation options available, including trains, buses, and domestic flights, allowing you to explore different regions of the country. Accommodation options are plentiful, ranging from budget hostels to luxury hotels, catering to different preferences and budgets.
Solo Traveller Community: Vietnam attracts a significant number of solo travellers from around the world. You'll have opportunities to meet fellow travellers in hostels, guesthouses, and social spaces, making it easier to find companions for activities, share experiences, and even join group tours if desired.
Diverse Experiences: Vietnam offers a diverse range of experiences for solo travellers. Whether you're interested in exploring bustling cities like Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City, trekking in the mountains of Sapa, cruising through scenic Halong Bay, or immersing yourself in the charming streets of Hoi An, there is something for everyone. The country's natural beauty, vibrant markets, historical sites, and delicious street food make it an exciting and rewarding destination for solo exploration.
While traveling solo in Vietnam can be a fantastic experience, it's important to research and plan your trip in advance, familiarize yourself with local customs and regulations, and stay informed about any travel advisories or safety guidelines provided by your home country's government. This will help ensure a smooth and enjoyable journey.
