Social Group Trips to Central America for Young Adults

Central America packs a lot into a small stretch of land — ancient ruins, jungle, volcanoes, and coastline on both the Pacific and the Caribbean — which makes it a great fit for travellers who want to cover a lot of ground without a huge amount of flying. Most of our 18-30s tours reflect that, linking multiple countries into a single overland itinerary rather than sticking to just one.

Our longest route runs from Mexico to Costa Rica, taking in Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador, Honduras, and Nicaragua along the way — seven countries in one trip, with the border crossings and logistics all planned out for you. If you'd rather focus on a shorter, single-country trip, we also offer tours dedicated to Mexico or Costa Rica, giving you more time in one place if that's what you're after.

Every tour is led by a local expert, kept to a small group size, and built for solo travellers, friends, and couples travelling together. You'll be exploring alongside other 18-30-somethings who are equally up for the adventure, with plenty of free time built in alongside the guided highlights.

At The Adventure People, we specialise in small-group tours for 18-30-somethings across Central America and beyond. Browse the tours above, or get in touch with our team if you want help picking the right route for you.

  • What is an 18-30s tour?

An 18-30s tour is a small-group trip designed specifically for travellers aged between 18 and 39. The itineraries, pace, accommodation, and free time are all built around what this age group tends to want — a mix of culture, adventure, and a good social side to the trip, without needing to plan any of the logistics yourself.

  • Will everyone on the tour be travelling solo?

Not necessarily. Our 18-30s tours attract a mix of solo travellers, pairs of friends, and couples — but everyone is in the same 18-39 age bracket, and the tours are designed to be just as welcoming whether you're travelling alone or with someone.

  • Do I need to be single to join an 18-30s tour?

No — these tours are about the age group and travel style, not relationship status. Couples and friends travelling together are just as welcome as solo travellers.

  • How big are the groups?

Group sizes vary by tour and destination, but they're kept deliberately small so you get a proper local experience and it's easy to get to know everyone in your group. You'll find the exact group size listed on each individual tour page.

  • What's the accommodation like?

It varies by tour and destination, and could include hostels, budget hotels, or guesthouses, depending on the itinerary. Accommodation is chosen to suit the pace and style of an 18-30s trip — comfortable and well-located, without unnecessary extra cost. Full details are listed on each tour page.

  • Do I need travel insurance?

Yes, travel insurance is required for all our tours. It's your responsibility to arrange cover before you travel, and your tour leader may ask to see your policy details at the start of the trip.

  • How much free time will I have?

Our itineraries strike a balance between guided activities and free time. You'll have a local expert showing you the highlights and taking care of logistics, plus time built in to explore independently, try local food on your own, or just relax.

  • Can I extend my trip before or after the tour?

Yes, in most cases. If you'd like to add extra nights before or after your tour, or extend your trip to see more of the region, get in touch with our team and we can help you build that in.

  • What's the difference between the multi-country routes and the single-country tours?

Our multi-country routes link several countries into one continuous overland itinerary — our longest goes from Mexico to Costa Rica via Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Our single-country tours focus on just Mexico or Costa Rica, giving you more time to explore one destination in depth rather than moving between several.

  • How many countries does the Mexico to Costa Rica route actually cover?

Seven: Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica. It's our longest Central America itinerary, so it suits travellers who have the time and want to see as much of the region as possible in one trip.

  • Do I need a visa for a multi-country Central America trip?

Requirements vary by nationality and by country, and several Central American countries share reciprocal entry agreements (the CA-4 border control agreement between Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, and Nicaragua, for example), which can simplify things. It's always worth checking current entry requirements for each country on your specific route before you travel.

  • What currency do I need across different countries?

This varies by route. The US dollar is widely accepted in several Central American countries alongside the local currency, but not universally, so you'll likely need a mix of US dollars and local cash depending on where your itinerary takes you. Your tour leader can advise on the best approach for your specific route.

  • Is safety a concern in Central America?

As with travelling anywhere, it's worth doing your own research on the specific areas you'll be visiting. Our tours are run with experienced local leaders who know the region well, travel in small groups, and follow routes and accommodation chosen with safety in mind.

  • How physically demanding are these tours?

It varies by itinerary. The longer multi-country routes involve a fair amount of travel time between stops, while our single-country tours in Mexico and Costa Rica tend to allow for a more relaxed pace with more time in each place. Each tour page lists a physical rating so you can check what to expect before booking.

  • What's the weather like, and when's the best time to go?

Central America has a wet and dry season rather than four distinct seasons, and this varies slightly by country. Generally, the dry season (roughly November to April) is the most popular time to visit, with more reliable weather for exploring ruins, beaches, and jungle.
