Itinerary

  • Day 1

    Amman/Petra

Arrival day. Attend a morning welcome meeting in Amman before departing directly for the remarkably well-preserved Roman archaeological site of Jerash. Enjoy a 3-hour guided tour of the site and learn more about the history of this architectural marvel as you walk through the various public squares and plazas. Continue onwards to Petra where you will have free time to get settled in before dinner on your own.

  • Day 2

    Petra

Today the group will hike from Little Petra along the ancient backdoor trail to the iconic masterpiece of Petra. The trail comes out near the Monastery where you can enjoy a boxed lunch overlooking the image most people come to Jordan searching for. Drive back to the hotel and have a free rest of the day to explore on your own or relax on the rooftop as the sun goes down past the horizon.

  • Day 3

    Petra/Wadi Rum

You’re in for an unforgettable experience on a sunrise visit to Petra to witness this famous archaeological site as the morning light crests over the sandstone cliffs. Travel back to the hotel for breakfast and then depart for the ‘Valley of the Moon’ or more commonly known as Wadi Rum. Upon arrival hop on a 4x4 and ride deep into the natural beauty and unique landscape of red sand dunes to reach your private camp amid the dunes. Take some time to get settled here and have a group dinner at camp before a walking tour for some stargazing in a sky with very little light pollution. An epic day for sure!

  • Day 4

    Wadi Rum/Aqaba

After breakfast leave the solitude of the desert for a more lively time in Aqaba on the Red Sea. Upon arrival, the day is yours to do as you please. Choose to book a boat ride with lunch and snorkelling in the marine-rich waters of the Dead Sea, or stay on land and peruse the Marina Village, or the Aqaba Local Market. Dinner this evening is on your own.

  • Day 5

    Aqaba

Get out there and fully immerse yourself in the fun experiences Aqaba has to offer its visitors. Choose to purchase a full-day beach club pass which includes lunch and will let you be as relaxed as can be on the sand, the whole day belongs to you. You can also visit the sites in town that you didn’t get a chance to check out yesterday. Dinner is wherever you please, but a nearby restaurant with some live music and a fun local crowd sounds like a good idea!

  • Day 6

    Aqaba/Madaba

Leave Aqaba and the Red Sea behind today and travel to Madaba and the salty waters of the Dead Sea. Along the way make a stop for a traditional Jordanian meal at the the tour operator-supported Al Safi Kitchen working to create a sustainable future for community members near the Dead Sea. Then, it’s the moment many have been waiting for, a soak and float in the healing waters of the sea. Search for salt chunks bobbing nearby and rub the medicinal mud on your skin. Visit St George Church next, where you will see some of the finest Byzantine mosaics in the world. Spend a free evening in Madaba before an optional dinner with the group

  • What types of accommodation can I expect on this trip?

You will stay in hotels for 5 nights and a desert tented camp for 1 night. These are generally small, locally-run hotels or pensions, which may vary in standard and facilities (e.g., some may not have elevators or air-conditioning), but are chosen for their central locations.
  • What meals are included in the tour price?

  • Will there be a tour leader, and are local guides used?

Yes, a Chief Experience Officer (CEO) will accompany the group throughout the trip to assist with travel logistics, offer suggestions, and provide general knowledge of the visited countries. Local guides are also utilized where specific expertise will enhance the experience, such as during the Jerash visit.
  • What is the maximum and average group size?

The maximum group size for this tour is 16 travellers, with an average group size of 12.
  • I am a solo traveller, will I have to pay an extra fee for my room?

No, solo travellers on group trips are generally paired in twin or multi-share accommodation with someone of the same sex, so no single supplement is required. If you prefer your own single room for all night stops, you can book the 'My Own Room' option for an additional cost.
  • Is travel insurance mandatory for this trip?

Yes, travel insurance is compulsory. You must have a policy that covers medical expenses, including emergency evacuation and repatriation, with a minimum coverage of USD $200,000. It is strongly recommended that the policy also covers personal liability, cancellation, curtailment, and loss of luggage.
  • What is the local currency in Jordan and how should I manage money?

The currency in Jordan is the Jordanian Dinar (JOD). ATMs are available in main cities and generally accept Visa and Mastercard. It's advisable to carry both types of cards if possible. Cash is recommended for situations where ATMs are not accessible, and Euros, British Pounds, or US Dollars are easy to exchange. It's also recommended to have access to an additional USD $200 (or equivalent) as an emergency fund.
  • What are the recommendations for tipping in Jordan?

Tipping is customary and expected in the Middle East. To simplify this, your CEO will collect a 'tipping kitty' at the start of the tour, approximately $45 USD per person, to cover tips for group service providers. An additional tip for your CEO is also appreciated at the end of the trip, with a guideline of $11-13 USD per person per day.
  • Are there any health considerations or recommended vaccinations for Jordan?

It is advisable to drink bottled water in Jordan. While there are no specific health requirements for this trip, it is recommended to consult your doctor for protection against typhoid, tetanus, infectious hepatitis, and polio. You should carry a First Aid kit and any personal medical requirements. Tour leaders are prohibited from administering drugs.
  • What are the visa and entry requirements for Jordan?

All countries require a valid passport with a minimum of 6 months validity. A Jordan visa can typically be obtained on arrival at land and airport borders for most nationalities for a fee of 40 JOD. However, it is essential to check the specific requirements for your passport. There is a 10 JOD departure tax if departing Jordan by land, which is included if departing by air.
  • What should I know about local dress and cultural sensitivity?

When visiting mosques and other religious monuments, modest dress is required, covering shoulders and avoiding short shorts or skirts. Outside of major cities and tourist centres, local dress is generally more conservative. Both men and women are advised to wear loose-fitting clothes with shoulders covered as a matter of respect.
  • What safety and security measures should I be aware of?

It's important to use common sense in cities, be aware of your surroundings, and mind personal belongings. A neck wallet or money belt is recommended for valuables. Leave valuable jewellery at home. Many hotels offer safety deposit boxes. A lock for luggage is advisable. Your CEO can amend the itinerary for safety reasons. During free time, exercise good judgment for optional activities. Stay in small groups and consider taxis for night excursions. Water-based activities should ideally be accompanied by a guide.
  • What optional activities are available during the trip?

In Aqaba, optional activities include an Aqaba Boat Trip with Snorkelling, a Beit Al Ward - Saayadia Cooking Class, and an Aqaba Beach Club Pass with Lunch.
  • Can I do laundry during the trip?

Some hotels provide laundry facilities for a charge. There may be times when you need to do your own laundry, so bringing non-polluting/biodegradable soap is suggested.
  • What is Planeterra and how does this tour support local communities?

Planeterra International Foundation is a non-profit dedicated to connecting local communities with tourism benefits. On this tour, you will stop for a traditional Jordanian meal at the tour operator-supported Al Safi Kitchen in the Jordan Valley, which works to create a sustainable future for community members. You can also participate in the 'Dollar-a-day Program' to donate to Planeterra projects, with 100% of your donation directly supporting communities.
  • What should I know if my trip falls during Ramadan?

If your trip falls during Ramadan (e.g., Feb 28th - Mar 29th 2025, Feb 17th - Mar 19th 2026), please be aware that Muslims fast between sunrise and sunset. Services and schedules might have some limitations, but tours generally operate effectively, and food is available for non-Muslims. It is crucial to display increased cultural sensitivity, wear loose-fitting clothes that cover knees and shoulders, and avoid eating, drinking, or smoking in public out of respect for those fasting.
