Yes, it is recommended to have access to at least an additional USD $200 (or equivalent) as an emergency fund for unforeseen circumstances.
  • What is the tipping policy in South Korea and for the tour leader?

Tipping is generally not practiced in South Korea for local services like restaurants or taxis, and leaving money may cause confusion. However, if you feel your Chief Experience Officer (CEO) did an outstanding job, tipping is highly appreciated, with a guideline of $5-7 USD per person, per day.
  • What are the recommendations for currency and credit cards?

ATMs are available in most places and typically accept Visa, Mastercard, and Debit Cards, but not all machines may work with your card. It's best to bring USD cash for exchange when necessary. Credit cards are not widely accepted for purchases, except in some restaurants and department stores, so a variety of payment options is recommended.
  • What is the recommended dress code to respect local customs?

In Asia, a more conservative dress standard is recommended. Please pack loose, lightweight, long clothing that covers knees and shoulders, especially when visiting temples or holy sites, to remain cool and respectful in the often hot and humid climate.

  • What should I know about safety and security on my trip?

It is recommended to check your government's travel advice before departure and use a neck wallet or money belt for valuables. Leave valuable jewelry at home. Many hotels offer safety deposit boxes. While cities are generally safe during the day, it's advised to stay in small groups and take taxis at night. Your CEO can amend itineraries for safety reasons and will accompany you on included activities. Optional activities are at your own judgment and risk. For water-based activities, only participate when accompanied by a guide.
  • Is there an extra cost for solo travelers?

Solo travellers are generally paired in twin or multi-share accommodation with someone of the same sex for group trips, and there is no single supplement on most nights. However, Night 2 (Hanok Stay) is an exception regarding rooming arrangements.
  • Are laundry facilities available during the trip?

Some hotels offer expensive laundry services. Your CEO can direct you to self-service coin laundries in larger cities. It's suggested to bring non-polluting/biodegradable soap for personal laundry.
  • What is Planeterra and how does this tour support local communities?

Planeterra International Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to creating local income from tourism by developing and supporting community-owned businesses that empower Indigenous people, women, and youth, and protect the environment.
