Summary
Take in the best of Serbia on this 7-day group tour, starting with Belgrade’s landmarks like Knez Mihailova Street, and the Temple of Saint Sava, followed by a scenic cruise along the Sava and Danube rivers. Travel north to Fruska Gora National Park and the wine region of Sremski Karlovci, then visit the charming Novi Sad. Explore Oplenac and a traditional winery in the Sumadija region, before discovering Zlatibor’s Gold Gondola, Sirogojno village, and Stopića Cave. Itinerary
Day 1
Welcome to Belgrade
Welcome to Serbia! Upon arrival in Belgrade, our driver will greet you at the Nikola Tesla airport and take you to your hotel. As you travel by coach, you can relax and take in the sights of New Belgrade, featuring Socialist architecture and modern business centres like the Usce Tower. After checking in at your hotel, you will have free time to rest and prepare for the tour.
In the evening, you can stroll from Belgrade’s historic quarters to the bohemian charm of Skadarlija. Along its 19th-century cobbled streets, you’ll find kafanas—traditional taverns where you can savor local delicacies while enjoying live folk music.
Day 2
Belgrade sightseeing
Today, we enjoy a walking and driving tour of Belgrade, starting with a visit to Knez Mihailova Street, lined with shops, cafés, and historic buildings. The city is renowned for its diverse architecture, rich history, and one of Europe’s largest river confluences.
Our guide will then take us to the city’s oldest tavern, "?", near the main district, where we’ll sample traditional drinks, including coffee and rakija. We’ll learn about local customs and the UNESCO-protected art of making sljivovica, a plum brandy. We’ll also see the Belgrade Fortress and Kalemegdan Park, offering scenic views where the Sava and Danube rivers meet.
We’ll cross Branko's Bridge into New Belgrade, admiring the bold Brutalist architecture and the Belgrade Waterfront, symbols of the city’s modern transformation. Our panoramic tour will cover key landmarks such as the Ada Bridge, Dedinje, and the Museum of Yugoslavia. We’ll then visit the iconic Temple of Saint Sava, the fourth-largest Orthodox temple in the world, known for its stunning mosaics. Our tour will conclude in the Republic Square, giving us an understanding of the country's diverse culture, heritage, and history.
After, we will enjoy a scenic sunset cruise over the grand Sava and Danube Rivers, offering a new perspective of Belgrade on the water, passing iconic landmarks, with views of Belgrade's skyline, and bridges.
Day 3
Fruska Gora National Park, Sremski Karlovc & Novi Sad
Belgrade - Fruska Gora National Park - Sremski Karlovci - Novi Sad - Belgrade. Today, we will travel north to the province of Vojvodina, through the scenic wine region of Fruska Gora National Park, known as the "Serbian Holy Land," home to 17 Serbian Orthodox monasteries. Our journey will take us to the Krusedol Monastery, where we will have the opportunity to learn about its history and hear stories from the monks.
Our tour continues to Sremski Karlovci, a gem of Serbian culture, we will notice its Baroque centre, the Patriarchal Court, the Cathedral of Saint Nicholas, and the first Serbian secondary school. Known for its winemaking tradition, the town is a focal point of Serbian wine culture. Next, we’ll explore the captivating Fruska Gora wine region, celebrated for its centuries-old winemaking tradition. Surrounded by scenic vineyards and rolling hills, we’ll discover some of Serbia’s finest wines. At a local winery, we’ll taste a selection that highlights the region’s rich diversity and craftsmanship, including Bermet – the renowned Serbian wine that once graced the tables of the Titanic.
Next, we’ll visit Novi Sad, the lively capital of Vojvodina and 2021 European Capital of Culture. Famous for hosting EXIT, Southeast Europe’s largest music festival, we’ll glimpse into the historic landmarks like City Hall and the old town, as well as cultural sites such as the wife of Albert Einstein, Mileva Einstein’s former home and the historic synagogue. We’ll also see the Petrovaradin Fortress, offering stunning views of the Danube River and city. After a short drive, we’ll return to Belgrade where you will enjoy the evening at leisure.
Day 4
Wine Experience in the Serbian Tuscany
Belgrade - Sumadija Region - Zlatibor. This morning, we depart from Belgrade, heading south with our first stop at Oplenac, a place where royalty is laid to rest and history comes alive. Here, we will visit the impressive royal mausoleum and one of the picturesque wineries that showcase Serbia’s regal heritage.
Next, we’ll explore the Sumadija region, known as the "Serbian Tuscany," where we’ll visit a century-old winery. Here, we’ll taste three wines made using traditional methods and learn about the Royal Karađorđevic dynasty, who shaped Serbia’s history and winemaking traditions. In the wine cellar, we’ll see the craftsmanship behind each bottle and gain a deeper appreciation for Serbia’s winemaking heritage.
After our wine experience, we will make our way to the renowned Zlatibor mountain, home to the first royal resort in Serbia. We will then check into our accommodation for the next two days. You will then have some free time to explore the quaint town centre.
We’ll regroup for dinner to savour traditional Serbian cuisine, starting with rich ajvar (pepper relish) and creamy kajmak (clotted cream), paired with artisan-cured meats. We’ll enjoy hearty proja (pies), the beloved Serbian cornbread, before indulging in succulent veal or freshly caught fish, expertly prepared to bring out the best local flavours.
Day 5
The Gold Gondola, Sirogojno & Stopica Cave
Zlatibor - Sirgojno - Zlatibor. After breakfast, we head to the Zlatibor Mountain range to experience the world’s longest panoramic lift, the Gold Gondola. Covering nine kilometres, it takes us from Zlatibor’s centre to its highest peak, Tornik, offering breathtaking views of rolling meadows and the serene Ribnicko Lake. Have your camera ready to capture stunning landscapes stretching for hundreds of kilometres across western Serbia.
Next, we will make our way to Sirogojno, home to the Old Village (Staro Selo) open-air museum and the iconic Sirogojno sweaters, crafted from raw wool. This fascinating site showcases traditional rural homes, including the family house, milk house, and bread-making house, offering a glimpse into mountain life and Serbia’s rich heritage.
Our final stop for the day is Stopica Cave, where we’ll explore Zlatibor’s underground wonders. Shaped by the Trnava stream, this 2,000-metre river cave rises 50 metres high. We can discover the Light Hall, Dark Hall, and the Great Hall with its cascading pools. Though sparse in stalactites, the cave is famed for its striking limestone pools, making it one of Eastern Europe’s most stunning caves.
The evening is at leisure to further explore, relax or enjoy dinner at one of the traditional restaurants.
Day 6
Sargan Eight Railway & the Town of Drvengrad
Zlatibor - Belgrade. After breakfast, we depart from Zlatibor, making our way through the Mokra Gora region. We begin our journey on the Sargan Eight Railway, an authentic retro train that winds through breathtaking mountain scenery. Named for its figure-eight route, this narrow-gauge heritage railway takes us through tunnels and across viaducts, offering a nostalgic glimpse into the past. Once part of the historic Belgrade-Sarajevo railway, it remains a stunning tribute to the region’s railway heritage.
After, we will travel to the traditional village of Drvengrad, known as the wooden town, built by the renowned film director Emir Kusturica. Constructed mainly from wood, the village features the Mecavnik Hotel, galleries, shops, a cinema, and a church. Since 2008, Drvengrad has hosted the Kustendorf Film and Music Festival, welcoming stars like Johnny Depp, Monica Bellucci, and Jim Jarmusch.
Later you will have time for lunch, before we continue our journey back to Belgrade. Once we have arrived in Belgrade you will have the rest of the day at your leisure to explore, enjoy dinner at one of the local restaurants or relax.
Day 7
Goodbye Belgrade
Tuck into breakfast before check out and the end of our touring arrangements.
