Frequently asked questions

  • What kind of activities are included in this tour?

This tour is packed with adventure, including mountain biking from Malaga Pass, ziplining over the jungle in Santa Teresa, hiking to the Llactapata ruins, a guided tour of Machu Picchu, and a challenging hike up Rainbow Mountain.
  • What is the accommodation like on this tour?

Accommodation consists of simple hotels, with 5 nights in twin-share rooms and 1 night in a multi-share hotel. Most accommodations will have shared bathroom facilities. Please note that hot water shortages and power outages can be fairly common in Peru.
  • Are meals included in the tour price?

The tour includes 5 breakfasts and 3 lunches. Dinners are generally not included to give you flexibility, but your CEO can recommend local eateries.
  • What is the physical rating or difficulty level of this tour?

This tour has a physical rating of 4. It includes active adventures like mountain biking and a challenging hike to Rainbow Mountain. Travelers should have at least an average level of fitness and mobility, able to walk unaided and carry their own luggage. The trip involves high altitude (over 8,000 feet/2,440 meters), and it's recommended to consult your physician about altitude sickness preparedness.
  • What is the typical age range and group size for this tour?

This tour is designed for "18-to-Thirtysomethings," with a minimum age of 18 and a maximum age of 39. Group sizes range from a minimum of 1 to a maximum of 16 participants.
  • What is the local currency in Peru, and what are the best ways to handle money?

The local currency is the Nuevo Sol (PEN). Debit and credit cards are useful for cash advances, but be aware that many ATMs only accept 4-digit PINs, and card acceptance can vary. Credit cards are generally not widely accepted for payments outside major cities, and a 5%-10% fee may apply. It's best to carry a combination of cash (in good condition, denominations lower than 100 USD are preferred) and cards, and always have at least an additional USD $200 (or equivalent) as an emergency fund.
  • Is tipping expected in Peru, and what are the recommendations?

Tipping is customary in Latin America and is an expression of satisfaction. Recommendations for tipping drivers and local guides range from $5-$10 USD per person per day. For the trekking crew, around $50 USD is suggested, and for your CEO, a guideline of $20-$25 USD per person per week is appreciated.
  • What are the specific regulations for visiting Machu Picchu?

Current and correct passport details are required at the time of confirmation. New regulations require visitors to follow different circuits within the site to manage crowding. While efforts are made to keep groups together, it's possible that members of the same group might visit Machu Picchu on different circuits. Regardless of the circuit, you will experience the beauty and grandeur of the site.
  • Will there be a tour leader or guide for the trip?

Yes, a CEO (Chief Experience Officer) accompanies the group throughout the trip. They provide information, suggestions, recommend local eateries, and introduce you to local friends. Local guides are also used for specific knowledge at certain sites like Machu Picchu.
  • Are there any optional activities available during the tour?

Yes, optional activities are available in Cusco, such as visiting the Inka Museum, taking a Cusco City Tour, or purchasing a Cusco Tourist Ticket. In Aguas Calientes, you can visit the local hot springs. These activities typically incur an additional cost.
  • What do I need to know about traveling to high altitude?

The adventure travels to high altitude, medically defined as anything over 8,000 feet (2,440 meters). While most people adjust with minimal effects, everyone reacts differently, and altitude sickness can affect anyone regardless of fitness or age. It is strongly recommended to consult your physician for up-to-date medical travel information and advice on how to prepare for and manage potential effects of high altitude. A medical questionnaire may be required for pre-existing conditions.
  • What modes of transportation are used during the tour?

Transportation during the tour includes private vehicles, walking, and train travel.
