  • I think we absolutely made the right choice choosing G Adventures for our trip. Everything they had control over was arranged and executed to the highest standard and no one in our group was unhappy with any of the results. I would recommend G adventures to anyone looking to to go on an adventure in another country. They would not be disappointed. They were amazingly professional and were well worth the money and then some.

  • The experience was really good and very intense . The only issue was the hotel in Cusco . The hotel Villa Hermosa in Cusco was way below our expectations .

Frequently asked questions

  • What is the physical rating for this tour?

This tour has a physical rating of 4, which is considered 'Active' and involves challenging physical activity.
  • Will the altitude affect me during the trip?

Yes, the adventure travels to high altitude (over 8,000 feet / 2,440 meters). Everyone reacts differently, and altitude sickness can occur regardless of fitness or age. It is recommended to consult your physician on how to best prepare.
  • What is the maximum and average group size for this tour?

The maximum group size is 16 travellers, with an average of 12.
  • What kind of accommodation is provided during the tour?

Accommodation includes 5 nights in hotels and 3 nights camping. Please note that hot water shortages and power outages can be common in Peru, even in upgraded hotels.
  • What are the camping arrangements on the Inca Trail?

During the Inca Trail, three-person tents are used to accommodate two travellers, leaving room for sleeping mats and bags (available for rent). Basic permanent toilet facilities are available along the trail, and private toilet tents are set up for travellers.
  • Is there an extra cost for single travellers?

Our group trips are designed for shared accommodation and do not involve a single supplement. Single travellers are paired in twin or multi-share accommodation with someone of the same sex. However, for nights 4-6 on the Inca Trail (camping), single tent requests are currently accommodated due to health and safety protocols, though this may change.
  • How many meals are included in this trip?

The trip includes 8 breakfasts, 4 lunches, and 3 dinners.
  • What kind of food can I expect on the trek?

While trekking in remote regions, food is included, plentiful, and made of fresh local ingredients. You can expect restaurant-quality meals prepared by our chefs, even with limited facilities.
  • Who will be leading our group on the tour?

You will have G Representatives in Lima and Cusco, and a specialist Inca Trail CEO (Chief Experience Officer) will lead the hike. We also use local guides where specific knowledge is beneficial.
  • What support is provided on the Inca Trail?

A crew of local porters, cooks, and guides will handle all trek details. Porters carry most of the communal gear and a portion of your personal gear, so you'll only need to carry a small daypack.
  • What is the weight limit for personal belongings carried by porters on the Inca Trail?

Porters are allowed to carry no more than 6kg (13.2 lbs) of personal belongings per hiker, which will be carried in a duffle bag provided by our local office. This includes your sleeping bag, toiletries, and clothing. Any additional weight must be carried in your day pack.
  • Are domestic flights within Peru included?

Yes, all local flights are included in the cost of your tour unless otherwise noted. It is important that we have your passport information at the time of booking to process these tickets.
  • Is international airfare included in the tour price?

No, international flights are generally not included in the price of your tour.
  • What forms of transportation are used during the tour?

Transportation methods include plane, train, private van, and hiking.
  • Is travel insurance required for this trip?

Yes, travel insurance is compulsory. It must include medical coverage with a minimum of USD 200,000 for repatriation and emergency rescue. We strongly recommend policies that also cover personal liability, cancellation, curtailment, and loss of luggage and personal effects.
  • What is the local currency and are credit cards accepted?

The local currency in Peru is the Nuevo Sol (PEN). Credit and debit cards, especially Visa, are useful for cash advances. While ATMs are widely available, there's no guarantee your cards will always work in Latin America, so a combination of US dollar cash and cards is best. Note that a 5-10% fee usually applies for credit card purchases.
  • How much emergency money should I bring?

It is recommended to have access to at least an additional USD $200 (or equivalent) as an 'emergency' fund for unforeseen circumstances outside our control.
  • Will there be Wi-Fi or cellular service on the Inca Trail?

No, there will be no Wi-Fi and limited cellular service available for much of the trek.
  • Are there any specific health considerations before traveling?

It is your responsibility to consult with your travel doctor for up-to-date medical travel information and required inoculations, including Yellow Fever. We recommend carrying a First Aid kit and hand sanitizers, as well as any personal medical requirements. Your adventure travels to high altitude, which affects everyone differently.
  • What safety measures should I be aware of in cities like Lima?

Care should be taken when wandering alone in central Lima, as some areas can be dangerous and pickpockets are daring. We recommend staying in small groups and taking taxis to and from restaurants or during night-time excursions.
  • What are the rules regarding illegal drugs and exploitation of prostitutes?

Illegal drugs will not be tolerated on any trips. Possessing or using drugs contravenes local laws and puts the group at risk. The exploitation of prostitutes is completely contrary to our travel philosophy. Our CEOs have the right to expel any group member violating these rules.
  • What optional activities are available in Lima?

Optional activities in Lima include a Lima Cooking Class (4hrs), Lima City Tour (40USD per person), and a Full Day Lima Experience (150USD per person).
  • What optional activities are available in Cusco?

Optional activities in Cusco include a Cusco City Tour (45PEN per person), a visit to the Inka Museum (10PEN per person), and a Cusco Cooking Class.
  • What optional activities are available in Ollantaytambo?

In Ollantaytambo, you can opt to hike to the Ollantaytambo storehouses and explore the ruins, or wander the cobblestone streets and visit a local Chicheria (corn beer bar).
  • What "G for Good" moments are included in this tour?

The tour includes visits to the tour operator-supported Ccaccaccollo Community and Women's Weaving Co-op, and an included lunch at the tour operator-supported Parwa Community Restaurant in Huchuy Qosco, providing authentic local experiences while supporting communities.
  • Is tipping customary in Peru?

Yes, tipping service providers like waiters (approximately 10%) is customary. For drivers and local guides, $5-10 USD per day is recommended. For the Inca Trail, suggested contributions to a collective pool are 15-30 USD for the Head Guide, 10-20 USD for the Assistant Guide, and 40 USD for the trekking crew per hiker. An optional tip for the CEO of $20-25 USD per person, per week, is also appreciated.
  • What happens if the Inca Trail is closed?

Portions of the Inca Trail are closed for general maintenance in February each year. Closures may also occur at other times due to inclement weather or unforeseen conditions. During these periods, any affected tour will hike the Lares Trek as an alternative.
  • Are there specific regulations for visiting Machu Picchu?

Yes, current and correct passport details are required at the time of confirmation. Regulations mandate that different circuits are followed within the site to manage crowding. Travellers completing the 4-day Inca Trail will be on Circuit 5 upon reaching Machu Picchu, which includes access to the panoramic viewpoint.
  • Can I opt out of hiking the Inca Trail?

Yes, you can advise at the time of booking if you do not wish to hike the Inca Trail. Instead, you will have 2 nights in Cusco, travel by train for a night in Aguas Calientes, and then join the hikers for the tour of Machu Picchu.
  • When can I do my laundry on this trip?

Laundry facilities are offered by some of our hotels for a charge. There will be times when you may want to or have to do your own laundry, so we suggest bringing non-polluting/biodegradable soap.
