Summary

The Galápagos Islands all have one thing in common: beautiful landscapes and incredible wildlife. (Okay, that’s technically two things, but you get the idea). Travelling aboard the Yolita, this tour takes you to some of the lesser-visited islands like Genovesa in the north and Isabela in the west. Expect to witness an amazing concentration of birdlife and massive bird rookeries, including the largest nesting colonies of red-footed boobies and frigatebirds. Hike right to the top of the Sierra Negra, Galápagos’ most recently active volcano, relax on the white-sand beaches, or snorkel with sea lions. Better yet, do it all.

  • Excellent trip. We preceded this trip with the Highlands of Ecuador, and both trips gave us a more complete experience in Ecuador. The adventures are well-described and delivered.

Frequently asked questions

  • What type of accommodation can I expect during the tour?

You will stay in hotels for 2 nights and aboard the Yolita in twin-share cabins for 7 nights. Twin beds can be converted into a double bed if requested prior to the tour.
  • What is the maximum group size and who will lead the tour?

The maximum group size is 16, with an average of 12. The group will be led by a CEO (Chief Experience Officer)/Naturalist Guide, certified by the Galápagos National Park Authority, while in the Galápagos Islands, and a local representative in Quito.
  • What meals are included in the tour?

The tour includes 9 breakfasts, 7 lunches, and 7 dinners. Meals on the Galápagos yachts are plentiful and made from fresh local ingredients. Dining is casual with unassigned tables. Vegetarian options are available, and special dietary requirements can be accommodated with advance notice. Coffee, tea, and water are provided free of charge on board.
  • Are international and local flights included in the cost of the trip?

International flights are generally not included. However, all local flights to and from the Galápagos Islands are included in the cost of your tour. It is important to provide your passport information at the time of booking to process these local tickets.
  • Is travel insurance required for this trip, and what are the entry requirements for Ecuador and the Galápagos Islands?

Travel insurance is compulsory and must include medical coverage, with a minimum of USD 200,000 for repatriation and emergency rescue. Proof of insurance (covering medical, accident, death) is mandatory for entry into Ecuador. All countries require a valid passport with a minimum of 6 months validity. Additionally, there is a Galápagos Islands Park entry fee of $200 USD per person (or $100 USD for children under 12) payable in CASH upon arrival in the park, and a Transit Control Card fee of $20 USD per person, to be purchased in CASH at Quito airport before your flight to Galápagos.
  • What currency should I use, and how much spending money will I need?

The local currency is the US Dollar. Due to the remoteness of the Galápagos Islands, credit card machines are not available on board the vessels, so only cash is accepted. It's important to withdraw enough cash for the duration of your trip, as ATMs in the islands are extremely limited and unreliable. Bring USD banknotes in denominations smaller than $100. It is recommended to have access to at least an additional USD $200 as an emergency fund.
  • What level of physical fitness and mobility is required for this tour?

An average level of fitness and mobility is required. Travellers must be able to walk without the aid of another person, climb 3-4 flights of stairs, step on and off small boats (pangas) for 'wet' or 'dry' landings, and carry their own luggage. The yacht does not have an elevator. Some snorkeling activities will take place in open water and require going up and down small ladders from the panga. Please note that Quito is at high altitude (over 8,000 feet/2,440 meters), and everyone reacts to altitude differently.
  • Are there any optional activities available?

Yes, optional activities include the Quito Teleférico (9 USD per person) and a Quito City Tour & Equator Line. There is also an optional full-day Cotopaxi Volcano tour.
  • Are laundry facilities available during the trip?

Laundry facilities are available at the start and end hotels for a charge. Full laundry facilities are not available onboard the yachts in the Galápagos. If you wish to do personal laundry, bringing non-polluting/biodegradable soap is suggested.
  • What should I know about safety and security?

We recommend checking your government's travel advice before departure and using a neck wallet or money belt for valuables. Leave valuable jewelry at home, and utilize hotel safety deposit boxes. A lock is recommended for securing your luggage. While cities are generally safe during the day, it's recommended to stay in small groups and take taxis at night. Illegal drugs and the exploitation of prostitutes are strictly prohibited and will result in expulsion from the group. All water-based activities should be done with a guide, and swimming/snorkeling is at your own risk.
  • Can I request a specific cabin on the Yolita?

Rooming on our Galápagos yachts is done on a first-come, first-serve basis, and we are not able to guarantee a specific cabin. Cabins are comfortable and clean with private bathrooms, though window sizes and noise levels (due to proximity to the engine room) may vary.
  • Am I allowed to bring my own alcoholic beverages aboard the Yolita?

No, you should not bring alcoholic beverages aboard, as the boat has a bar offering a variety of alcoholic drinks at reasonable prices.
  • Is there an extra cost for solo travellers?

Our group trips are designed for shared accommodation and do not involve a single supplement. Single travellers are paired in twin-share accommodation with someone of the same sex for the duration of the trip. If you have booked the 'My Own Room' option, you will receive your own single room for all night stops.
  • What is included in the tour price?

The tour price includes arrival transfer, 7 nights aboard the Yolita in the Galápagos Islands, flights to and from the Galápagos Islands, a Certified Galápagos National Park Service guide, all landings, excursions, transportation, snorkeling equipment, and wetsuits.
