Summary

When people think of China, they picture massive, lit-up cities with delicious food. And while that's spot on, there's a whole other side to China we can't wait to show you. Kick things off in Chengdu, one of those huge, bright cities we mentioned. Then, venture into the less-traveled parts of China, like the stunning mountains of Yangshuo and the historic Hakka Houses in Yongding. Wrap it all up in one of the most unique cities in all of China. Now, that’s an epic adventure waiting to happen.

Itinerary

  • Day 1

    Chengdu

Welcome to China! Arrive at any time, then meet your CEO and group in the evening for a Welcome Meeting & Orientation walk. Afterwards, join your crew for your First Night Out in the vibrant city of Chengdu!

  • Day 2

    Chengdu/Yangshuo

We'll ditch the big city this morning and head to the mountains today. A late morning bullet train brings us to the city of Yangshuo. After we arrive, we'll take an orientation walk of this picturesque, riverside city.

  • Day 3

    Yangshuo

Today we'll hop on a bike and explore the countryside of Yangshuo. Ride along the river, travel through a local village and stop for lunch at a local restaurant, all while taking in the incredible mountains surrounding the area. In the afternoon, head back to the city and enjoy a free evening.

  • Day 4

    Yangshuo

Enjoy a free day in Yangshuo! While this city may not be as big as some of China's other top destinations, there is no shortage of things to do here. Opt to visit the Xianggongshan & Tea Farm or go to the Impression Liu Sanjie light show. How about a Tai Chi or Kung Fu class? Even a cooking class!

  • Day 5

    Yangshuo/Guangzhou

We'll arrive to the train station this morning to take a bullet train to one of the most important cities in China, Guangzhou. After arriving and a short rest, we'll hit the town and take a tour to see what Guangzhou has to offer. Visit Chen Clan Academy and the Shamian Island. Then in the evening, opt to take the Pearl River boat cruise under the Guangzhou city lights.

  • Day 6

    Guangzhou/Yongding

The next two nights are a special opportunity to stay in the extremely unique homes of the Hakka People. We'll stay in Hakka Tulou, ancient fortified buildings. Some can be 5 stories tall and some can be dated back to the 12th century. Travel back to the past as we explore this super off the beaten path part of China. Today's travel brings you quite a distance so charge up those devices and get your playlists ready to roll.

  • Day 7

    Yongding

Wake up in one of the most unique places you'll ever stay. Then join your group and take an orientation walk of the Hakka Cultural Village. This afternoon, you'll have the opportunity to explore this impressive fortress how you'd like. Learn from the locals and hear their stories about how their families have been living in these homes for hundreds of years.

  • Day 8

    Yongding/Shanghai

Say goodbye to the community at the Hakka Houses before we head off on our journey to Shanghai. This is a long travel day, but the big city beckons! Shanghai is known to be distinct from the rest of China as one of the most internationally influenced cities in the country. It's an awesome spot to end our trip!

  • Day 9

    Shanghai

Start today with an orientation walk in Shanghai. Then join your CEO to head to some of the cities most popular spots. Start in the historical, waterfront district of the Bund Area and then pay a visit to Shanghai Old Town. This afternoon, tick off whatever is left on your Shanghai to do list with some free time. Opt to visit the Yuyuan Garden, shop and stroll through Nanjing Road or ask your CEO from some local restaurant recs. The options are endless in Shanghai! In the evening, join your crew for a Big Night Out!

  • What modes of transportation will be used during the trip?

The trip utilizes a variety of transport including bullet trains, metro, public buses, private vehicles, bicycles, and walking.
  • Is there an extra cost for traveling solo?

No, solo travelers are not charged a single supplement as accommodations are typically shared with someone of the same sex. However, please note that for nights 6 and 7 (Hakka guesthouse), exceptions apply for 'My Own Room' options.
  • Will I have internet access in China, and are there any restrictions?

While traveling through mainland China, some popular internet websites like Google, Dropbox, Gmail, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and WhatsApp are restricted. It's recommended to install a suitable VPN on your device prior to travel if you wish to access these sites, or enable data roaming.
  • What should I know about currency and payment methods in China?

The local currency is Chinese Yuan (CNY). While common payment methods are apps like WeChat Pay and Alipay (which you should set up beforehand, linking a credit/debit card and using data roaming), it is strongly recommended to carry some cash as a backup, as credit cards or mobile apps may not always work, especially outside first-tier cities or with small vendors.
  • How much emergency money should I bring?

You should have access to at least an additional USD $200 (or equivalent) as an emergency fund for unforeseen circumstances requiring route changes.
  • Is tipping customary in China?

Traditionally, tipping is not expected for general interactions in China. However, it is customary, though not compulsory, in the tourism industry. • Are there any health considerations I should know before traveling?

It is your responsibility to consult with your travel doctor for up-to-date medical travel information and required inoculations well before departure. We recommend carrying a first-aid kit, hand sanitizers, and any personal medical requirements. Our leaders are prohibited from administering drugs.
  • How should I dress to respect local customs during the tour?

In Asia, dress standards are more conservative. Pack loose, lightweight, long clothing suitable for hot and humid climates. When visiting temples or holy sites, dress respectfully, avoiding very short shorts/skirts and singlets/tank tops.
  • What activities and experiences are included in the tour price?

Included activities are orientation walks in Chengdu and Yangshuo, an overnight stay in a traditional Hakka Village, a cycle tour through Yangshuo city and countryside, a Chinese lunch in a local Yangshuo community, a Guangzhou city tour, a CEO-led walk through old town Shanghai, and free time in Shanghai, along with 'First Night Out,' 'Discover,' 'Local Living,' and 'Big Night Out' moments.

Yes, in Yangshuo, you can opt to visit the Impression Liu Sanjie Culture Show (298 CNY), take a Central Chinese Cooking Class, visit the Xianggongshan & Tea Farm, or join a Tai Chi Class (100 CNY).
  • Is there an important notice regarding peak travel seasons?
