The tour includes 5 nights in hotels, 1 night in a guesthouse, 1 night in lodges, and 4 nights of serviced camping. Hotel and guesthouse stays are in standard twin rooms with en suite or shared facilities. Camping involves tents with shared ablutions.
  • How many meals are included in the tour price?

The tour includes 10 breakfasts, 1 lunch, and 2 dinners. We provide a few meals to offer flexibility in dining choices, and our groups often eat together to enjoy a variety of dishes and company. Your CEO will handle meal planning for included meals, and we ask clients to help with preparation and washing up during camping.
  • What is the typical group size for this tour?

The maximum group size is 18 travellers, with an average group size of 14.
  • Is travel insurance required to participate in this tour?

Yes, travel insurance is compulsory. It must include a minimum of USD 200,000 for medical coverage, repatriation, and emergency rescue. Evidence of travel insurance must be presented to your CEO.
  • Is there an extra cost for solo travelers to have their own room?

We believe single travellers should not have to pay more, so our group trips are designed for shared accommodation and do not involve a single supplement. Single travellers joining group trips are paired in twin or multi-share accommodation with someone of the same sex for the duration of the trip, with exceptions on Days 2, 3, 6, and 7 where own rooms might be applicable if the 'My Own Room/Tent' option is booked.
  • What are some of the main highlights of the trip?

The main highlights include marveling at Fish River Canyon, climbing Dune 45, getting your adrenaline going with adventure activities in Swakopmund, and spotting incredible wildlife in Etosha National Park.
  • Who will be leading the tour, and what are their qualifications?

You will be accompanied by a Chief Experience Officer (CEO) and an expert driver. The CEO is the group manager and leader, providing information, suggestions for activities and dining. All leaders in southern Africa are registered and licensed tourism guides. Local guides are also utilized where specific knowledge enhances the experience.
  • What are some optional activities available during the tour?

Optional activities include an Etosha Open Vehicle Wildlife Safari Drive, sandboarding, a Living Desert Tour, Skeleton Coast Scenic Flight, and a Mondesa Township Tour in Swakopmund. • What currencies are used, and what payment methods are recommended?

The currency in South Africa is the South African Rand (ZAR) and in Namibia it is the Namibian Dollar (NAD), which is equivalent to the ZAR. US Dollars (notes newer than 2006), British Pounds, and Euros are the easiest foreign currencies to exchange. ATMs are available but can run out of cash, and credit cards are only widely accepted in major cities, often with a 5%-10% fee. It is best to bring a combination of foreign currency cash and debit/credit cards for cash advances, and avoid Travellers’ cheques.
  • Is tipping customary during the tour, and what are the suggested amounts?

Tipping is an expected, though not compulsory, component of your tour program and is an important source of income for those in the tourism industry. Suggested guidelines per person are: $5-8 USD per day for the CEO, $2-3 USD per day for local guides and safari guide/driver, and 10-15% of the bill for restaurant staff.
  • What are the health advisories or required vaccinations for this trip?

It is recommended to contact your family physician or local travel clinic at least one month before departure for the most up-to-date health information. Travellers should carry a basic first-aid kit. A valid Yellow Fever Certificate is compulsory if travelling to South Africa or Namibia from a Yellow Fever endemic country. Malaria is present in some regions, and preventative medication (prophylaxis) combined with insect repellent is recommended.
  • What kind of transportation is used on the tour?

For standard class trips in southern Africa, we use a private air-conditioned touring vehicle (local bus) with sliding windows. This provides a comfortable way to travel and offers flexibility for stops. Road conditions are generally good in South Africa but may deteriorate in Namibia, which is part of the adventure.
  • What does "Participative Camping" entail?

Participative camping is an essential part of your adventure where you are expected to help with tasks like setting up and packing away your tent, assisting with meal preparation, and cleaning up. All camping equipment, with the exception of your sleeping bag, pillow, and towel, is supplied.
  • Are there any specific safety considerations for personal belongings and general travel?

Always look after your personal items, avoid leaving valuables visible in cars or hotel rooms, and lock your hotel room door. It is recommended to use a neck wallet or money belt for important documents and cash. Drones are prohibited in national parks in Southern Africa. In Namibia, be alert for animals near roads, especially at dusk, and watch out for challenging road conditions. For water-based activities, always participate when accompanied by a guide(s).
  • What are the visa and entry requirements for Namibia and South Africa?

All countries require a valid passport with a minimum of 6 months validity. It is your responsibility to check the most up-to-date visa requirements with your local embassy or consulate. As of April 1st, 2025, Namibia will introduce a new mandatory 90-day visa, costing USD90 per person on arrival, and travelers are recommended to apply prior to travel to prevent delays.
