Camino de Santiago From Oviedo - 16 Days

Arrive in Oviedo, the capital of Asturias, and settle into your accommodation. With its well-preserved medieval heart, Oviedo welcomes you to the start of your Camino with charming streets and notable landmarks, including the Gothic Cathedral of El Salvador and the Holy Chamber.

After breakfast, you begin your Camino journey. This first stage introduces you to the challenging yet rewarding nature of the route. Tackle several climbs, including a steep one to Escampelo, then descend alongside the Nalon River through Penaflor before reaching Grado.25.2 km / approx. 6 hrs

Please note: You must leave your luggage in the lobby at each hotel or hostel by 8 AM. It will be transferred to your next stop, so you won’t need to carry it during the trek.

Today’s route feels more enjoyable after yesterday’s effort. You begin with a short but steep climb to Alto de Fresno, where you can visit a small sanctuary. From there, the terrain eases as you follow the Narcea River to Cornellana, then the Nonaya River, arriving in Salas by afternoon.22.1 km / approx. 5 hrs

Though shorter in distance, today’s stage brings uneven terrain as you ascend toward La Espina at nearly 700 metres. Once you cross Alto de la Espina, the path becomes less steep, taking you through peaceful villages such as La Pereda and El Pedregal before arriving in Tineo.19.8 km / approx. 5 hrs

One of the longest days so far, but also one of the most scenic. You pass through lush forests, peaceful valleys and striking mountain landscapes. The path climbs out of Tineo before descending toward Campiello, and from there you continue to Pola de Allande. 27 km / approx. 7 hrs

By now, you’re getting used to the rhythm of the trail. Today you take on the most demanding climb of the entire route—Puerto del Palo. At the summit, you’re rewarded with sweeping views of the Nison Valley. After conquering this challenge, you continue on to Berducedo. 17.5 km / approx. 5 hrs

What comes up must come down. Today’s highlight is the dramatic descent to the Salime Reservoir Dam. Though steep, it’s manageable. After crossing the Navia River, you enjoy a more relaxed walk to Grandas de Salime. 20.4 km / approx. 5 hrs

Your last day in Asturias brings a steady climb to Alto del Acebo, marking your entrance into Galicia. Here, yellow arrows begin to guide you. The path continues through quiet villages and countryside until you reach A Fonsagrada, your first stop in Galicia.25.2 km / approx. 6 hrs

Your first full day in Galicia does not disappoint. You follow rural tracks and woodland paths through beautiful scenery. A steady climb to Montouto leads into a long descent, followed by another climb up to A Lastra before arriving in O Cadavo. 24.3 km / approx. 5 hrs

The longest stage of your Camino awaits. You descend toward Castroverde, where you can visit a 14th-century fortress, and continue through many picturesque villages. Your efforts are rewarded as we arrive in Lugo, a historic city with Roman walls, thermal baths, and vibrant tapas culture. 29.5 km / approx. 7 hrs

Today you follow mostly flat terrain today, with some paved paths and quiet local roads. The biggest challenge is the distance, but the lack of elevation change helps you cover ground steadily. 26.5 km / approx. 7 hrs

You walk through a patchwork of rural landscapes, with gentle ups and downs. Melide marks the geographical heart of Galicia and where you meet the Camino Frances. For a shorter route, we recommend you follow the Via Romana.20 km / approx. 5 hrs

Cross into the province of A Coruna, passing through quaint towns like Boente and Castaneda. Arzua greets you with its famous local cheese and a welcoming atmosphere. 14.1 km / approx. 3 hrs

This calm and reflective stage gives you time to process your journey and prepare for the final leg into Santiago. You pass through rolling landscapes and quiet hamlets before stopping in O Pedrouzo. 19.3 km / approx. 5 hrs

Today is the day! Emotions run high as you make your final ascent. You pass Lavacolla and climb Monte do Gozo, where you catch your first glimpse of the cathedral. At last, you arrive in the iconic Plaza del Obradoiro and celebrate reaching Santiago de Compostela. 19.4 km / approx. 4 hrs
