Costa Rica Wildlife Holidays

There is no doubt that you're going to see wildlife on holiday in Costa Rica, the question is which animals?!

Costa Rica is of course very famous for being he home of Toucan's, the Howler Monkey and the gorgeous Sloth. You'll hear the Howler Monkey before you see them! There are many more species of monkey, maybe the most recognisable is the White Faced Capuchin Monkey, a small monkey which is all black apart from it's white face.

Sloths will most likely be high up in the trees but do keep an eye out for them!

There are a handful of dangerous animals in Costa Rica but you're not likely to see them although if you do, you're incredibly lucky especially so far as the Jaguar is concerned!

The coastal waters have been known to contain Bull Sharks but they're very rare and it is unlikely you're going to cross paths with one.

It's worth remembering that different area of Costa Rica have different weather patterns. For example the costs have different weather patterns tot he rainforest. We try to provide a general guide here. We'd also say don't be put off by' the 'wet' season. Rain often arrives in short bursts before the sun comes out again and prices can be much lower.

December and January are very popular times to visit, at this time migrant birds will arrive and humpback whales will pass by. However, it can be very busy.

March and April have historically been the US 'Spring Break' period. You can decide if this is for you or not!

The dry season runs from December to May / June and it's worth knowing that Loggerhead and leatherback turtles nesting season is ending. 

July and August are 'wet' but a great time to visit as the rivers are full and the wildlife is teeming all around!

November and December are typically wetter and turning dryer towards the end of December. 

IN reality, there isn't a bad time to visit:)
