It's incredible what Mother Nature creates! From underground caves to pink lakes, we have rounded up some of the most unusual wonders around the world:
1. Antelope Canyon, Arizona
Antelope Canyon is one of the most visited places in Arizona. You might have to breathe in as you squeeze through some gaps in the canyon but the sculpted walls are well worth exploring.
2. Grand Prismatic Spring, Wyoming
Found in Yellowstone National Park, and one of its most famous visitor attractions, the hot springs have created these bright colours by activating bacteria that line round the edges of the hot water.
3. Marble Caves, Chile
Travel by boat out to the Marble caves and see how the colours change depending on the water levels, and time of year. The patterns you’ll see all around you are created by the sunlight hitting the erosion of the caves.
4. Zhangye Danxia Landform, China
Millions of layers of sandstone have created the stunning rainbow mountains in China (there are also some in Peru). The erosion on the stone and minerals causing them to press together has created this incredible natural phenomenon.
5. Waitomo Glowworm Caves, New Zealand
Worms have never looked so pretty! The caves in Waitomo are covered with glow worms and you can cruise through the limestone caves, staring up at the luminescent creatures that are unique to this area of the world.
6. Giant’s Causeway, Northern Ireland
Much closer to home for some of us, Giant’s Causeway developed after an ancient volcano erupted on the coast. There are walks along the causeway to be explored and columns up to 12m high.
7. Darvaza Gas Crater, Turkmenistan
'The Doors to Hell’ - the Darvaza Gas Crater in Turkmenistan hols a natural gas field that was set alight in the 1970s by scientists to stop the spread of methane gas, and it has been burning ever since.
8. Lake Hillier, Australia
The colour of the lake doesn’t look natural - but it is! The probable cause is the saline lake combines with algae and created this crazy pink colour! It can be found off the south coast in Western Australia.
9. Ice Caves, Iceland
All Iceland’s glaciers are pretty impressive, and within Vatnajökull are the ice caves! Some are more easily reached than others but well worth visiting while you can as they are rapidly shrinking with the glaciers.
10. Bryce Canyon, Utah
The hoodoos are sandstone formations in the national park. Formed over millions of years by erosion in the bed of the lakes and rivers, these spires have a number of walking paths through them and are best seen at sun-up or sun-down.
