  • What meals are included in the tour price?

The tour includes 6 breakfasts, 5 lunches, and 4 dinners.
  • How large are the tour groups typically?

The maximum group size for this tour is 14 travelers, with an average group size of 10.
  • Who will be leading the tour?

The tour is accompanied by a Chief Experience Officer (CEO), certified safari guides/drivers, and local guides. The CEO provides information, suggestions, and recommendations, while local guides offer more specific knowledge.
  • What is the minimum age to join this trip?

You must be 18 to travel unaccompanied on this tour. For minors, the minimum age is 12, provided they are traveling with a guardian who is over 21 years old.
  • How will we be transported during the safari?

The safari portion of this trip is conducted in private, 7-seat 4x4 Land Cruiser vehicles, which feature sliding windows and large pop-up roofs designed for optimal wildlife viewing. If the group is large, two or more vehicles will be used, and the group will be split. While vehicles are regularly serviced, occasional breakdowns can occur due to long travel days and rough road conditions, but drivers are trained mechanics and issues are rectified quickly.
  • Are there any optional activities available on this tour?

Yes, optional activities include an afternoon safari drive in Lake Nakuru National Park, a Masai Mara Balloon Safari (available for 480 USD per person), and a morning Masai Mara Wildlife Safari Drive.
  • What is the policy for solo travelers regarding accommodation?

Solo travelers on group trips are paired in twin or multi-share accommodation with someone of the same sex without an additional single supplement. If you have booked the 'My Own Room' option, you will receive your own single room for all night stops.
  • Is travel insurance required for this trip?

Yes, travel insurance is compulsory for all participants. You must have a policy that covers medical expenses, including emergency evacuation and repatriation, with a minimum coverage of USD 200,000. It is also strongly recommended to include coverage for personal liability, cancellation, curtailment, and loss of luggage and personal effects. If using credit card insurance, proof of purchase with a credit card in your name is required.
  • What are the visa and entry requirements for Kenya?

All travelers need a valid passport with a minimum of 6 months validity. As of January 1st, 2024, the Kenyan government requires all nationalities to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) for entry, replacing the previous visitor visa requirement. It is also compulsory to show a valid Yellow Fever Certificate if you are traveling from a Yellow Fever endemic country or have transited for more than 12 hours through an airport in an endemic country; please check country-specific regulations and consult your local health expert.
  • What currency should I use, and what about credit cards?

The local currency in Kenya is the Kenyan Shilling (KES/KSH). The easiest foreign currency to exchange is USD, but notes older than 2006 are not accepted. It is advisable to bring foreign currency (USD, Euro, or British Pound) in cash, as it can be expensive or difficult to obtain locally, especially in rural areas. USD cash is specifically required for purchasing visas at borders. Traveler’s cheques are not recommended. Visa/Plus debit cards are generally accepted at ATMs, but Mastercard/Cirrus cards may be less widely supported. Credit cards can be used in major cities only and often incur a 5-10% fee. Due to potential power outages or ATMs running out of cash, a combination of foreign currency cash and debit/credit cards for cash advances is best. You should also have access to at least an additional USD 200 (or equivalent) as an emergency fund.
  • Are there any health considerations I should be aware of?

We recommend you contact your family physician or local travel clinic at least one month before departure for the most up-to-date health information and required inoculations. Travelers should carry a basic first-aid kit and hand sanitizers. It is compulsory to show a valid Yellow Fever Certificate if you are traveling to Kenya from a Yellow Fever endemic country. Malaria is present in some regions, and the risk can increase during rainy seasons; therefore, speaking to your doctor about preventative medication (prophylaxis) and using insect repellent is recommended.
  • What safety precautions should I take, especially in Nairobi?

In Nairobi, always leave your passport (carry a photocopy instead), traveler's cheques, flight tickets, and unused money in your hotel room's safe deposit. Never leave bags unattended and avoid flaunting jewelry or cameras. Do not wander the city at night; use taxis organized by your hotel after sundown. Be cautious of strangers on the street offering safaris or showing undue interest. It is against the law to take photos of police stations, airports, bus stations, immigration/border crossings, military personnel, or any government building, and may result in confiscation of your film and camera. Generally, dress and drink moderately, be aware of your surroundings, and exercise caution.
  • Can I do laundry during the trip?

Laundry facilities are offered by some of our hotels for a charge. There will also be times when you may want to or have to do your own laundry, so we suggest bringing non-polluting/biodegradable soap.
  • What is Planeterra, and how does this tour contribute to it?

Planeterra International Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to turning travel into impact by helping local communities earn an income from tourism. This tour includes a 'G for Good Moment' at Amani Ya Juu in Nairobi, a G Adventures-supported community initiative where women support their families by creating unique handicrafts. As G Adventures covers all of Planeterra’s operating costs, 100% of your donation will directly support these projects.
