Summary
Discover Turkey and Northern Cyprus on this 14-day journey starting and ending in Istanbul. Explore Istanbul’s Old City before travelling to Gallipoli, Troy, Ephesus, Pamukkale and Cappadocia, with highlights including UNESCO sites, ancient ruins, calcium terraces, underground cities and a boutique cave hotel stay. Then fly to Northern Cyprus for a relaxing Mediterranean finale in Girne, with guided visits to Nicosia, Famagusta, Varosha and the ruins of Salamis. Blending history, scenery, culture and seaside downtime, this tour offers a varied and memorable look at two fascinating destinations.
Itinerary
Day 1
Arrive in Istanbul
Welcome to Istanbul. On arrival, we transfer to the hotel. The rest of the day is free for you to explore at your own pace.
Day 2
Istanbul City Tour
After breakfast, we explore the historic heart of Istanbul. Highlights include the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace with Hagia Irene and the Harem, and the Hippodrome. In the afternoon, you may choose to join an optional Bosphorus cruise between Europe and Asia.
Day 3
Visit Gallipoli Battlefields & Transfer to Canakkale
We travel to Gallipoli, one of Turkey’s most moving historical sites. We visit ANZAC Cove, Lone Pine, Chunuk Bair, The Nek, Johnston’s Jolly, and preserved trenches and tunnels.
Day 4
Explore Troy and Behramkale & Travel to Kusadasi
We visit the ancient city of Troy and its modern museum. Continuing to Behramkale - a traditional village with stone houses - we have time to explore before travelling south to Kusadasi.
Day 5
Uncover Ephesus
Today we explore Ephesus, one of the best-preserved ancient cities in the Mediterranean, along with the Temple of Artemis. We also visit the Ephesus Archaeology Museum. Later, we learn about traditional carpet weaving in a local village.
Day 6
Admire Travertine Terraces & Tour Hierapolis
We travel to Pamukkale, known for its white travertine terraces. We also explore the ancient city of Hierapolis and have the opportunity to bathe in its thermal waters, once used in Roman times.
Day 7
Visit Konya En Route to Cappadocia
Following part of the historic Silk Road, we visit the Sultanhani Caravansary and the Mevlana Museum in Konya. We then continue to Cappadocia. An optional folklore evening is available.
Day 8
Explore Cappadocia
We explore Cappadocia’s unique landscape, including the Goreme Open Air Museum, fairy chimneys and an underground city.
Day 9
Journey into Cyprus
We transfer to the airport for our flight to Northern Cyprus. On arrival, we transfer to our hotel in Girne. The remainder of the day is free.
Day 10
Experience Nicosia
We visit St John’s Cathedral, the Venetian Walls, Freedom Monument and Famagusta Gate in Nicosia. We continue to the Cyprus Museum and stroll along Ledra Street and Eleftheria Square. Later, we visit Lefkara village, known for its lace and silverwork, and enjoy a local sweet tasting.
Day 11
Enjoy a Famagusta Tour
We explore Varosha, the abandoned resort area, before visiting Lala Mustafa Pasha Mosque - once a Gothic cathedral. We continue to Othello Castle and the ancient city of Salamis. The day ends at St Barnabas Monastery.
Day 12
Girne at Leisure
Today is free for you to relax or explore at your own pace.
Day 13
Return to Istanbul
We transfer to the airport for our flight back to Istanbul. On arrival, we transfer to the hotel for our final night.
Day 14
Goodbye Istanbul
After breakfast, we transfer to the airport for your onward flight. Our tour concludes.
