Tasmania's Freycinet Experience Walk - 4 Days

Welcome to Tasmania! Your adventure begins in Hobart, or Nipaluna in the language of the Muwinina and Palawa peoples, who are the Traditional Custodians of the land on which Hobart is now located. You’ll meet your trip leader and fellow travellers at 8 am, then transfer to Coles Bay on the Freycinet Peninsula. Board a boat for a cruise down the peninsula to Schouten Island. This island forms the southernmost point of Freycinet National Park, its coastline scattered with rocky bays and white-sand beaches. Keep an eye out for dolphins and seabirds like the Australasian gannet as you sail. Have a picnic lunch and maybe go for a swim, or alternatively go on a short walk up Bear Hill for panoramic views of the peninsula. Return to Coles Bay, then transfer to your lodge at Friendly Beaches for dinner this evening.

Head out on another boat trip down the peninsula this morning. You’ll have a choice between two walks today. The first walk starts at Bryan’s Beach, taking you through sclerophyll forests and along beaches to reach Wineglass Bay. This walk is a great chance to encounter some local birdlife – you might see fairy terns, white-bellied sea eagles or cormorants. Or you could embark on a more challenging walk from Cook’s Beach to the top of Mt Graham at 579 m above sea level. From here, there are excellent views of the Hazards – a mountain range with a distinctive dusty-pink hue. You’ll then descend to Wineglass Bay via the Quartzite Ridge. Both groups will meet up at Wineglass Bay this afternoon for some time to swim in the clear waters and take in the picturesque surroundings. Climb to Wineglass Bay Lookout for some great views, then descend and transfer back to your lodge.

After breakfast, transfer to Bluestone Bay to begin today’s walk. See the towering cliff face of White Water Wall and explore the bay before climbing to the clifftop. Then, continue along an ancient track through sacred bushland once followed by the Toorernomairremener people of the Oyster Bay nation. As you walk, you’ll see a variety of native plants like xanthorrhoea (grass trees). Walk along the Friendly Beaches, maybe going for a refreshing dip in the clear waters, then arrive back at your lodge for some afternoon tea. Spend an evening relaxing at the lodge.

This morning, there’s the option to go on a walk along the ridgeline of Mt Mary, then down to Saltwater Lagoon where you can see black swans and pelicans nesting. Later this morning, tuck into some brunch, then go on one last walk along the Friendly Beaches to Isaac’s Point, soaking up your final glimpses of the unforgettable scenery of the Freycinet Peninsula. You’ll then be transferred back to Hobart, arriving in the early evening.
