Summary

Discover Morocco’s mesmerising south on this seven-day journey starting and ending in Marrakech. After exploring the imperial highlights of the “Ochre City” – from the Koutoubia and Bahia Palace to the buzzing Jemaa El-Fna – you’ll cross the dramatic Tizi N’tichka Pass into the Atlas Mountains. Visit the UNESCO-listed Ait Benhaddou, travel the famed Road of a Thousand Kasbahs, and soak up pre-Saharan landscapes en route to Zagora and Erfoud. With optional desert excursions to the dunes of Merzouga, scenic valleys like Dades and Skoura, and atmospheric kasbah towns, this tour blends culture, history and striking desert scenery in one unforgettable loop.

Itinerary

  • Day 1

    Welcome to Marrakech

    On arrival at Marrakech International Airport, please note that airport transfers are not included today. You will make your own way to the hotel and check in.

    In the evening, we enjoy dinner at the hotel. The remainder of the night is at leisure.

  • Day 2

    Discover Marrakech

    Today we explore Marrakech, the second oldest of Morocco’s Imperial cities, often called the Ochre City for the colour of its walls. Our sightseeing includes the Menara Gardens, with their olive groves and Atlas Mountain backdrop, the 19th-century Bahia Palace, the Koutoubia Mosque - Marrakech’s landmark minaret - and the Dar Si Said Museum.

    After lunch at the hotel, we continue into the lively souks and handicraft quarters before visiting Jemaa El-Fna Square. This UNESCO-recognised cultural space is famed for its ever-changing street performers, storytellers and market stalls.

    Optional: Dinner with Fantasia Show at Chez Ali restaurant In the evening, you may choose to attend a traditional dinner and Fantasia show at Chez Ali. Set in Berber-style tents, the experience includes Moroccan cuisine accompanied by folk music, acrobats, horsemen, belly dancers and a fantasia display.

  • Day 3

    Across the Atlas to Boumalne

    Marrakech - Ouarzazate - Zagora. After breakfast, we depart for Ait Benhaddou via the spectacular Tizi N’tichka Pass at 2,260 metres in the High Atlas Mountains. We visit the famous kasbah of Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its earthen architecture and as a filming location for productions such as Lawrence of Arabia, Gladiator and Game of Thrones.

    We continue through Ouarzazate and Kalaa Mgouna before arriving in Boumalne. Dinner is served at the hotel.

  • Day 4

    Desert Landscapes to Erfoud

    Zagora - Nkob - Erfoud. We travel towards Erfoud, stopping at Tamgroute, known for its traditional green-glazed pottery. Our journey continues through the pre-Saharan landscapes of Tansikht, N’kob, Tazzarine and Alnif, with time available for you to have lunch in Alnif if you wish.

    In the afternoon, we proceed to Erfoud via Rissani, birthplace of the Alaouite Dynasty, Morocco’s current royal family. Dinner is included at the hotel.

    Optional: 4x4 excursion to the dunes of Merzouga to see the sunset You may choose to join a 4x4 excursion to the Erg Chebbi dunes on the edge of the Sahara Desert. These vast dunes near Merzouga are known for their changing colours at sunset and classic Saharan scenery.

  • Day 5

    Valleys and Kasbahs to Ouarzazate

    Erfoud - Tinghir - Ouarzazate. Today we travel towards Ouarzazate, passing the oasis of Tinjdad and the dramatic landscapes of the Dades Valley. There is free time for you to have lunch in Tinghir if you wish.

    In the afternoon, we continue along the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs, travelling through Kalaat M’Gouna and the Skoura Valley, known for its palm groves and fortified kasbahs. On arrival in Ouarzazate, we enjoy a brief orientation tour before dinner at the hotel.

  • Day 6

    Return to Marrakech

    Ouarzazate - Marrekech. We return to Marrakech today, once again crossing the Tizi N’tichka Pass through the High Atlas Mountains. On arrival, we check in at the hotel and enjoy dinner together.

  • Day 7

    Farewell Marrakech

    After breakfast, our tour comes to an end. Please note that airport transfers are not included today. You will make your own way to Marrakech International Airport for your onward flight.
