Sandakan Orangutan Adventure - 4 Days

Sandakan - Sepilok - Sandakan. Upon arrival at Sandakan Airport, you will be transferred to Sepilok Jungle Resort, set within tropical rainforest and located just a 5-minute walk from the Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre.

We visit the rehabilitation centre to watch one of nature’s most endangered species, the orangutan, or “man of the jungle” in the local language, as they move through the trees towards the feeding platform. We then continue to the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre to see the world’s smallest bear species.

After lunch, we head to the Rainforest Discovery Centre within the Kabili-Sepilok Forest Reserve. The Exhibition Centre and Plant Discovery Centre provide insight into the area’s rich biodiversity and rainforest environment. We then walk across the suspension bridge before continuing to Sandakan’s only canopy walk, standing 28 metres above the forest floor.

After, we will enjoy dinner before settling into our accommodation.

Sandakan - Bilit, Kinabatangan River. Today, we depart Sepilok and travel overland to Bilit, arriving in time for lunch. In the afternoon, we embark on a river cruise along the Kinabatangan River, one of Borneo’s best wildlife spotting areas. The river is home to an incredible variety of wildlife, including 10 species of primates, 8 species of hornbills, estuarine crocodiles, Asian elephants, mangrove snakes, vipers, and many other fascinating species.

Later, you will have the choice of joining an optional night walk, taking part in a tree planting activity, or trying batik painting.

This morning, we wake to the calls of gibbons and birds before setting out on an early river cruise along the Kinabatangan River. We then join a guided jungle walk to discover the area’s lush flora and local fauna while listening to the many sounds of the rainforest.

We trek back to our accommodation for lunch before heading out on another river cruise later in the day for more wildlife spotting opportunities.

After dinner, you can choose to join an optional night walk.

Bilit, Kinabatangan River - Sandakan. After our final breakfast, we return to Sandakan and enjoy lunch en route before heading out on a sightseeing tour of the city. We visit the Sandakan War Memorial Park, a Buddhist Temple, St. Michael’s Church, and the Central Market.

Later, you will be transferred to the airport for your onward journey.
