Itinerary

  • Day 1

    Arrival in Oslo

Once you have arrived in Oslo, you make your own way from the airport to our accommodation for the night.

Norway is known for having some of the most beautiful fjords on Earth, and depending on your arrival time, you may have a chance to start exploring its capital today. A walk along Karl Johan's Street, known for its royal connections, brings you past a variety of shops, bars and cafes.

Later, you meet your Tour Leader at the reception of our accommodation for an introductory meeting about the days ahead. br> Please note: Arrival transfers are available; please contact us to book an arrival transfer.

  • Day 2

    Discovering Oslo

Today, we explore Oslo, Norway's capital, a city framed by forests and the beautiful Oslofjord. Our guide leads a three-hour tour by bus, taking in the City Hall, the Royal Palace and the New Opera House, along with districts lined with traditional wooden houses.

The tour continues on foot through Frogner Park, home to 212 sculptures by Gustav Vigeland, before visiting the Akershus Fortress, one of the city's national symbols. The rest of the day is free to spend as you choose - perhaps relaxing beside the Oslofjord or exploring more of the city's museums - with lunch and dinner left for personal arrangements.

  • Day 3

    Onward by Rail to Flam

Oslo - Myrdal - Flam. This morning, we board the train heading west towards the fjords - regarded as one of the most beautiful rail journeys in the world. The route passes through open countryside, mountains and the high plateau of Hardangervidda before arriving in Myrdal.

Here, we change onto the famous Flamsbana, a small train renowned for its impressive difference in altitude, winding between mountains and ice-blue torrents on its way down to Flam, in the hollow of the fjord - offering impressive views along the way.

Arriving in Flam, on the shores of the Sognefjord, we check in to our accommodation in the heart of the fjords, with dinner included this evening. Those wanting to explore further can head to the Aegir Micro-Brewery, set in a warm atmosphere inspired by Viking architecture and recognised as one of the country's best, having won several international awards.

  • Day 4

    Fjord Cruise to Bergen

Flam - Bergen. After breakfast, we set off on a beautiful cruise along the famous Sognefjord, sailing from Flam towards the fjord's mouth. Along the way, look out for the entrances to its various branches, including the Naeroyfjord, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as well as the many villages dotted along the shoreline.

The final stretch carries us through the Bergen archipelago before arriving in Bergen, the beautiful capital of the fjords, whose historic centre is itself a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site.

  • Day 5

    Exploring Bergen

This morning, our guide leads a walking tour of Bergen, taking in the harbour and its fish market, the historic Hanseatic City - once home to the merchants' league of northern Germany - and the colourful, well-preserved wooden houses of Bryggen. We then pass through the city centre, where the pedestrian streets are lined with shops.

The afternoon is free to spend as you wish. You might stroll along the fish market, wander the alleys among the wooden houses, or take the funicular to the top of Mount Floien for views over Bergen, known as the city of seven hills.

  • Day 6

    Coastal Cruise to Stavanger

Bergen - Stavanger. Today, we board a coastal cruise south, spending five and a half hours at sea. Be sure to step out on deck to admire the coastline and its scattering of islets as we sail towards Stavanger.

On arrival, we transfer to our accommodation in Stavanger, the oil city, which has plenty of charm. The evening is free for you to arrange dinner as you wish.

  • Day 7

    Stavanger, Lysefjord & Preikestolen

In the morning, we explore Stavanger's charming old town on foot, passing white wooden houses decorated with flowers and detouring to Ovre Holmegate, a small, colourful street of houses. Those interested in the city's oil heritage may also wish to visit a museum dedicated to the industry, exploring how oil is formed, found, extracted and became a commodity.

In the afternoon, we board a three-hour cruise on the Lysefjord, taking in the raw, beautiful scenery and views of the famous Preikestolen rock, before returning to Stavanger.

  • Day 8

    Departure from Stavanger

After breakfast, the tour comes to an end. Depending on your departure time, you may have some time left to enjoy the city before making your own way to the airport.
