Itinerary

  • Day 1

    Oslo

Hei! Welcome to Norway. Your adventure begins in Oslo – Norway's cultural capital. When you arrive at the airport, you’ll be met by a locla representitive and transferred to your accommodation for your welcome meeting at 5 pm. Meet your local leader and fellow travellers, then head out for a welcome dinner with the other families in your group. If you arrive early, you might like to grab a snack at Maschmanns Food Market, stretch your legs along Karl Johans Gate or admire the work of glass blowers at Hadeland Glassverk.

  • Day 2

    Geilo

This morning, take a train from Oslo to Geilo. As the gateway to both Hardangervidda National Park and Hallingskarvet National Park – two of Norway's most renowned mountain areas – this beautiful mountain village is a favourite destination for local hikers. If you like, hit the trails for a steady hike up to expansive views of Geilo, Hallingskarvet and Hardangervidda. When you get to Geilo, have some free time for lunch, then join your leader for a family-friendly afternoon hike up to expansive viewpoints over Hallingskarvet and Hardangervidda’s dramatic mountains.

  • Day 3

    Geilo

Spend the day today exploring the postcard-perfect mountain town of Geilo on a bike, pedalling at your own pace. Start with a guided, leader-led cycle in the morning to get your bearings, then later, bike along scenic trails past lakes, rolling valleys and traditional Norwegian cottages, stopping whenever something catches your eye – maybe pause for a picnic beside the water. After your ride, return to the hotel where you might like to spend some time swimming in the pool or relaxing with a good book. If you're still seeking adventure, why not take another hike in this rugged wonderland, check out the zip line, tackle the nearby climbing park, or play frisbee golf.

  • Day 4

    Hardangerfjord

Today, you'll trade bike wheels for train tracks on a ride from Geilo to Voss. When you arrive, continue to Eidfjord to visit a Viking village. Check out seven longhouses from the Roman and Migration periods, including the oldest house so far excavated in Norway – as old as Stonehenge! Learn about the Hardanger region's amazing Iron Age and Viking Age history and see authentic clothes, cooking tools, jewellery, music instruments and weapons. Then, explore one of the first stone churches in Norway, built in 1309, and have a closer look at 2 huge burial mounds – there are 475 of them in Eidfjord! After, continue to Rosendal – a beautiful village on the banks of the fjord, surrounded by mountains, where you'll spend the night.

  • Day 5

    Hardangerfjord

Today will be a highlight of the trip! Strap on crampons for the iconic Blue Ice Hike on the Juklavass Glacier, an ice arm or branch of Norway's third-largest glacier, the massive Folgefonna Glacier. Juklavass Glacier consists of both calm, flat ice and more challenging crevasse areas. Start with some safety instruction and time to get used to your glacier equipment, then set out on the ice. As you hike, take in the panoramic views of the North Sea and the Rosendal Alps. Your glacier guide will fill you in on the area’s culture and geography, too. Later, return to your hotel, where you’ll have some time to rest before a farewell dinner with your group.

  • Day 6

    Bergen

Depart early this morning to take a scenic ferry ride through the fjords towards Bergen city centre. When you arrive at the Strandkaiterminalen ferry terminal, your adventure comes to an end. There are quick and easy connections to the airport if you’re flying out today or, if you have more time, you might like to explore the town. Maybe take a walk through the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Bryggen Old Town or pop into one of the excellent art museums. If you'd like to stay longer and need help booking additional accommodation, just speak to your booking agent ahead of time.
