• What type of accommodation can I expect on this safari?

  The tour primarily features participation camping for 8 nights, a permanent tented camp for 1 night, bush camping for 1 night, and multi-share accommodation in backpacker guesthouses (up to 10 people) for 2 nights and a hostel (up to 4 people) for 1 night.

• What are the camping conditions like, and do I need to bring my own camping gear?

  Camping provides an adventurous way to experience the wilderness. Campsites generally have good facilities, though some can be basic, with flush toilets and showers (sometimes outdoors). Warm water is usually available but not guaranteed. All camping equipment, except your sleeping bag and pillow, is supplied, including 2-person dome tents and mattresses.

• Can I request a private room on the tour?

  Group trips are designed for shared accommodation, and solo travelers are paired with someone of the same sex. Private room requests cannot be taken for multi-share accommodations. An exception is made for a parent/guardian traveling with a minor of a different gender, who will be accommodated together in a private room.

• How many meals are included during the tour?

  The tour includes 12 breakfasts, 11 lunches, and 9 dinners.

• What kind of transportation is used for the safari?

  You will travel in a custom-built 24-seat Overland Adventure Vehicle (OAV) called the 'Lando.' This vehicle offers great height for wildlife viewing, reclining seats, storage, a mobile kitchen, a 250L tank of drinking water, air-conditioning, and USB charging ports at each seat. Please note, Landos do not have on-board bathrooms.

• What are the road conditions like during the tour?

  Road conditions can vary from new to very poor, and some drives may be long and bumpy. Despite this, most clients find the diverse African landscape, culture, and wildlife make it a worthwhile experience.

• Who will lead our tour, and what are their roles?

  The tour will be led by two Chief Experience Officers (CEOs) who act as the group manager, leader, cook, and driver. They provide information, suggestions, and manage logistics. Local guides are also used for specific activities to enhance your experience.

• What is the maximum group size for this tour?

  The maximum group size for our Overland Adventure Vehicle (OAV) safaris is 22 people per vehicle.

• Is participation required from tour members?

  Yes, participation is an essential part of the safari experience. The group is typically divided into smaller teams for daily tasks like kitchen duty, setting up tables and chairs, and cleaning the vehicle. While CEOs handle meal preparation, clients are asked to help with washing up.

• What health advice should I seek before traveling?

  We recommend contacting your family physician or local travel clinic at least one month before departure for up-to-date health information and recommended inoculations. Carrying a basic first-aid kit and hand sanitizers is also advised. Please inform your tour leader of any medical conditions.

• Are there any specific vaccination requirements?

  A valid Yellow Fever Certificate is compulsory if you are traveling to South Africa (and other listed countries) from a Yellow Fever endemic country or have transited through an endemic country's airport for more than 12 hours. Please check country-specific regulations before your departure.

• Is malaria a risk on this tour?

  Malaria is present in some regions of Africa, and the risk can increase during rainy seasons. It is recommended to speak to your doctor about preventative medication (prophylaxis) and to use insect repellent.

• What should I do if my luggage is delayed or lost upon arrival?

  In the event of delayed or lost luggage, which can occasionally happen, keep all important documents and valuables with you. Airlines are responsible for forwarding luggage, and our local office can assist with delivery arrangements if provided with the airline's emergency number. It is recommended to purchase essential items locally if needed and keep all receipts for insurance claims.

• What is the local currency, and what payment methods are recommended?

  The primary currencies are South African Rand (ZAR) and Namibian Dollar (NAD), which is equivalent to ZAR. USD is the easiest foreign currency to exchange and is required in cash for any border visas. It is advisable to bring a combination of foreign currency (USD, Euro, Pound) and debit/credit cards. Visa/Plus cards are most widely accepted, while Mastercard/Cirrus might be harder to use at ATMs. Credit cards have limited acceptance in major cities and may incur a 5-10% fee. Avoid Travellers’ cheques.

• Is an emergency fund recommended?

  Yes, it is recommended to have access to at least an additional USD $200 (or equivalent) as an emergency fund for unforeseen circumstances outside of our control.

• What major attractions and activities are included in the tour?

  The tour includes visits to Penduka Village Restaurant & Shop, !Khwa ttu San Culture and Education Centre, Waterberg Plateau, Etosha National Park (entrance and wildlife safari drives), Sossusvlei Dunes, Fish River Canyon, and Spitzkoppe. All transport between these destinations and included activities is covered.

• Are there optional activities available, and what are some examples?

  Yes, there are many optional activities available at an additional cost. Examples include night and day wildlife safaris in Etosha National Park, skydiving and sandboarding in Swakopmund, desert walks in Namib and Sossusvlei, paddling on the Orange River, wine tasting in Cederberg, and various tours and activities in Cape Town like the Table Mountain Cable Car or a Wine Tour.

• Can I use a drone during the tour?

  No, the use of drones in national parks in Southern Africa is prohibited.
