Summary
Discover Morocco’s vibrant south on this eight-day adventure starting and ending in Marrakech. From exploring the “Pearl of the South” and its lively Jemaa el-Fna Square to crossing the dramatic Tichka Pass, you’ll journey through ever-changing landscapes. Travel by 4x4 to Ouarzazate, the Dades Valley and Todra Gorge, before reaching the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi for a magical night in a desert bivouac. Continue via Zagora and the lush Draa Valley, visiting the iconic kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou along the way. Blending culture, desert scenery and mountain views, this tour showcases Morocco at its most captivating.
Itinerary
Day 1
Arrive in Marrakech
You will be transferred from the airport to the hotel. The remainder of the day is at leisure to relax or begin exploring at your own pace. Dinner is included depending on your arrival time.
Day 2
Explore Marrakech
After breakfast, we explore Marrakech, known as the "Pearl of the South". Our guided tour takes us to the Bahia Palace, a masterpiece of Moroccan architecture, the Menara Gardens with their olive groves and pavilion, as well as the Koutoubia Mosque, the city’s landmark with its striking minaret visible across Marrakech. We end in Jemaa el-Fna Square, the vibrant heart of the medina, where you have free time to wander through the souks or simply soak up the atmosphere.
Day 3
Ouarzazte at Leisure & Transfer to Dades Valley
Marrakech - Ouarzazate - Boumalne de Dades (4x4). We travel by 4x4 across the High Atlas Mountains, crossing the Tichka Pass at 2,260 metres above sea level, with sweeping views along the way. On arrival in Ouarzazate, often referred to as the gateway to the Sahara, there is free time to explore. We then continue to the Dades Valley, where you can visit the impressive Dades Gorges, known for their dramatic rock formations.
Day 4
Visit Todra Gorges & Explore Erg Chebbi
Boumalne de Dades - Todra - Merzouga (4x4). We drive to the Todra Gorges, where sheer limestone cliffs rise high above the valley floor. We continue towards Merzouga and the vast dunes of Erg Chebbi. The afternoon is dedicated to exploring this remarkable sea of sand. Weather permitting, we watch the sunset over the dunes, a truly memorable experience, which is topped with a overnight stay in a nomadic bivouac camp in the desert.
Day 5
4x4 to Zagora
Merzouga - Zagora (4x4). We depart for Zagora, travelling through Rissani, Alnif and Tazzarine. Along the way, we take in ever-changing desert landscapes, from the red sands of Erg Chebbi to the wide, stony hamadas of southern Morocco. Zagora, long associated with historic trans-Saharan trade routes, is known as the "Gate of the Desert".
Day 6
Free time in Zagora & Transfer to Ouarzazate
Zagora - Ouarzazate (4x4). After breakfast, there is free time in Zagora before we set off towards Ouarzazate. Our route follows the Draa Valley, lined with extensive palm groves and traditional kasbahs that reflect the region’s rich heritage.
Day 7
Visit Ait Ben Haddou & Return to Marrakech
Ouarzazate - Ait Ben Haddou - Marrakech (4x4). After breakfast, we visit Ait Ben Haddou, a fortified kasbah and UNESCO World Heritage Site, renowned for its earthen architecture and film appearances. We continue to Telouet along a scenic mountain road, before descending once again through the Tichka Pass at 2,260 metres above sea level en route to Marrakech.
Day 8
Goodbye Marrakech
After breakfast, you will be transferred to the airport, marking the end of an incredible 4x4 adventure through Morocco.
