Summary
Travel from Los Angeles to San Francisco on this seven-day journey through California and Nevada. After a relaxed arrival in LA, head across the Mojave Desert to the bright lights of Las Vegas before swapping neon for the dramatic landscapes of Death Valley. Continue into the Sierra Nevada, with mountain scenery around Mammoth Lakes, then explore the natural wonders of Yosemite National Park, including El Capitan, Half Dome and its famous waterfalls. The tour ends with two nights in San Francisco, giving you time for sightseeing, waterfront exploring or an optional Napa Valley wine tour.
Itinerary
Day 1
Arrival in Los Angeles
Arrive in Los Angeles and make your own way to the hotel. The evening is at leisure. Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2
Los Angeles to Las Vegas via Mojave Desert
Los Angeles - Mojave Desert - Las Vegas. Depart Los Angeles and travel across the Mojave Desert towards Las Vegas. Known as the Entertainment Capital of the World, the city is famous for its casinos, live shows and bright lights. The evening is free to enjoy Las Vegas at your own pace.
Day 3
Las Vegas to Mammoth Lakes via Death Valley
Las Vegas - Death Valley - Mammoth Lakes. After the glamour of Las Vegas, we enter the stark and dramatic landscapes of Death Valley. We stop at Zabriskie Point and Furnace Creek Visitor Center before crossing the valley and climbing into the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Continue to Mammoth Lakes, an alpine resort town that first grew during the 19th-century gold rush and is now known for its mountain scenery and ski terrain. If Tioga Pass is closed, the routing will operate via Fresno.
Day 4
Mammoth Lakes or Fresno to Modesto via Yosemite
Mamoth Lakes - Fresno - Yosemite National Park - Modesto. Today we travel via Tioga Pass into Yosemite National Park, one of America’s great natural landmarks. In Yosemite Valley, we see highlights including El Capitan, Half Dome, Bridalveil Fall and Yosemite Falls, all shaped by ancient glacial activity. We continue to Modesto for the night. Routing is subject to Tioga Pass conditions.
Day 5
Modesto to San Francisco
Modesto - San Francisco. Depart early for San Francisco, one of America’s most distinctive and much-loved cities.On arrival, we enjoy a comprehensive sightseeing tour before continuing to the hotel. This evening, you may choose to join an optional City by Night tour.
Day 6
San Francisco at Leisure
Enjoy a day at leisure in San Francisco. You might ride a cable car to Fisherman’s Wharf, sample local seafood, sourdough bread or Ghirardelli chocolate, or see the sea lions near the marina.Across the bay lies Alcatraz Island, the former prison once held infamous inmates including Al Capone and George “Machine Gun” Kelly. You may also visit Union Square for shopping, or join an optional wine tasting tour to Napa Valley, known for its wineries and rolling scenery.
Day 7
Departure from San Francisco
Your tour ends after check-out from the hotel. Assistance with onward travel can be arranged if required.
