Summary

Explore the classical heart of Greece on this 5-day tour from Athens to Athens. Stop at the Corinth Canal before reaching Epidaurus, home to an ancient theatre famed for its acoustics. The route continues through the plain of Argos to Mycenae, where the Tomb of Agamemnon and its archaeological site await, then on to Olympia, birthplace of the Olympic Games. From here, the road crosses the Corinthian Bay to Delphi, once considered the navel of the world, passing through the mountain village of Arachova. The tour ends with a visit to the Meteora Monasteries above Kalambaka, before returning to Athens.

Itinerary

  • Day 1

    Corinth Canal and Epidaurus

    We set off along the coastal road to the Corinth Canal, pausing briefly to admire this impressive engineering feat. Continuing on, we visit the ancient theatre of Epidaurus, renowned worldwide for its exceptional acoustics.Afterwards, we drive to Nafplion, where you have a free afternoon to explore at your leisure. You might enjoy a stroll through the charming old town or visit the new Nafplion gallery, which features paintings dedicated to the Greek Revolution of 1821. We gather again for dinner and spend the night in Nafplion.

  • Day 2

    Mycenae and the Journey to Olympia

    After breakfast, we depart around 12:30 and travel through the Argos plain to Mycenae. Here, we explore the archaeological site, including the Tomb of Agamemnon. In the afternoon, there is an optional stop for souvenirs before we continue to Olympia, the birthplace of the Olympic Games, passing through Tripolis and Megalopolis with a brief stop. We have dinner and stay overnight in Olympia.

  • Day 3

    Ancient Olympia to Delphi

    After breakfast, we explore the archaeological site of Olympia, including the Temple of Zeus, the Temple of Hera, the altar of the Olympic flame, the stadium, and the archaeological museum. Later, we depart via Patras for Rion, where we cross the Corinthian Gulf on the new bridge to Antirion. We continue along the coastal road past Nafpaktos to Delphi, once regarded as the navel of the ancient world. In the afternoon, you can visit the charming mountain village of Arachova. We arrive in Delphi in the evening for dinner and overnight stay.

  • Day 4

    Delphi and the Road to Kalambaka

    After breakfast, we visit the Archaeological Site and Museum of Delphi, exploring the heart of this ancient sanctuary. We then travel to Kalambaka, stopping briefly in Lamia along the way. Upon arrival, enjoy dinner and overnight in Kalambaka, a small town nestled beneath the striking grey cliffs topped by the Meteora monasteries, where there will be a short stop for souvenirs.

  • Day 5

    Meteora and the Return to Athens

    After breakfast, we set off for Meteora to explore the remarkable Byzantine monasteries perched atop towering rock formations. Following the visit, we return to Athens, passing the historic monument of Leonidas at Thermopylae, a site commemorating the famous Spartan king.
