Loch Ness, Skye & Jacobite Steam Train - 4 Days

Departing from the historic heart of Edinburgh, we begin our journey north, venturing into the stunning landscapes of Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park. Known for its tranquil lochs, rolling hills and dense woodlands, this region offers a peaceful introduction to the Highlands.

Continuing north, the scenery becomes even more dramatic as we approach Glen Coe. Famed for its rugged beauty and tragic history, this glen is surrounded by towering peaks and sweeping valleys - one of Scotland's most iconic and atmospheric landscapes.

Our route then leads to the village of Fort Augustus, situated on the southern shores of Loch Ness. There will be time to enjoy views across the loch and, if you wish, you may choose to join an optional cruise in search of the legendary Nessie.

This morning is yours to enjoy at leisure in Fort Augustus. You may wish to explore the village or opt for a cruise on Loch Ness to experience the loch from a different perspective.

Later, we visit the striking Eilean Donan Castle (entrance not included). Set on a tidal island at the meeting point of three sea lochs, the castle dates to the 13th century and has played a pivotal role in Highland history, including the Jacobite uprisings. Fully restored, it offers a fascinating insight into the past, with panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.

From here, we cross the bridge to the Isle of Skye and settle into our base for the night.

Today is dedicated to exploring the Isle of Skye with your expert driver-guide, who will tailor the day’s itinerary to showcase the island’s highlights. Potential stops include the dramatic Cuillin Mountains, the historic Black Houses, the Kilt Rock waterfall, the Old Man of Storr and the breathtaking Trotternish Peninsula. You may also visit Portree, Skye’s colourful harbour town and capital.

Expect a day filled with dramatic scenery, rich heritage and memorable sights.

After a second night on Skye, we travel south to catch the ferry from Armadale to the picturesque fishing village of Mallaig (ferry crossing subject to availability), where we stop for lunch.

In the afternoon, we board the Jacobite Steam Train - famously known as the Hogwarts Express from the Harry Potter films - for a one-way journey through some of Scotland’s most spectacular Highland scenery. Highlights include the sweeping Glenfinnan Viaduct and views of remote lochs and glens.

At Fort William station, your driver-guide will meet you for the onward journey to Pitlochry. This charming town is known for its Victorian architecture, riverside walks, and the historic Pitlochry Dam and Fish Ladder.
