Set off on a remarkable 12-day journey from Lisbon to Madrid, tracing the legacies of empires across Spain and Morocco. Wander through the Roman ruins of Mérida, feel the rhythm of Seville’s flamenco nights, and admire the hilltop charm of Ronda. Sail across the Strait of Gibraltar to Morocco, where Tangier’s coastline, Fes’s labyrinthine medina and Marrakesh’s dazzling souks await. Explore Casablanca’s grand mosque and Rabat’s royal quarter before returning to Spain for the Moorish masterpiece of the Alhambra and the storybook streets of Toledo. A true cultural odyssey from Europe to Africa and back.
Itinerary
Day 1
Lisbon to Merida & Seville
Lisbon - Merida (Spain) - Seville. We depart from Lisbon at 7:30 a.m., travelling towards the Spanish border to reach Mérida. You’ll have free time to explore its remarkable archaeological complex, including the Roman Theatre and Amphitheatre – both UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Lunch is at leisure. We then continue along the Autovía de la Plata (Silver Route) towards Andalusia, arriving in Seville
Please note: This tour is bi-lingual and will be conducted in Spanish as well as in English.
Only one piece of luggage is permitted per person. In Morocco, passengers must clear customs personally with their own luggage. Passport details are required at least 72 hours prior to departure. The Moroccan portion of the itinerary may be modified without substantial variation to the services included. Meeting Point: Hotel Lutecia Smart Design, Av. Day 2
Exploring Seville
After breakfast, we enjoy a morning sightseeing tour of Seville, visiting María Luisa Park, Plaza de España, and viewing the exterior of the impressive Cathedral with its famous bell tower, La Giralda. We also explore the charming Santa Cruz district, known for its narrow streets, small squares, and vibrant atmosphere. During your free afternoon, you may wish to take an optional cruise along the Guadalquivir River, offering panoramic views of the Gold Tower and Expo 92 site, or visit the historic Maestranza bullring. Lunch at leisure. In the evening, you may choose to attend an optional flamenco show.
Day 3
Seville,Ronda and Costa del Sol
Seville - Ronda - Costa del Sol. Breakfast at the hotel. We set off along the Route of the White Villages towards Ronda. Enjoy free time to explore this picturesque town, dramatically perched above a deep gorge. We then continue to the Costa del Sol.
Day 4
Costa del Sol to Tangier (Ferry Crossing)
Costa del Sol - Tangier. After breakfast, we travel from the Costa del Sol to embark on the ferry crossing the Strait of Gibraltar to Tangier. On arrival in Morocco, we take a guided panoramic tour of the area, including Cape Spartel and the Grottos of Hercules (entrance not included). Enjoy free time in Tangier, with the option to join an excursion to Tétouan.
Day 5
Tangier, Volubilis, Meknès and Fes
Tangier - Volubilis - Meknes - Fes. Breakfast and departure through the Middle Atlas Mountains towards Fes. Our first stop is at the Roman ruins of Volubilis, where we see the main thoroughfare, Decumanus Maximus, leading from the Gate of Tangier to the Arch of Caracalla (217 AD). We continue to Meknès, one of Morocco’s imperial cities and former capital under Moulay Ismail. Here we visit the medina, El-Hedim Square, and the magnificent Bab Al Mansour Gate, considered one of the most beautiful in Morocco. We arrive in Fes in the afternoon.
Day 6
Discover Fes
After breakfast, we explore Fes, the oldest of Morocco’s imperial cities and its intellectual and religious capital. We begin with a panoramic view before visiting the Royal Palace with its seven gates, then continue into the fascinating medina of Fes el-Bali, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. From Bab Boujloud to Es-Seffarine Square, we journey through time – from the 9th to the 19th century – discovering the city’s maze of streets, historic buildings, and artisan quarters such as the tanners and weavers. We visit a medersa (religious school) and end our tour at the coppersmiths’ quarter, where craftsmen still work as they did centuries ago. Lunch is included in a traditional restaurant, followed by a free afternoon.
Day 7
Fes to Casablanca and Marrakesh
Fes - Casablanca - Marrakech. Breakfast and departure to Casablanca, Morocco’s economic capital. Lunch at leisure along the Corniche and time to view the impressive Hassan II Mosque (exterior visit), built by more than 3,000 artisans. We continue to Marrakesh, arriving in the afternoon
Day 8
Marrakesh City Tour
After breakfast, we begin our tour of Marrakesh, another of Morocco’s imperial cities. Highlights include the Koutoubia Mosque – the city’s emblem – and the lavish 19th-century Bahia Palace, crafted by artisans from Fes. We then explore the Mellah (Jewish Quarter), the Kissaria market, and the famous Jemaa el-Fna Square, a vibrant UNESCO-listed cultural space alive with storytellers, musicians, and performers. We continue through the souks, where carpenters, metalworkers, and herbalists display traditional skills. Free time before lunch in a typical restaurant.
Day 9
Marrakesh to Rabat
Marrakech - Rabat. After breakfast, we travel to Rabat, Morocco’s administrative capital and royal residence. On arrival, we visit key landmarks such as the Hassan Tower – an unfinished mosque with over 200 columns – and the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, resting place of the sultan who secured Morocco’s independence. The monument is guarded by the Royal Guard in colourful ceremonial dress. We then stroll through the Kasbah of the Oudayas and its scenic riverside promenade along the Bouregreg. In the evening, enjoy a night tour of the city followed by dinner at a local restaurant
Day 10
Rabat,Tangier and Costa del Sol (Ferry Crossing)
Rabat - Tangier - Costa del Sol. Breakfast and departure to Tangier for the ferry crossing back to Spain. On arrival, our staff will assist with transfers to the Costa del Sol.
Day 11
Costa del Sol to Granada
Costa del Sol - Granada. After breakfast, we depart for Granada to visit the world-renowned Alhambra and Generalife Gardens, the former residence of the Nasrid sultans, admired for their fountains, courtyards, and intricate architecture. Optional evening visit to the Sacromonte Caves to experience a traditional gypsy flamenco show. Please note: If, for any reason, the Patronato of the Alhambra and Generalife does not grant entry tickets for the selected dates, an alternative tour of Granada will be offered. This includes visits to the Palace of Charles V, the Archaeological Museum, the Church of Santa María de la Alhambra, and the Royal Chapel, followed by a walk through the Alcaicería (old silk market) and Cathedral Square.
Day 12
Granada to Toledo to Madrid
Granada - Toledo - Madrid. Breakfast and departure to Toledo, known as the Imperial City for its rich history and impressive monuments. Lunch is included, followed by a panoramic view from the Mirador del Valle and a guided walk through its old quarter. We then continue to Madrid, where our tour concludes.
