Summary
Experience eight unforgettable days travelling from Lisbon to Porto and back, uncovering the best of Spain and Portugal. Wander through the Roman ruins of Mérida, soak up the Andalusian charm of Seville, and take in the mountain views of Ronda and the whitewashed villages en route to the Costa del Sol. Explore Granada’s magnificent Alhambra, the medieval streets of Toledo, and lively Madrid before crossing into Portugal. You’ll visit elegant Salamanca, taste world-famous Port wine in Porto, and stop in Coimbra and Fátima before returning to Lisbon. A rich blend of history, culture and scenic beauty awaits.
Itinerary
Day 1
Lisbon to Seville
Lisbon - Merida - Seville. We depart from Lisbon at 7:30 a.m., travelling towards the Spanish border to reach Mérida. Enjoy free time to explore its remarkable archaeological site, home to the Roman Theatre and Amphitheatre – both designated UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Lunch at leisure before continuing along the historic Autovía de la Plata (Silver Route) towards Andalucía, arriving in Seville later in the day. Meeting Point: Av. Day 2
Discovering Seville
After breakfast, we set out on a morning sightseeing tour of Seville. Highlights include María Luisa Park, Plaza de España, the exterior of the city’s magnificent Cathedral and its iconic bell tower, La Giralda, as well as the charming Santa Cruz district, known for its narrow lanes and flower-filled courtyards. During your free time, you may choose to take an optional cruise along the Guadalquivir River for panoramic views of the Golden Tower and the Expo ‘92 site, or visit the famous Maestranza bullring. Lunch at leisure. In the evening, you may also wish to attend an optional flamenco show to experience the passion of this Andalusian art form.
Day 3
The White Villages and Ronda
Seville - Ronda - Costa Del Sol. Breakfast at the hotel, followed by departure along the picturesque Route of the White Villages to Ronda. Enjoy free time to explore this historic town, dramatically perched above a deep gorge. Later, we continue towards the Costa del Sol
Day 4
The Majesty of Granada
Costa del Sol - Granada. After breakfast, we depart for Granada. Upon arrival, we visit the magnificent Alhambra Palace and the adjoining Generalife Gardens – the former summer residence of the Moorish kings, renowned for their intricate architecture, graceful arches and tranquil fountains. You may wish to take an optional evening excursion to the Sacromonte caves to experience an authentic gypsy flamenco performance.
Please Note: If, for any reason, the Patronato of the Alhambra and Generalife is unable to grant entrance tickets for the selected dates, an alternative city tour of Granada will be provided. This visit will include the Palace of Charles V, the Archaeological Museum, the Church of Santa María de la Alhambra, the Royal Chapel, and a guided walk through the Alcaicería (the old silk market) and Cathedral Square.
Day 5
Toledo and Arrival in Madrid
Granada - Toledo - Madrid. Breakfast at the hotel, then departure towards the Imperial City of Toledo – a city steeped in history and rich in monuments reflecting its Christian, Jewish and Moorish heritage. We enjoy lunch followed by a panoramic view from the Mirador del Valle and a walk through the old town’s winding streets. We then continue on to Madrid
Day 6
Madrid to Porto via Salamanca
Madrid - Salamanca - Porto. After breakfast, we journey to Salamanca, one of Spain’s most beautiful and historic university cities. Enjoy free time to explore its charming old quarter and admire the splendid Baroque-style Plaza Mayor. We then continue north to cross the border into Portugal, arriving in Porto later in the day.
Day 7
Exploring Porto and its Port Wine Heritage
Breakfast followed by a panoramic city tour of Porto, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Highlights include the Cathedral, the Stock Exchange and the Church of Santa Clara. We end the tour with a visit to a traditional wine cellar to sample the city’s world-famous Port wine. The remainder of the day is at leisure for you to explore at your own pace
Day 8
Coimbra, Fátima and Return to Lisbon
Porto - Coimbra - Fátima - Lisbon. After breakfast, we travel south to Coimbra, home to one of the oldest universities in Europe and regarded as the birthplace of fado. Enjoy some free time to explore before continuing to Fátima, one of the world’s most significant pilgrimage centres. Here you’ll have free time to visit the Basilica and Sanctuary. We then proceed to Lisbon, the Portuguese capital, where our services conclude.
