Summary

Discover the beauty of Nepal on this 12-day adventure starting and ending in Kathmandu. Explore the capital’s UNESCO-listed temples, stupas and historic squares before journeying into the spectacular Langtang Valley for an unforgettable Himalayan trek. Following scenic mountain trails through rhododendron forests, alpine meadows and traditional Tamang villages, you’ll gradually ascend deeper into the valley, surrounded by towering snow-capped peaks. The trek’s ultimate highlight is the challenging climb to Tsergo Ri (4,984m / 16,338ft), a demanding high-altitude hike rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of Langtang Lirung, Dorje Lakpa and a sea of Himalayan peaks stretching across the horizon. Combining stunning mountain scenery, rich Tamang culture and rewarding trekking, this adventure offers a quieter yet equally spectacular alternative to Nepal’s more crowded trekking routes.

Itinerary

  • Day 1

    Welcome to Kathmandu

Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, you will be welcomed by your guide with a traditional Dhaka Khada before being transferred to your hotel in Thamel.

The remainder of the day is free to relax and settle into Nepal’s vibrant capital city. You may wish to explore the colourful streets of Thamel, known for its lively markets, cafes, trekking shops and local atmosphere. This is also a good opportunity to prepare for the upcoming trek and experience the unique energy of Kathmandu.

  • Day 2

    Kathmandu Sightseeing

Today we explore some of Kathmandu Valley’s most important cultural and religious landmarks. First we visit the Boudhanath, one of the largest Buddhist stupas in the world and one of the most sacred Tibetan Buddhist sites outside Tibet. The massive white dome and gilded spire, decorated with the all-seeing eyes of Buddha, attract pilgrims from across the Himalayan region.

We continue to Pashupatinath Temple, Nepal’s most important Hindu pilgrimage site dedicated to Lord Shiva. Situated along the banks of the sacred Bagmati River, the temple complex is famous for its traditional pagoda-style architecture and riverside cremation ghats.

Later, we visit Bhaktapur, often called the City of Devotees. This beautifully preserved medieval city is renowned for its rich Newari culture, traditional craftsmanship and impressive architecture.

  • Day 3

    Travel to Syabrubesi

After breakfast, we leave Kathmandu and begin the scenic drive towards Syabrubesi, the gateway to the Langtang Valley. The winding mountain roads pass through terraced farmland, riverside villages and forested hills with spectacular Himalayan scenery along the route. On clear days, we may enjoy views of Manaslu, Annapurna and Ganesh Himal. After descending into the valley, we arrive at the small mountain village of Syabrubesi where our trekking adventure begins.

    Drive time: Approximately 7-8 hours (1550 m, 5100 ft)

  • Day 4

    Trek to Lama Hotel

This morning we begin trekking along the Langtang Khola through forests of oak and rhododendron. The trail follows the river with a mixture of gradual ascents and descents while crossing suspension bridges and passing through peaceful woodland scenery. Along the way, we may spot wildlife including monkeys and a variety of mountain birds. After crossing the Langtang Khola, the trail climbs more steeply towards Lama Hotel, a small settlement surrounded by dense forest.

    Trekking time: Approximately 6 hours (2380 m, 7830 ft)

  • Day 5

    Trek to Langtang Village

Today’s trek gradually ascends through beautiful mountain landscapes with waterfalls, forests and open meadows. As we reach Ghoda Tabela, the valley begins to widen and the snow-covered peaks of the Langtang range come into view. The route continues through yak grazing areas and small seasonal settlements used by local herders.

We pass a Buddhist monastery before arriving at Langtang Village. The village was heavily affected by the 2015 earthquake but has since been rebuilt by the resilient local community. The surrounding scenery offers impressive views of the Langtang Himalayas.

    Trekking time: Approximately 5-6 hours (3430 m, 11253 ft)

  • Day 6

    Trek to Kyanjin Gompa

After breakfast, we continue trekking towards Kyanjin Gompa, the spiritual and cultural centre of the Langtang Valley. Along the route, we pass prayer wheels, chortens, mani walls and traditional stone structures carved with Buddhist prayers. We also pass the largest mani wall in Nepal, an important spiritual landmark in the region.

The trail offers increasingly dramatic mountain scenery as we approach Kyanjin Gompa, surrounded by towering Himalayan peaks and glaciers. After reaching the village, there is time to explore the monastery and surrounding viewpoints while enjoying magnificent mountain views.

    Trekking time: Approximately 4-5 hours (3870 m, 12697 ft)

  • Day 7

    Acclimatisation in Kyanjin Gompa

Today is reserved for acclimatisation and exploration around Kyanjin Gompa.

After breakfast, we can hike to Kyanjin Ri at approximately 4,774 metres for panoramic views across the Langtang Valley and surrounding snow-capped peaks. Alternatively, there is the option to trek towards Langshisa Kharka at around 4,100 metres, passing alpine meadows and remote mountain scenery. These acclimatisation hikes help prepare for the higher elevation of T-Sergo Ri while offering excellent opportunities to experience the dramatic landscapes of the Langtang region.

  • Day 8

    Hike to Tsergo Ri

Today is the most challenging and rewarding day of the trek as we hike to T-Sergo Ri. We begin early in the morning, following trails through yak pastures and rugged alpine terrain before ascending steadily towards the summit.

The climb is physically demanding due to the altitude, but the panoramic views from the top are extraordinary. From T-Sergo Ri, we enjoy sweeping views across the Langtang Valley, glaciers, frozen lakes and surrounding Himalayan peaks including Langtang Lirung, Yala Peak and Ganesh Himal.

We trek back to Kyanjin Gompa, arriving late afternoon and explore the beautiful monastery while enjoying views of the Himalayas, glaciers, birds and yaks.

    Trekking time: Approximately 7-8 hours (5000 m, 16,404 ft)

  • Day 9

    Return to Lama Hotel

After breakfast, we begin descending back down the valley towards Lama Hotel. Most of today’s trek is downhill as we retrace our route through forests, alpine meadows and traditional Tamang settlements. Descending the valley offers different perspectives of the surrounding Himalayan scenery. The changing landscapes and warmer temperatures make for a pleasant day of trekking.

    Trekking time: Approximately 6-7 hours

  • Day 10

    Descend to Syabrubesi

This morning we continue descending through forested trails and riverside paths back to Syabrubesi. The final section of the trek is relatively easier with gradual descents and opportunities to enjoy the peaceful mountain environment one last time.

Upon arrival in Syabrubesi, the remainder of the day is free to rest and relax after completing the trek.

    Trekking time: Approximately 4-5 hours

  • Day 11

    Transfer to Kathmandu

After breakfast, we drive back to Kathmandu following the scenic mountain roads through hills, rivers and rural villages. Upon arrival, there is time to relax at the hotel before gathering in the evening to celebrate the successful completion of the trek with a cultural dinner and traditional performances.

    Drive time: Approximately 8 hours

  • Day 12

    Goodbye Kathmandu

You will be transferred to the airport approximately 3 hours before your international flight.

Depart Nepal with unforgettable memories of Himalayan landscapes, mountain culture, Buddhist traditions and the incredible adventure through the Langtang Valley.
