You must be 18 to travel unaccompanied. For minors traveling with a guardian over 21 years old, the minimum age is 12.
  • What is the recommended dress code to respect local customs in India?

In India, the dress standard is conservative. Loose, lightweight, long clothing that covers shoulders and knees at all times is recommended. Shorts are generally not allowed as they may restrict entry into religious buildings and family homes. A light water and windproof jacket is useful, and a hat is essential. It can be very cold in the hills from December to February.
  • What kind of physical activity can I expect on this tour?

The tour has a physical rating of 3. Activities include guided walks in Leh's Old City, drives across high mountain passes, visits to monasteries, hikes (e.g., to Yarab Tso Lake and Pangong Lake), and an optional morning yoga session. It is important to acclimate to high elevations like Leh (3500m) upon arrival.
  • Will there be a group leader or local guides on this tour?

All group trips are accompanied by a Chief Experience Officer (CEO) throughout the tour, who will assist with travel, provide information, and suggest activities. Local guides are also used where specific knowledge enhances the experience.
  • What are the modes of transportation used on this trip?

Transportation on this trip primarily involves private vehicles and walking. Road travel in India may differ from Western countries due to varying road conditions and driving styles.
  • Is travel insurance required for this trip?

Yes, travel insurance is compulsory to participate in any of our trips. You will not be permitted to join the group without evidence of medical coverage, with a minimum of USD 200,000 for repatriation and emergency rescue. Policy should also cover personal liability, cancellation, curtailment, and loss of luggage.
  • Are international flights included in the cost of this trip?

No, international flights are generally not included in the price of your tour, unless specifically noted for some combo tours between two different countries.

Optional activities include an Astronomy Experience in Leh and a visit to Alchi Monastery and Likir Village.
  • Is there a single supplement for solo travelers?

No, our group trips are designed for shared accommodation and do not involve a single supplement. Single travelers are paired in twin or multi-share accommodation with someone of the same sex.
  • What are the general cultural considerations and challenges of traveling in India?

India is a country with different attitudes to timekeeping, public cleanliness, privacy, and service. Travelers should expect potential culture shock due to pollution, poverty, and crowds. Patience and a good sense of humor are highly recommended, as trains can be late, plumbing temperamental, and power outages common. English is widely spoken.
  • Are there any health considerations I should know before traveling?

Inoculations may be required, and it is your responsibility to consult with your travel doctor for up-to-date medical travel information well before departure. We recommend carrying a First Aid kit, hand sanitizers, and any personal medical requirements. Our leaders cannot administer drugs. Pharmacies in Asia often stock Western drugs, but bring full drug names.
  • What are the visa and entry requirements for India?

All countries require a valid passport (with a minimum of 6 months validity). All travelers must have a valid Indian visa prior to the start of their tour. India offers e-Visas for some nationalities, which can be applied for online. It is vital to check the latest requirements with your local embassy or consulate and complete the e-Arrival Card online within 3 days of arrival if you are a non-Indian national.
  • What are the safety and security considerations for this trip?

We strongly recommend using a neck wallet or money belt for valuables like passports and cash. Leave valuable jewelry at home. Many hotels offer safety deposit boxes. A lock is recommended for luggage. Your CEO can amend itineraries for safety concerns. During free time, use good judgment for optional activities and consider staying in small groups and taking taxis at night. Avoid protests and demonstrations.
  • Is tipping customary in India and how much should I budget?

Tipping service providers such as waiters (approximately 10%) is customary and expected in Asia as an expression of satisfaction. For local guides and drivers, recommendations range from USD1-2 per person per day, depending on service quality and length. Your CEO can provide specific recommendations.
  • When can I do my laundry during the trip?

Laundry facilities are offered by some hotels for a charge. There may be times when you need to do your own laundry, so bringing non-polluting/biodegradable soap is suggested.
  • What is Planeterra?

Planeterra International Foundation is a non-profit organization that turns travel into impact by helping local communities earn income from tourism. They develop and support community-owned businesses (supporting Indigenous people, empowering women, providing youth employment, and protecting the environment) and integrate these projects into tour itineraries. As the largest corporate donor, the tour operator covers all operating costs, ensuring 100% of your donation goes directly to Planeterra projects.
  • Are there any specific itinerary notes, like about festivals?

If you wish to experience the Holi festival, ensure you are in India on March 14, 2025, or March 4, 2026.
  • Who should I contact in case of an emergency during the tour?

For urgent situations, first call the local representative or local office. If no immediate answer, leave a detailed message. For airport transfer complications, contact Sakha Call Center at +91 92787 08888 (from outside India) or 92787 08888 (within India), or Ipshita Kamra at +91 95997 81181. General emergency contact is the South Asia Manager, Sorab, at +91 88518 06614.
  • Are there specific rules regarding illegal drugs or exploitation on this trip?

Illegal drugs will not be tolerated, as they contravene local laws and endanger the group. The exploitation of prostitutes is also contrary to our travel philosophy. CEOs have the right to expel any group member found with drugs or engaging with prostitutes.
