Welcome to Japan! Upon completing customs procedures, you'll be transferred to your hotel in Tokyo via a shared shuttle bus. Once settled, the remainder of your day is yours to explore at your leisure. This afternoon, you'll be briefed on the commencement of your tour. Please note, travellers may join or depart the tour at various stages, but rest assured that the group size will not exceed the maximum limit. Enjoy the freedom to immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere of Tokyo as you begin your unforgettable journey through this captivating country. Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Our day begins with an immersive five-hour guided tour of Tokyo, a city where vibrant modernity seamlessly blends with serene traditions. We'll start with Zojoji Temple, offering one of the most iconic views of Tokyo Tower. Notice the Jizo statues scattered across the temple grounds, each uniquely dressed and believed to watch over children.

Next, we'll dive into the bustling life at Shibuya Crossing, reputed as the world's busiest intersection. We'll then retreat to the peaceful Meiji Shrine, dedicated to Emperor Meiji and his wife, and take a scenic drive along Omotesando Avenue. The tour continues as we admire the elegant Nijubashi Bridge within the picturesque Imperial Palace gardens.

Our exploration will take us through Akihabara, Japan’s electrifying hub for manga and anime culture, before driving by the Kokugikan, the country’s revered sumo wrestling arena. We'll conclude our morning visit in Asakusa, home to the historic Sensoji Temple and the lively Nakamise Street. A delightful lunch will be served at a local restaurant, after which we will return to our hotel for some relaxation.

In the evening, we will reconvene at 6:30 p.m. in the hotel lobby, where our guide will lead us on a metro journey to Shinjuku. Known for its dynamic nightlife, Shinjuku's vibrant streets will offer a perfect prelude to a delicious dinner at a local restaurant. Our guide will ensure a safe return to the hotel by metro, completing a day full of Tokyo's diverse experiences.

Today, we'll embark on a journey to the breathtaking Mount Fuji area, traversing scenic landscapes along the way. Our first stop is Arakurayama Sengen Park, renowned for its beautiful pagodas and iconic views of Mount Fuji. From here, we'll continue to the charming town of Kawaguchiko, nestled amidst mountains and vibrant flowers by its namesake lake. Upon arrival, we will visit the serene Fuji Sengen Shrine, which traditionally marks the starting point for pilgrimages up Mount Fuji.

Our itinerary includes a delightful boat ride on Lake Kawaguchiko, allowing us to fully appreciate the area's tranquil beauty. We'll also ascend Mount Fuji via the scenic road to the Fifth Station at 2,305 metres, offering stunning vistas and surrounded by lush forests.

Please note: The ascent to Mount Fuji may be closed in winter or adverse weather conditions, and we'll go as far as possible under such circumstances.

We'll return to Kawaguchiko, where there will be time for a leisurely walk along the lake. Tonight, we will stay in a ryokan, a traditional Japanese inn, where you can unwind in the onsen, a public bath. Dinner will be provided, and at the ryokan, some rooms will feature traditional Japanese tatami mats, while others are Western-style. Occasionally, arrangements might be made for accommodation in a Western-style hotel.

This morning, we will drive along a scenic route, weaving around picturesque lakes, to reach Iyashi no Sato Nenba. This quaint village, once devastated by a typhoon in 1966, has been lovingly restored as an open-air museum. Its traditional houses now serve as arts and crafts shops, restaurants, and cultural exhibits, offering you a delightful insight into Japan's rich past. Our next stop will be the striking Shiraito Falls, where cascading waters create one of Japan’s most breathtaking natural spectacles, plunging from a height of 20 metres. We then proceed to Nagoya for a visit to the Toyota Museum (admission included), a must for car enthusiasts and a fascinating journey into the world of automotive innovation. Our day concludes in Kyoto, where we will spend the night, allowing you to soak in the unique charm of this historic city.

Today, we’ll be discovering Kyoto, the former capital of Japan, which served as the seat of the Imperial Court from 794 to 1868. Remarkably, this city was spared from bombing during World War II, allowing its rich cultural and artistic heritage to remain intact. Kyoto was also the site where the Kyoto Protocol, a pivotal international agreement aimed at curbing greenhouse gas emissions, was signed in 1997.

Our exploration will take us to some of Kyoto's most renowned landmarks. We’ll start our day in Arashiyama, marvelling at the picturesque Togetsukyo Bridge, aptly named the "Bridge over the Moon," which offers stunning views of the surrounding scenery. Our journey continues as we visit the Tenryuji Temple, celebrated as one of the "five great Zen temples," and a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. A tranquil walk through its enchanting bamboo grove will follow.

Next, we’ll admire the iconic Fushimi Inari Shrine, renowned for its seemingly endless row of torii gates, followed by visits to the Imperial Palace and the glittering Kinkakuji Temple, also known as the "Golden Pavilion." Each site showcases its distinctive beauty and reflects the grandeur of Kyoto's history. Please note, the order of visits may vary.

After our guided tour, you'll have the chance to explore the vibrant district of Gion at your leisure. Known for its traditional wooden machiya houses and geisha culture, Gion offers a captivating glimpse into Kyoto's past and present. Enjoy the lively atmosphere as you wander through this iconic area.

Today, we'll depart from Kyoto and make our way to Nara, where we will visit the impressive Todaiji Temple, a renowned Buddhist temple constructed in 752. Here, you'll have the chance to admire the giant Buddha statue and meet the friendly deer that roam freely in the park. Lunch will be included. Our journey will continue to the Horyu-ji Buddhist Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This site boasts some of the oldest wooden structures in the world and is recognised as Japan's oldest Buddhist temple, playing a significant role in spiritual worship.

As the afternoon unfolds, we'll head to Osaka, arriving in the evening. You'll stay in this bustling and modern city, famed as Japan's second-largest urban area. Later, we’ll explore the vibrant Dotonbori district, celebrated for its lively atmosphere and colourful nightlife.

Today, we set off for Himeji to explore one of Japan's most impressive castle complexes. Admission is included, allowing us to fully experience the architectural grandeur of Japanese castles. After enjoying lunch at a local restaurant, which is part of the day's programme, we continue to the city of Okayama. Here, we visit Korakuen, celebrated as one of Japan's most exquisite traditional gardens, featuring serene lakes, cascading waterfalls, and charming teahouses. By crossing a pedestrian bridge over the river, you have the opportunity to explore Okayama Castle, a 16th-century fortress that was painstakingly rebuilt following World War II. Although an interior visit isn't included, the castle's exterior is a magnificent sight to behold. Afterwards, you have some time to explore Okayama, a lively provincial capital with a population of just over 700,000. It's a bustling city offering insights into contemporary Japanese life. Please note, on certain dates, we might stay in Fukuyama or Kurashiki, and in such cases, a visit to Kurashiki may be scheduled for this afternoon.

Today, we embark on a journey to Kurashiki, a city celebrated for its well-preserved historical centre. You'll have the opportunity to wander through its enchanting streets, where the echoes of the past resonate in every corner. Next, our travels take us to Hiroshima, a city profoundly shaped by the atomic bomb in 1945. Here, we will visit the Peace Memorial Park, the Atomic Bomb Dome, and the poignant Peace Memorial Museum, all bearing testament to the city's history and resilience.

After taking in these solemn reflections, we seek tranquillity by sailing to the island where human and divine realms are said to coexist. On this island, we'll visit the iconic Itsukushima Shrine, revered as the protector of the seas and built partially over water. You will have time to explore the shrine, stroll around the quaint town centre, and enjoy your lunch. As the day winds down, we return to our hotel in Hiroshima for an included dinner. Please note, the sequence of visits in Hiroshima might vary slightly, but the overall itinerary remains unchanged.

Today, we embark on a scenic ferry journey to Shikoku Island, which takes around two and a half hours, offering a perfect opportunity to appreciate Japan's unique geography as an archipelago. Upon arrival in Matsuyama, we'll take a cable car to explore the city's remarkable castle, which offers stunning views of the surrounding area. Next, we'll visit Ishiteji, a beautiful Buddhist temple that's a popular pilgrimage destination, known for its rich history and serene atmosphere. A delicious lunch at a local restaurant is included, providing a taste of the regional cuisine. Later in the afternoon, you can unwind at Dogo Onsen, a historic Japanese bathhouse dating back to the 19th century, where we've arranged for your admission. This traditional onsen experience is the perfect way to relax and reflect on the day's adventures.

Today, we'll venture to Kotohira, where we will visit the revered Shinto shrine dedicated to the God of sailors. This important pilgrimage site is dramatically situated on Mount Zosu, and reaching it involves a climb of 785 steps. Our journey continues to Takamatsu, where we'll explore Ritsurin Garden, celebrated as one of Japan’s most exquisite gardens. After enjoying lunch in a local eatery, we proceed to Naruto. Here, we’ll marvel at an impressive sea-spanning bridge, a marvel of engineering that offers a unique view through its glass floor – 45 metres above the swirling sea whirlpools. Then, we'll embark on a scenic drive across a series of stunning bridges connecting beautiful islands before arriving in Kobe for our overnight stay.

Today, we'll start our journey in Kobe with a visit to the Earthquake Memorial Museum, a site dedicated to commemorating the 1995 earthquake and the extraordinary recovery of the city. From there, we'll travel to Osaka and onward to the sacred Mount Koya, Japan's paramount centre for Shingon Buddhism. This revered pilgrimage destination hosts 120 temples and monasteries. Our exploration will include Okuno Mausoleum—an immensely spiritual site set amid nature with over 200,000 graves—and the historical Kongobuji Temple, originally erected in 1593. We'll embrace the serene atmosphere by spending the night in a Buddhist monastery, where monks will guide us through a Zen meditation (Ajikan). Dinner, consisting of a vegetarian meal, is included. Those who wish may participate in the temple's religious ceremony before breakfast the following day. Please note that on specific dates, the Earthquake Museum visit might be replaced with a visit to the Sake Museum or Kobe Tower, and the meditation experience might not be guaranteed during peak times. The monastery offers an authentic experience with simple rooms, traditional tatami mats, and shared bathrooms. Given the limited accommodations at Mount Koya, some groups may be housed in nearby hotels with half board included.

We begin our day with a traditional Japanese breakfast at the temple, immersing ourselves in the serene morning atmosphere of Mount Koya. As the first light dawns, we set off for Kyoto, where you will have the entire day to explore at your leisure. Our guide will offer suggestions to help you make the most of your time, ensuring you can discover the most captivating and iconic sights of this enchanting city. You'll have the freedom to wander through Kyoto's historic streets, take in its beautiful temples and shrines, or perhaps enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of its bustling markets. Whatever you choose, this free day provides a perfect opportunity for personal discoveries in one of Japan's most fascinating cities.

Today, we will embark on a journey to Tsumago, a picturesque village renowned for its well-preserved wooden houses, offering a glimpse into traditional Japan. As we travel through the scenic countryside, you'll enjoy breathtaking views that embody the charm of rural Japan. Once in Tsumago, you'll have free time to wander its quaint streets and immerse yourself in its tranquil atmosphere. A delicious lunch is included, allowing you to savour local flavours.

In the afternoon, our journey continues to Matsumoto, a vibrant city rich in history and culture. Our visit includes Matsumoto Castle, affectionately known as "The Crow" due to its striking black exterior. This impressive 16th-century fortress is one of Japan's most beautiful castles and offers a fascinating insight into the country’s feudal past. After our castle visit, you'll have the opportunity to explore Matsumoto's bustling streets at your own pace, discovering its unique blend of traditions and modernity. We will conclude our day in Nagano, where you'll be treated to a restful overnight stay, ready to embrace the adventures of tomorrow.

Today we explore Nagano, starting with the revered Zenko-ji Temple, which is home to the first Buddhist image ever brought to Japan. During our visit, you’ll experience the Gomakuyo ceremony, offering blessings and promoting good fortune. Next, we’ll journey into the breathtaking Japanese Alps to the Jigokudani Monkey Park, where you’ll share a delightful lunch amidst the beautiful surroundings. As you stroll through the serene forests and alongside rivers, you’ll encounter the famous Japanese macaques, often seen enjoying the park’s hot springs.

We then continue our ascent to remarkable high-altitude landscapes, reaching heights of 2,172 metres and passing by semi-active volcanoes. Our travels take us to the charming spa town of Kusatsu, renowned for its lively main square. You’ll enjoy a leisurely walk through the town park, which features an open-air onsen. Following this, we journey to Ikaho, another picturesque spa town, noted for its historic centre and iconic stair-stepped streets. Tonight, we’ll stay at a ryokan, a traditional Japanese inn, where you can unwind in its baths and relish a delicious traditional Japanese dinner.

Note: During the autumn season, the movement of the monkeys may be unpredictable due to the availability of mountain fruits. Should they not venture down from the mountains, the park might be closed. Additionally, adverse weather from November to April could lead to the cancellation of our Kusatsu visit.

Today, we bid farewell to Ikaho and set off towards the captivating town of Nikko. Here, we'll visit the magnificent Nikko-Toshogu Temple, famed for its extraordinary 'Room with the Sound of a Dragon.' Our exploration continues at the Taiyuinbyo Mausoleum, a peaceful and awe-inspiring site that invites reflection. We'll then take a tranquil stroll through the Kanmangafuchi Abyss, where hundreds of Jizo statues stand as silent guardians along the riverbanks.

You'll have some free time to wander through Nikko’s charming town centre, allowing you to soak up the unique atmosphere. Post-exploration, we head back to Tokyo, arriving around 6:30 p.m. As our journey concludes, you'll depart with cherished memories of your travels. Ensure you check your flight arrangements in case an additional night’s stay is required. While your transfer to the airport is not included, our guide will gladly offer advice on the most efficient public transport options to suit your onward journey.
