Itinerary
Day 1
Athens Arrival, City Orientation Tour & Welcome Dinner
Welcome to Greece! Upon your morning arrival, proceed to your hotel in Athens. Here, you'll meet your tour leader, who will brief you on the itinerary. We’ll then initiate our journey with an orientation tour of this ancient city, taking in iconic landmarks.
A highlight of the tour is witnessing the traditional changing of the guard ceremony. For food enthusiasts, you can choose to join the optional Athens Food Tour, offering a delicious sampling of local street food, fresh produce, and sweet treats. In the evening, we will gather for a welcome dinner featuring authentic Greek cuisine, providing the perfect opportunity to acquaint yourself with your tour leader and fellow travellers.
Day 2
Athens to Kalabaka via Thermopylae & Meteora Sunset Drive
This morning, we depart Athens and journey to Kalabaka. On our way, we’ll stop at Thermopylae to see the statue of Leonidas, the legendary King of Sparta. Upon reaching Kalabaka, a key location for exploring the remarkable landscapes and monasteries of Meteora, we will visit a Byzantine art workshop to observe skilled artisans crafting traditional Greek Christian art.
Once in Kalabaka, you’ll check into your hotel and have some time to relax. In the evening, we'll embark on a scenic sunset drive through the Meteora hills, offering stunning vistas of the monolithic pillars and cliff-top monasteries—a true photographer's delight.
Conclude the day with a delightful dinner featuring authentic Greek dishes at the hotel, perfect for tasting the region's culinary delights.
Day 3
Meteora (Optional Monasteries Visit) & Travel to Delphi
This morning, enjoy some free time in Kalabaka. You can explore independently or choose to join an optional excursion to the remarkable monasteries of Meteora. Discover the stunning hills and sandstone formations as we visit two spectacular cliff-top monasteries, each offering incredible views and a sense of historical and spiritual significance.
In the afternoon, we will journey across the mountains of central Greece to Delphi. Upon arrival, your tour leader will guide you on an orientation tour, providing insights into this ancient site, once considered the centre of the world in Greek mythology. End the day with an included dinner, leaving you free to relax or explore at your leisure afterwards.
Day 4
Delphi (Optional Site Visit), Coastal Drive & Travel to Olympia
This morning, you have free time or can opt for a highly recommended guided excursion to Delphi. Discover the Sanctuary of Apollo and the Treasury of the Athenians and explore the renowned Delphi Museum.
Next, we travel along the Coast of Corinth and take a short ferry ride to Trizonia, a charming Greek island that's largely car-free and spans 2.5 square kilometres. Here, you can roam independently or enjoy lunch at a local eatery.
We'll then return by ferry to Glyfada, followed by a journey to ancient Olympia, famed as the birthplace of the original Olympic Games in 776 BC. This evening, immerse yourself in Greek culture with an optional evening of traditional food and dance.
Day 5
Olympia Guided Tour & Transfer to Nafplion
Experience the marvels of Olympia with our guided tour of the Olympia Museum and adjacent ancient site, delving into the birthplace of the Olympic Games. We then journey to the charming town of Nafplion, Greece's former capital, with its skyline dominated by the impressive Palamidi Castle.
Lunch is included, allowing you to savour local flavours. Afterwards, you have the option to visit Epidaurus, home to the ancient theatre and central to Greece's cultural heritage. We'll return to Nafplion to check into the hotel for a relaxing evening.
Day 6
Mycenae Visit, Corinth Canal Stop & Athens City Tour
Join us as we delve into the ancient world at Mycenae, exploring the fabled tomb of Agamemnon and the iconic Lion Gate, rich in Greek mythology. Our expert guide will lead us through these historic grounds. We then travel towards Athens, stopping for a photo opportunity at the scenic Corinth Canal.
Upon reaching Athens, immerse yourself in the city's history with a knowledgeable local guide. You'll visit the Academy, the National Library, the Greek Parliament, the Panathinaikos Marble Stadium, Hadrian’s Arch, and the Temple of Olympian Zeus. Our tour concludes at the Acropolis, where you may choose to join an optional guided tour. Please ensure this is booked in advance of your trip.
This evening, relax and enjoy an included group dinner in Athens.
Day 7
Departure from Athens
Our memorable Greek adventure concludes this morning. We will gather for a final breakfast together, offering a perfect opportunity to exchange contact details to stay in touch. Wishing you safe onwards travels!
