Greece Classical Journey - 8 Days

On arrival at Athens airport, you will be warmly welcomed and transferred to your hotel in an air-conditioned luxury car or coach. After breakfast, we begin a guided tour of Athens, starting with the city centre and Constitution Square (Syntagma), where you will see the House of Parliament, the Memorial to the Unknown Soldier, and the National Library. En route to the Acropolis, we pass Hadrian’s Arch and the Temple of Olympian Zeus. We make a brief stop at the Panathenaic Stadium, the site of the first Modern Olympic Games in 1896. At the Acropolis, we explore key monuments from Athens’ Golden Age, including the Propylaea, the Temple of Athena Nike, the Erechtheion, and the iconic Parthenon.

The tour concludes with a visit to the Acropolis Museum, a modern building housing the original statues from the site. You then have the remainder of the day at leisure to explore Athens independently. Overnight in Athens.

After breakfast, we leave Athens and travel along the coastal road to the Corinth Canal, where we pause briefly to admire the views. Continuing on, we visit the Theatre of Epidauros, renowned for its exceptional acoustics. Next, we stop in the charming town of Nafplion for a short photo opportunity before heading to Mycenae. Here, we explore the archaeological site, including the Tomb of Agamemnon.

Finally, we drive through the central Peloponnese, passing the towns of Tripolis and Megalopolis, before arriving in Olympia, the birthplace of the Olympic Games. Upon arrival, we check in to the hotel for an overnight stay.

After breakfast, we visit the Archaeological Site featuring the Sanctuary of Olympian Zeus, the Ancient Stadium, and the Archaeological Museum. Following this morning of history and exploration, we travel through the plains of Elis and Achaia, crossing the impressive bridge spanning the Corinthian Gulf from Rion to Antirion.

We pass the charming towns of Nafpaktos (Lepanto) and Itea before arriving in Delphi, once considered the centre of the world in ancient mythology. According to legend, Zeus released two eagles from opposite ends of the universe, and they met here, marking the navel of the world. Set against a stunning natural backdrop, the sanctuary of Delphi offers a remarkable glimpse into Greece’s past. Upon arrival, we check in to the hotel for an overnight stay.

After breakfast, we visit the Archaeological Site and Museum of Delphi, where you can admire significant artefacts including the remarkable bronze statue of the Charioteer, dedicated to Apollo by Polyzalos.

Following the visit, we travel to Kalabaka, a small town nestled at the base of Meteora’s dramatic rock formations—an extraordinary landscape of towering pillars. Upon arrival, we check in to the hotel for the night.

After breakfast, we explore the remarkable landscape of Meteora, where ancient monasteries perch atop towering rock pillars. We visit two of these monasteries to admire their impressive collections of Byzantine art. Afterwards, we begin the journey back to Athens, travelling through Trikala, Lamia and Thermopylae, where we pause briefly to see the Monument of Leonidas. We arrive in Athens early evening and check in to the hotel for the night.
