Upon arrival in Athens, we will transfer you to your hotel, where you can unwind and enjoy some leisure time to begin your adventure. In the afternoon, you can find key details about the commencement of our tour on the information boards situated in the hotel reception area, ensuring you're well-prepared and informed for the days ahead. Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.

Today, we'll delve into the heart of Athens with a guided city tour that introduces us to some of the city's most iconic landmarks. We'll begin our exploration at the Presidential Mansion, move on to the historic Panathenaic Stadium—famed for hosting the inaugural modern Olympic Games—and then visit the impressive National Library. As we continue, we'll take in the vibrant life of the city’s central squares and explore the newer districts that have sprouted since the 2004 Olympic Games. Our tour culminates with a visit to the entrance of the majestic Acropolis, though entry is not included. In the evening, we'll transport you to Plaka, the city's historical district, teeming with charming Greek tavernas. Here, you can absorb the local culture and perhaps enjoy the vibrant folklore for which Greece is renowned.

On our third day, we set off early from Athens, venturing towards the northern reaches of Greece. Our journey takes us to Kamena Vourla, a lovely seaside tourist destination, offering a refreshing stop amidst beautiful landscapes. Continuing north, we pause at the historic Thermopylae Mountain Pass, famous as the site of a significant battle in ancient history.

Our travels then lead us to the quaint village of Kastraki, where you’ll have free time to enjoy lunch amid picturesque views of the surrounding valley. In the afternoon, we will explore the majestic Meteora, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its awe-inspiring rock formations and ancient monasteries. Admission to one of these historic monasteries is included, providing an insight into the spiritual heritage of the area. We end the day with a delightful dinner in Kalabaka, allowing us to unwind after a day of extraordinary experiences.

We will embark on a scenic journey through northern Greece, marvelling at the magnificent mountain vistas en route to the Aegean Sea. Our first destination is Thessaloniki, Greece's vibrant second-largest city, where you can enjoy free time to explore and savour a leisurely lunch. Continuing our adventure, we cross into Bulgaria, arriving in the region of Bulgarian Macedonia. Here, we visit Melnik, a charming town renowned for its stunning settings and rich history in wine production. We'll round off our day in Sandanski, a delightful spa town celebrated as the birthplace of Spartacus, offering an inviting atmosphere for our overnight stay. Dinner will be provided to conclude our day's exploration.

Today, we begin with a visit to the magnificent Rila Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its fortress-like structure, nestled amid lush forest landscapes. Our journey continues to Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, where we’ll arrive by late morning. After enjoying lunch, we’ll embark on a guided tour of Sofia, discovering its historical and architectural treasures. Highlights include the stunning St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, the ornate Russian Church, the Banya Bashi Mosque, and the city’s expansive squares and avenues, notable for their Stalinist design. Following the tour, you’ll have free time to further explore the vibrant atmosphere of Sofia at your own pace.

We begin the day in Sofia, heading to the historic Bachkovo Monastery, Bulgaria's second most significant monastery, dating back to the eleventh century. Nestled among beautiful landscapes, the monastery provides a tranquil retreat with its three distinct churches. Our journey then continues to Plovdiv, one of Europe's oldest cities. Upon arrival, lunch will be provided before we embark on a tour of the city's most notable attractions. You will have the opportunity to visit the Roman Amphitheatre, the Old Pharmacy, and the Armenian House, gaining insight into the city's rich historical tapestry. As the day draws to a close, you'll have time to reflect on the fascinating blend of history and culture experienced today.

On Day 7, we embark on a scenic journey through the breathtaking Balkan Mountains, commencing with a visit to Kazanlak, located in the famed Rose Valley. Here, we offer you the chance to explore a replica of the UNESCO-listed Thracian Tomb of Kazanlak, with admission included. In this region, you'll also learn about the local tradition of producing rose-based products. Our journey continues with a stop at the Shipka Memorial Church, an evocative tribute to the Russo-Turkish War. After this, we head to Etar, a delightful village that doubles as an open-air ethnographic museum, where we will have included lunch. Our travels then take us to the ancient city of Arbanasi, renowned for its fortress-like architecture. As we continue our journey, we make our way to Romania today, pausing en route to visit the remarkable Basarbovski Monastery. This intriguing pilgrimage site is uniquely carved into the rock, offering an immersive glimpse into the region's spiritual heritage. Crossing the border and traversing the majestic Danube, we arrive in Bucharest around 1:00 p.m. In the afternoon, we'll embark on a panoramic tour of the Romanian capital, taking in its historic centre and the grand Palace of Parliament, a testament to architectural ambition. You'll have some free time afterward to explore the city independently and perhaps indulge in the local culture. Our day concludes with an included dinner, where we come together to reflect on the day's experiences.

Today, we journey through the stunning landscapes of Transylvania, traversing the majestic Carpathian Mountains and verdant forests. Our first stop is Sinaia, where we will leisurely explore the beautiful gardens of the Peles and Pelisor Castles. We then proceed to the dramatic 14th-century Bran Fortress, famously known as Dracula’s Castle, where entrance is included. Following this visit, there will be time for you to enjoy lunch at your leisure. Our travels continue to the enchanting medieval city of Sighisoara, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, renowned for its well-preserved architecture. In the evening, immerse yourself in a distinctive dining experience at Count Dracula’s restaurant, located in the birth house of Vlad the Impaler.

Today, we explore the rich historical and cultural heritage of Transylvania. Our day begins with a visit to a fortified church in Biertan, an area steeped in the history of German settlers and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Admission is included, allowing us to appreciate the architectural beauty and historical significance of this impressive structure. From Biertan, we continue to Sibiu, a vibrant city that once served as the capital of Transylvania. Here, you'll have the chance to wander through charming narrow streets and bustling squares, soaking up the local atmosphere and enjoying a leisurely lunch. In the afternoon, our journey takes us to the remarkable Hunedoara Castle, often hailed as Romania's most beautiful castle, where your entry is included. After marvelling at its grandeur, we proceed to Timisoara. Upon arrival, you'll have free time to explore the city's elegant central squares, stretching your legs and discovering the unique character of this beautiful city.

We will embark on a journey to Serbia, beginning with a border crossing and a three-hour drive to Belgrade. This vibrant capital, where the Danube and Sava rivers meet, will be explored through a panoramic city tour. We will discover the lively city centre, view the parliament, and take a leisurely walk through the historic Kalemegdan Fortress. Our tour also includes a visit to the Museum of Yugoslavia, where Tito's Mausoleum can be found. In the afternoon, you will have some free time to explore the city at your own pace.

Today, we venture through the scenic Vojvodina region, starting with a visit to Sremska Mitrovica. This city, with its charming historic centre along the Sava River, was once a significant part of the Roman Empire, serving as the capital of the Pannonia province. We will explore the Imperial Palace of Sirmium, where you can delve into the city's storied past. Continuing our journey, we'll head towards Bosnia, pausing in Zvornik. Nestled on a river that forms the border with Serbia, Zvornik is one of Bosnia's oldest cities and is deeply connected to the memories of the Bosnian war. The city's history, particularly the displacement of its Muslim population, marks this region with poignant reminders. After a break for lunch and a stroll, we'll proceed through picturesque landscapes to Sarajevo, arriving in the evening. Our exploration will take us through the old town, steeped in a rich Ottoman legacy, where we'll admire a grand mosque over five centuries old alongside a charming fountain. As we depart, prepare to be captivated by the breathtaking scenery en route to Mostar. Arriving in this enchanting city, known for its historic centre and iconic stone bridge, you'll have time to explore, enjoy lunch, and take in the captivating views that mark the divide between Orthodox, Muslim, and Catholic communities. Continuing our journey into Croatia, we may experience a delay at the border before reaching Dubrovnik in the late afternoon. Dinner is included in the evening, allowing you to unwind and reflect on the day's memorable experiences.

On the morning of day 14, we will embark on a panoramic tour of Dubrovnik with a local guide. This city, often regarded as one of Europe's most beautiful, is perched dramatically on a cliff, enveloped by ancient walls and lapped by the Adriatic Sea. The well-preserved historic centre is a testament to its architectural grandeur. Our tour includes entry to the Franciscan Monastery, home to Europe's oldest pharmacy, and the Assumption Cathedral. We'll also enjoy a short boat trip to Lokrum, a nearby island just 15 minutes away, known for its ruins of an 11th-century Benedictine monastery and its role as a filming location for the series Game of Thrones. After our scheduled activities, you'll have free time to explore Dubrovnik at your own pace before we return to the hotel in the late afternoon. Dinner will be provided. Please note, from November to March, there is no boat service to Lokrum, so visits to the island are not included during these months. Occasionally, accommodation may be arranged in Cavtat, a nearby coastal town.

Today, we begin our journey along the breathtaking Croatian coastline, known for its stunning seascapes and numerous islands. Our first stop is the charming town of Ston, famous for its impressive walls, among the longest in the world. As we continue, we traverse the remarkable Pelješac Bridge, offering splendid views over the sea. Upon reaching Split around midday, we'll embark on a guided exploration of the city, including access to the renowned Diocletian's Palace. This extraordinary Roman palace invites you to wander through its maze-like streets while enjoying its spectacular sea vistas. Dinner is provided this evening, ensuring a delightful close to the day.

We will journey into the heart of Croatia, taking in the beautiful, undulating landscapes en route to Plitvice Lakes National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famed for its cascading lakes and dramatic waterfalls. You're invited to stroll along the park's scenic trails or opt for a boat ride on its serene waters. Admission is included for either a boat or a train ride within the park. After enjoying lunch amidst this natural splendor, we'll travel northwards back to the coast, concluding our day in Opatija. Here, you will enjoy a dinner in this charming resort town, known for its vibrant atmosphere and relaxing sea views, before settling into your accommodation for the night. Please note, on occasions of adverse weather or peak tourist visits, we may need to forego the boat or train rides at Plitvice.

We will embark on a journey to Slovenia today. Our first destination is the remarkable Postojna Cave, one of the largest cave systems in the world. Here, we’ll enjoy a unique experience, touring part of the cave by train. Our adventure continues to the enchanting town of Bled, beautifully situated on Lake Bled's shores. We’ll take a charming boat ride to the island in the lake, home to a monastery with a prominent bell tower, nestled at the foot of a medieval castle. Our day will conclude with a trip to Ljubljana, Slovenia's vibrant capital, where we’ll embark on a guided tour to explore this delightful Central European city. Dinner will be provided.

Today, we set off to explore Maribor, Slovenia's second-largest city, renowned for its strong Austrian influences. Here, you can admire the city's historic elements, including its cathedral and castle. Later, we'll cross the border into Croatia, arriving in Zagreb around noon. In the afternoon, we have arranged a panoramic tour led by a local guide, showcasing both the historic Upper Town and the modern neighbourhoods of this vibrant Croatian capital. As the day concludes, dinner will be provided, offering you a taste of local flavours. Please note, during the winter months, to ensure we experience the radiance of Ljubljana in daylight, the city tour might be scheduled before our departure to Maribor.
