Itinerary
Day 1
Inverness to the Isle of Lewis and Harris
Inverness - Ullapool - Stornoway. Arrive in Inverness before 07:45 AM and make your way to the designated meeting point. We will then begin our journey at 8 AM by heading west from Inverness through the striking and remote landscapes of Sutherland. Our morning drive brings us to Ullapool, a picturesque harbour town on the shores of Loch Broom. Known as a gateway to the Northern Highlands, Ullapool offers access to one of the UK's most unspoilt natural regions – and it’s where we’ll board the ferry to the Outer Hebrides.
On board, you’ll find a range of lunch options to enjoy as we sail past the Summer Isles and across to the Isle of Lewis and Harris.
Once we have arrived, you will have the option of joining a visit to the Arnol Blockhouses, where you can meet a traditional Harris Tweed weaver and discover how this iconic cloth was once woven entirely by hand for domestic use, long before industrial techniques reached the islands.
We then continue to Stornoway, the largest town in the Outer Hebrides, which will be your base. After settling into your accommodation, you’ll have time to explore the town at your own pace.
Please note: Scottish weather is unpredictable, so bring suitable clothing for all conditions, a waterproof jacket, suitable walking shoes, sunglasses, and your cameras. Most places accept card payments, but we recommend bringing some cash as well.
Meeting Point: 25 Union Street, Inverness IV1 1QA at 07:45 AM.
Day 2
Ancient Sites & Hebridean Landscapes
Stornoway - Carloway - Rodel -Stornoway. Today, we begin the day with a visit to Carloway Broch, one of the best-preserved Iron Age structures in the Hebrides. Sitting high above Loch an Duin, this ancient stone tower dates back over 2,000 years and offers a fascinating glimpse into Scotland’s past.
Next, we head to the iconic Callanish Standing Stones. While the visitor centre is currently closed, we’ll drive past the site and our driver will do their best to arrange a short stop so you can view the stones up close and explore independently.
You’ll have time to enjoy lunch before we make our way to one of Harris’ most scenic locations – Luskentyre Beach. This stunning stretch of white sand is famed for its natural beauty and featured in the BBC’s Castaway series.
Later, you’ll have the chance to visit Rodel and explore St Clement’s Church – a 16th-century burial site of the MacLeod clan chiefs and widely regarded as the finest medieval building in the Western Isles. You’ll have plenty of time to walk through the church and its peaceful grounds before we travel back to Stornoway via the scenic Golden Road.
Day 3
The Butt of Lewis & Return to Inverness
Stornoway - Ullapool - Inverness. After, our final breakfast, we head to the far north of the island to visit the Butt of Lewis lighthouse – the windiest place in the UK. Built in 1862 by the Stevenson brothers, this striking red-brick tower rises 37 metres above the Atlantic.
We then return to Stornoway, where you’ll have the chance to grab a bite to eat before we board the afternoon ferry. Once back on the mainland, we complete our journey with a drive through the Highland landscapes to Inverness.
Drop off point: 25 Union Street, Inverness IV1 1QA at approximately 7 PM.
