Itinerary
Day 1
Quito / Amazon Jungle
Bienvenidos! Welcome to Ecuador. You’ll be collected from your preferred Quito hotel this morning and taken to the airport, where you’ll fly over the Andes to the river port town of Coca. Here, a lodge representative will meet you and take you to a motorised canoe on the river for a journey to the mighty Napo. The Napo River is the largest river in Ecuadorian Amazon and as you cruise along, you might spot different shore birds, like herons, kingfishers, spoonbills and ospreys. At the lodge, you’ll receive a warm welcome from the local staff, who’ll give you a snack while you’re introduced to the facilities. Later, join your guide for a short hike to the perfect spot for rainforest views, then head back in time for dinner.
Day 2
Amazon Jungle Lodge
The next two days are packed with activities. These may vary depending on the time of year and the weather; however, they normally include wildlife spotting, canoe rides and jungle walks, with the opportunity to learn from a local guide about the many resources the Amazon provides – from medicine to construction and food. Depending on what days of the week you’re at the lodge, you may have the opportunity to meet an indigenous family of the Quichuas del Oriente community or to go on long jungle walks. Whatever you do, you’ll be in one of the most magnificent landscapes on Earth, full of wildlife, incredible plant species – from the tiniest flower to the tallest tree – and communities deeply connected to the land.

Day 4
Quito
After breakfast, travel back to Coca airport for your return flight to Quito, where your trip finishes on arrival. You’re scheduled to arrive at Quito Airport at approximately 12 pm, however flight delays are not uncommon in this part of the world. If you have an outbound flight today, we recommend you book this for after 4 pm. If you need help with extra accommodation and transfers, please contact your booking agent ahead of time.

Re: Yarina Eco-lodge - My husband and I booked a trip to the Galapagos Islands through Intrepid. The boat was the Grand Queen Beatrix that accommodated 16 passengers, and that was great. Intrepid suggested a trip to the Ecuadorian rainforest for 4 days. This trip is what I wish to review. We flew to Coca, Ecuador, which is a non-descript town. We were met by our guide, Henry P. He gave a walking tour of Coca and explained the different Amazon tribes and the Spanish explorers. We then took a 50 minute trip down the Napo River, which the pilot really needs to know as the current is strong, there is natural debris and sand bars to avoid. We finally entered a smaller river and snaked our way through the rainforest for about 10 minutes when it finally opened up to a beautiful lodge: Yarina Eco-lodge. The grounds are well landscaped with flowering trees and bushes. There are about 22 private huts with a porch and hammock. The accommodations were very comfortable with opened windows (with screens) so you could hear silence from a busy world but the chirping of the natural rainforest. The main lodge was a large open dining hall with different sitting areas. The three meals were 5 star so a big shout out to the chef. Our guide, Henry P, grew up barefoot in the jungle and was extremely knowledgable. We hiked the rainforest, paddled the river and learned about the plants and animals. We also visited a local family by taking a boat and then hiked to their home. This was especially wonderful spending the day with this family and learning about their culture. We worked together and made a delicious meal. There was so much we learned and we know have a better appreciation of that area of the world.
