Summary
Glide along the Douro River on this 4-day journey from Porto’s Cais de Gaia to Cais da Ribeira. Unfolding at a relaxed pace, the route winds past terraced vineyards and rolling hills en route to Pinhão, in the heart of the Douro Demarcated Region, where dinner is served at a renowned local winery. A stop in Lamego brings a taste of regional specialities, alongside insights into the river’s rich heritage from an expert speaker. Evenings feature themed dining and a lively Portuguese folklore performance on board, creating an elegant and immersive way to discover northern Portugal from the water.
Itinerary
Day 1
Douro Cruise Embarkation
Porto - Vila Nova de Gaia - Cais da Ribeira. Arrive in Porto before making your way to Cais de Gaia, where boarding begins at 6.00pm. As you come on board, you are welcomed with a cocktail, a relaxed introduction to the days ahead and an opportunity to meet your fellow travellers and crew.
Once we have settled into our cabins, we gather for dinner on board, enjoying our first taste of the region’s cuisine as we dine along the Douro.
Tonight, we remain moored at Cais da Ribeira, in the heart of Porto’s historic riverside quarter, a fitting setting for our first night on the Douro.
Day 2
Porto to Pinhao
Cais da Ribeira - Douro Valley - Pinhao. After an early breakfast on board, we set sail at around 7 am towards Pinhao, cruising through the heart of the Douro Valley. As we travel along this UNESCO-listed wine region, our Chef hosts a Culinary Delight presentation, offering insight into regional flavours and traditions. We conclude with a tasting of the dishes prepared on board.
In the late afternoon, at approximately 5.30 pm, we arrive in Pinhao, widely regarded as the geographical centre of the Douro Demarcated Region, the world’s oldest regulated wine region dating back to 1756.
This evening, we dine at a local winery, where we enjoy Douro wines produced on the estate, surrounded by the terraced vineyards that define this remarkable landscape.
Day 3
Regua, Lamego and Leverinho
Pinhao - Regua - Lamego - Leverinho. his morning, we set sail at 7 am towards Regua. On arrival, we continue to the nearby town of Lamego, one of the Douro Valley’s most historic towns, known for its baroque architecture and long association with winemaking. We explore the city together, discovering its heritage and character, and conclude with a tasting of local products that reflect the flavours of the region.
At around 1 pm, we resume our cruise towards Leverinho Quay. Along the way, we attend a presentation titled Douro River and Region, delivered by a regional expert who shares insight into the history, culture and landscape that have shaped this unique valley.
Once we arrive in Leverinho, we enjoy dinner on board with a Portuguese Night theme, celebrating traditional dishes and regional specialities. Later, we are treated to a folklore show on board, offering a lively introduction to Portuguese music and dance.
Day 4
Disembarkation
Leverinho - Vila Nova de Gaia - Porto. Today, we set sail at 7 am towards Gaia, arriving at approximately 9 am as we cruise the final stretch of the Douro.
After breakfast on board, you will check out is at 10 am Cais da Ribeira. You will then make your way to the airport for your onward flight. Safe travels!
