Itinerary

  • Day 1

    Victoria Falls

Arrive at any time. There are no planned activities until an evening welcome meeting.

  • Day 2

    Victoria Falls/Kasane

Cross the border into Botswana, and stay in Kasane, just outside of Chobe NP. Try to spot the elephants, crocodiles, and hippos this region is famous for during an optional sundowner cruise. Drive to the border and cross from Zimbabwe into Botswana. Continue to the Kasane area, outside the gates of Chobe National Park, home to the largest elephant population in Southern Africa.

Opt to check out one of Botswana's national parks and its thousands of resident elephants, crocodiles, and hippos on a sunset boat cruise on the Chobe River.

  • Day 3

    Kasane/Nata

Opt to rise early for sunrise and marvel at your surroundings as you set out on an optional safari drive in Chobe National Park. Travel to Nata and watch elephants drinking at the watering hole while you dip in the pool on the property, or grab a sundowner at the bar area.

  • Day 4

    Nata/Maun

Prepare for a 1-night/2-day journey into the delta. Travel to Maun, the biggest town in the Okavango Delta area, pick up any supplies needed, and prepare for the journey into the Okavango Delta.

  • Day 5

    Okavango Delta

Enjoy wildlife walks, traditional mokoro excursions, and birding. Learn the ways of the bush from the local polers. The excursion begins with a drive in customized safari vehicles for about 1-2 hrs to the "dock" to board a mokoro (canoe) that takes us deep into the delta. After a 1-2 hrs in the mokoro, arrive to the basic bush camp.

In the evening, watch a traditional dance performance.

  • Day 6

    Maun/Ghanzi

Hop into a mokoro with your friends on the way back to Maun. Search for wildlife in the reeds along the river as you make your way back towards civilization. Zoom through the western part of Botswana to Ghanzi; the heart of the Kalahari. Catch a glimpse of how the Indigenous San Bushmen adapted to the Kalahari Desert on a bushman walk. They will teach you about wilderness survival skills in a place that seems uninhabitable.

Then while the day comes to an end, enjoy the warm hospitality of the San Bushmen as the group will be staying at the the tour operator-supported Dqae Qare San Lodge & Camp. The best part? You are making a difference in the lives of this community just by enjoying your time at camp. So sit back, allow yourself to become immersed in their history and culture, sit around the fire, and simply enjoy the moment. Enjoy the sunrise in the delta before travelling back to Maun by mokoro. Travel along the northern portions of the Kalahari Desert throughout the day – this is a severely arid and barren landscape, though very beautiful.

Arrive in the late afternoon and camp in the Ghanzi area.

  • Day 7

    D'kar/Windhoek

Travel to Windhoek, the fascinating capital city of Namibia. Depart from the heart of the Kalahari and head through the eastern part of Namibia.

  • Day 8

    Windhoek

    Depart at any time.

  • What an adventure! I really enjoyed my trip

  • I couldn't have asked for a better Father-Daughter trip than this! The group's vibe, the exciting activities, the comfortable pace, stepping outside our comfort zones, and embracing the bizarre, was the most epic experience of our lives! Thank you G-adventures for strengthening our father-daughter bond! I am a G-fanatic! If I was ever going to take my father on a trip to show him his favorite destination, there is no other company I would do it with. I researched competitors, but G offered the best trip in terms of activity level my dad would be able to handle, comfort in transport and accommodation level, a fine selection of included activities, and regular departures. Even though I was keen to try another operator, G was (yet again) the best fit for my needs.

Yes, travel insurance is compulsory. It must include medical coverage with a minimum of USD 200,000 for repatriation and emergency rescue. We also strongly recommend coverage for personal liability, cancellation, curtailment, and loss of luggage/personal effects.
  • What health considerations should I be aware of before traveling?

We recommend contacting your family physician or local travel clinic at least one month before departure for up-to-date health information. It is compulsory to show a valid Yellow Fever Certificate if you are traveling to Botswana from a Yellow Fever endemic country or have recently visited one. Malaria is present in some regions, and preventative medication (prophylaxis) combined with insect repellent is recommended. Always carry a basic first-aid kit and hand sanitizers.
  • What are the currency and money exchange guidelines for the countries visited?

Namibia uses the Namibian Dollar (NAD), equivalent to the South African Rand. Botswana uses Pula (BWP). Zimbabwe uses the US Dollar and South African Rand. We strongly advise bringing ZAR or USD from your home country or exchanging money before the tour for Zimbabwe due to ATM difficulties. USD notes older than 2006 are not accepted. USD cash is required for border visas. Travelers' cheques are not recommended. Visa/Plus system cards are widely accepted for debit; Mastercard/Cirrus may be harder to use. Credit cards are only accepted in major cities, usually with a 5-10% fee. A combination of foreign currency and debit/credit cards is best due to potential power outages and ATMs running out of cash.

  • Are there any specific safety and security considerations I should know?

Always look after personal items, lock hotel room doors, and do not carry large amounts of cash or display flashy jewelry. Keep passports and important documents locked in your room/safe. Drones are prohibited in national parks in Southern Africa. During free time, use good judgment for optional activities, stay in small groups at night, and use taxis. Avoid protests and demonstrations. Water-based activities should only be done with a guide, and swimming is at your own risk. Refer to the tour operator's safety resources for more details.

  • What are the visa and entry requirements for the countries visited?

All countries require a valid passport with a minimum of 6 months validity. Botswana has a $30 USD tourism levy for most visitors. As of April 1st, 2025, Namibia will introduce a mandatory 90-day visa costing USD90 per person on arrival, and it is recommended to apply prior to travel to prevent delays.
