From exploring vibrant neighbourhoods to being in the beating heart of the city during the parades, THIS is the ultimate way to experience the historic celebrations like a local!

Itinerary

  • Day 1

    Mexico City

Are you ready for six epic days of experiencing one of the most amazing celebrations in the world? Touch down in Mexico and check into your hotel. If you have arrived earlier in the day, drop your bags off and set off into the city for some exploring. The city is electric in the build-up to Dia de los Muertos and if you want to get stuck in right away your Tru Leader will have some suggestions on how to spend your first day in Mexico City. In the evening, once everyone has arrived, we'll head out for some dinner! Let's get to know each other and find out more about what to expect over the next few days!

Please note: Due to the nature of this festival the order of activities is subject to change. Your guide will ensure you experience every epic moment on this itinerary but they may rearrange the order to ensure you get the best experience throughout the trip!

  • Day 2

    Mexico City

Morning all! We're getting our steps in today and starting our first full day with a walking tour around the city. First up we'll head to Paseo de la Reforma to see the sidewalk which gets covered in colourful skulls every year. Here we'll get a true sense of just how big this celebration is - the Mexican locals go ALL OUT and we love to see it! Next up we're leading with our stomachs and heading over to San Juan market where we'll try fresh local fruits and "pan de muerto" (aka dead bread) which is traditionally eaten throughout the festival. Throughout the day we'll pass loads of beautiful ofrendas which are alters set up to honour the memory of passed loved ones and welcome them back home. It is an incredible, poignant festival and we are SO lucky to experience it first-hand!

  • Day 3

    Mexico City

Next up is Xochimilco! This is a suburb just south of Mexico City and it's a must-visit during the Day of the Dead celebrations. Whilst we are here we'll jump on one of the famous colourful boats and travel along the river to explore more of this amazing city. Is it a Tru Day of the Dead trip if we don't visit a cemetery?! Learn how the locals respect their loved ones who are no longer here and see how they celebrate their lives. In the evening we'll head out for some food and get an early night ready for the big day tomorrow!

  • Day 4

    Mexico City

Today's the day! It's the official Day of the Dead! Today we will get to experience the Parade in ALL its glory and watch the floats and festivities go by. It's a busy day and before we get stuck into it it's only right that we dress the part and get our faces painted. We'll spend the morning getting ready and then in the afternoon we'll head into the city to join the festivities. In the evening we'll head out for dinner to debrief today's wonderful madness and share all the photos we've taken!

Please note: The date of the parade will be announced nearer the time but we anticipate it to fall on this day in 2025.

  • Day 5

    Mexico City

Today is the last full day of Day of the Dead celebrations and we're going all out! We'll get up early and head out to Coyoacan which is famous for being the historic centre of Mexico City. Today you will have a chance to visit Museo Frida Kahlo which is a great addition to your trip if you fancy learning more about the iconic artist. If that's not your thing then just wandering around this area will be super cool. It will be lively with community ofrendas, street performances, and bustling markets - the perfect place for us to spend our last full day in Mexico City. In the evening we'll head out for our final meal as a group and share our highlights from this short but sweet trip!

  • Day 6

    Mexico City

It's time to say goodbye...we're not crying you are! It's been a magical few days experiencing the magic of Dia de los Muertos. Today we'll check out of the hotel and start to say our goodbyes. Whether you are continuing to explore Mexico or you are heading home your Tru Leader will be able to help you with your next steps and onward travel!
