Summary
Set off in Bogotá and wrap up in Cartagena on a 12 day adventure across a South American gem. You’ll explore La Candelaria’s cobbled lanes – with the chance to pop into the Gold and Botero museums – then fly to the Coffee Region for a working finca tour, tastings and a walk beneath towering wax palms in the Cocora Valley, plus time in colourful Salento and Filandia. In Medellín, delve into Comuna 13’s street art, ride the cable car and admire Botero’s sculptures. Head to Guatapé to scale El Peñol and cruise the reservoir, before soaking up Caribbean vibes inside Cartagena’s storied Walled City.
Itinerary
Day 1
Bogota
Arrive at El Dorado International Airport (BOG), where we provide a private transfer to your hotel. Once settled, take the rest of the day to relax and start soaking up the atmosphere of the capital, a place where tradition and modernity sit side by side. Overnight in Bogotá.
Day 2
Bogota at Leisure
After breakfast at the hotel, enjoy a free day to explore Bogotá at your own pace – relax, wander and follow your interests. If you wish, you can add an optional tour (not included): Bogotá Private City Tour (min 2 pax – hotel pick up at 9:00 am – duration 4 hours). On this half day walking tour you discover La Candelaria’s colourful colonial streets, visit Plaza de Bolívar, and explore the Gold Museum and the Botero Museum, revealing the city’s rich artistic and cultural heritage. Overnight in Bogotá.
Day 3
Bogota to Pereira
After breakfast, check out. At the scheduled time we transfer you from your hotel to El Dorado International Airport (BOG) for your flight to Pereira (not included). On arrival at Matecaña International Airport (PEI), a private transfer takes you to your hotel. Once settled, take the rest of the day to relax and enjoy the pleasant climate of the Coffee Region. Overnight in Pereira.
Day 4
Santa Rosa de Cabal
Enjoy breakfast, then travel by private transport to the department of Risaralda and the charming town of Santa Rosa de Cabal. At Finca del Café we join a local coffee expert for an immersive tour through speciality plantations, learning each step of the process – from planting and selective hand picking to pulping. We then roast beans over a wood fire in a traditional farmhouse kitchen, a hands on taste of local coffee growing life. Along the way we pause at guadua (bamboo) viewpoints to admire the scenery while savouring a freshly brewed cup. The visit ends with a look at the farm’s drying and processing methods, before we return to the main house for a refreshing coffee lemonade – a fitting finale to a memorable day in the Coffee Cultural Landscape. Overnight in Pereira.
Day 5
Cocora Valley
After breakfast we travel by private transport to the Cocora Valley, passing through the distinctive scenery of the Coffee Cultural Landscape. If the journey is made by Jeep Willys, the visit begins in Salento. On arrival in the Cocora Valley we are welcomed with a warming canelazo – a cinnamon cocktail – before setting off on a trek through this iconic natural area. Here we admire the majestic wax palm, the national tree and the tallest palm species in the world. At the Cocora Natural Reserve a local eco guide introduces the region’s rich biodiversity. Wax Palm Ritual of Quindío – take part in a short storytelling session about ancestral reverence for this tree, followed by the symbolic planting of wax palm seedlings as a gesture of conservation. We then continue to the colourful town of Salento for a walking tour of its colonial streets, with free time for you to browse handicraft shops and cosy coffee houses. You may also choose an optional activity (not included), such as a barista show with speciality coffee at Jesús Martín Café. We continue to Filandia to visit the historic centre and the Quindío Viewpoint (entrance included), with chances to see traditional basketry workshops and, if you wish, purchase handmade crafts. The day concludes with a local gastronomic tasting before we return to the hotel. Overnight in Pereira.
Day 6
Pereira to Medellin
After breakfast, check out. At the scheduled time we transfer you from your hotel to Matecaña International Airport (PEI) for your flight to Medellín (not included). On arrival at José María Córdova International Airport (MDE), a private transfer takes you to your hotel, with assistance for luggage and check in for a smooth start to your stay in Medellín. Overnight in Medellín.
Day 7
Exploring Medellin
After breakfast, we delve into Medellín’s remarkable transformation from turbulence to innovation. We begin in Comuna 13, where powerful street art and the famous outdoor escalators showcase social inclusion and renewed connectivity. We ride the San Javier Metrocable for sweeping views of the city, then continue to Botero Plaza in the city centre to see 23 bronze sculptures by the renowned artist Fernando Botero. Throughout, we explore how art, ingenuity and community spirit have reshaped the city into a beacon of hope. Overnight in Medellín.
Day 8
Exploring Medellin
Breakfast at the hotel, then we set out for Guatapé and the iconic Piedra del Peñol. Climb 740 steps up this 200 metre monolith to revel in panoramic views of a dazzling mosaic of islands and emerald green waters. We then explore Guatapé, famed for its vibrant zócalos and colourful façades that depict local stories and traditions. Enjoy a traditional local lunch by the reservoir, followed by a relaxing boat ride to admire the landscape from the water – a perfect blend of nature, culture and gentle adventure in the heart of Antioquia. Overnight in Medellín.
Day 9
Medellin to Cartagena
After breakfast, check out. At the scheduled time we transfer you from your hotel to José María Córdova International Airport (MDE) for your flight to Cartagena (not included). On arrival at Rafael Núñez International Airport (CTG), our representative assists you and provides a comfortable transfer to your hotel. Take the rest of the day to relax and begin soaking up the warm Caribbean atmosphere of this enchanting city, where history, culture and the sea blend beautifully. Overnight in Cartagena.
Day 10
Exploring Cartagena
After breakfast, we uncover the history and character of Cartagena on a guided tour in a comfortable air conditioned vehicle. Your expert guide shares stories of the colonial past and insights into daily life. We begin with a panoramic drive along Castillo Grande Bay, admiring elegant Moorish and Republican style architecture. Next, we visit the Convent of La Popa on the hilltop for the finest panoramic views of the city, then continue to the imposing San Felipe de Barajas Fortress, the greatest example of colonial military engineering in South America. Afterwards, we stop at Las Bóvedas, now filled with colourful handicraft shops ideal for local souvenirs. Finally, we enjoy a guided walk through the Walled City, exploring plazas, cobbled streets and handsome colonial buildings that tell the story of this UNESCO World Heritage gem. Overnight in Cartagena.
Day 11
Cartagena at Leisure
Breakfast at the hotel. Take the day to relax and enjoy Cartagena at your own rhythm – wander its picturesque streets, feel the vibrant Caribbean vibe or unwind at your hotel. If you wish, you may spend the day on nearby beaches or add an optional excursion (not included). Optional Emerald Tour (min 2 pax – hotel pick up at 8:00 am – duration 4 hours – operates daily except Sunday): delve into the world of emeralds at the Emerald Museum, where history, geology and craftsmanship reveal how these captivating green stones form and become dazzling jewels.
