  Accommodation includes 2 nights in multi-share hostels and 5 nights in hotels. A variety of hotel/hostel styles are used, which may differ from what you are used to. Multi-share rooms may involve 4-6 group members and often have shared bathroom facilities. Hot water shortages and power outages can be common in some areas.

  The tour includes 7 breakfasts and 1 lunch. Generally, other meals are not included to provide flexibility in choosing where, what, and with whom to eat, and to offer budgeting flexibility.

  Transportation on this trip will primarily involve private vehicles and walking.

  Yes, travel insurance is compulsory. You will not be permitted to join the group without evidence of travel insurance covering at least USD200,000 for medical expenses, emergency evacuation, and repatriation. Personal liability, cancellation, curtailment, and luggage loss coverage are strongly recommended.

• What should I know about Tayrona National Park and potential closures?

  Tayrona National Park will be closed on certain dates in February, June, October, and November for ecosystem rest and maintenance. If your trip falls during these dates (e.g., February 01-15, June 01-15, and October 19 - November 02 in 2025), you will visit Taironaka Park instead, where you can tube down the Don Diego River, connect with the local Kogi people, and learn about their cultural practices.

• Is there an extra cost for solo travellers?

  Our group trips are designed for shared accommodation, and solo travellers are paired with someone of the same sex, so there is no single supplement cost for this tour. However, for nights 3-6, there are exceptions for 'My Own Room' requests.

• What should I know about currency, credit cards, and exchanging money while on this tour?

  The local currency is COP (Colombian Pesos). Credit and debit cards (especially Visa) are useful for cash advances, and ATMs are widely available, but their functionality cannot be guaranteed. A 5-10% fee usually applies for credit card purchases. It's best to carry a combination of COP, traveller's cheques, and cards. Ensure notes are in good condition and in denominations lower than 100USD (or equivalent).

• How much spending money and emergency funds should I bring?

  Spending money requirements vary by individual habits (drinks, shopping, tipping). In addition to your personal spending, please ensure you have access to at least an additional USD $200 (or equivalent) as an emergency fund for unforeseen circumstances.

  Tipping service providers like waiters at approximately 10% is customary and an expected, though not compulsory, part of your tour. Recommendations for tipping local guides and drivers range from $5-10 USD per day. For your CEO (Chief Experience Officer), a guideline of $40-50 USD per person per week is appreciated.

  Inoculations may be required, and it is your responsibility to consult with your travel doctor well before departure. A First Aid kit and hand sanitizers are recommended. This trip travels to high altitude (over 8,000 feet/2,440 meters), and while most people have minimal effects, altitude sickness can occur regardless of fitness or age. Proof of yellow fever vaccination may be denied entry to Tayrona National Park, so consult your travel doctor.

• Who will be leading the tour group?

  All group trips are accompanied by a Chief Experience Officer (CEO). The CEO will facilitate your travels, provide information on destinations, suggest activities and local eateries, and introduce you to local contacts. They possess broad general knowledge of the countries visited, and local guides are also utilized for specific insights.

• What is included in the tour price?

  The tour includes a welcome meeting with your CEO and group, a CEO-led orientation walk in old town Cartagena, a walk to the Marinka Waterfalls outside Minca, a Tayrona National Park visit and moderate hike, a Palomino beach bonfire, a CEO-led orientation walk in Santa Marta, and free time for optional activities in Cartagena, Minca, Palomino, and Santa Marta. Transport between destinations and to/from included activities is also covered.

• Are international flights included?

  No, international flights are generally not included in the price of your tour. Check-in times and baggage allowances vary by airline, so contact your airline for the most up-to-date information.

• What are the safety and security guidelines?

  We recommend checking your government's travel advice. Use a neck wallet or money belt for valuables and leave expensive jewelry at home. Many hotels have safety deposit boxes. While cities are generally safe during the day, stay in small groups and use taxis at night. Water-based activities should only be undertaken with a guide. Swimming, including snorkeling, is at your own risk.

  Illegal drugs are not tolerated on any trips and contravene local laws and endanger the group. The exploitation of people in the sex trade is also strictly against our philosophy. CEOs have the right to expel any group member found in possession of drugs or utilizing the services of paid sex workers.

  All countries require a valid passport with a minimum of 6 months validity. It is your responsibility to check with your local embassy or consulate for the most up-to-date visa requirements based on your nationality. Proof of yellow fever vaccination may be required for entry into Tayrona National Park.
