  • Organizing the trip via email, Mohamed was quick to reply to any questions or concerns I had. Me and my partner did a 4 day trek through the Berber villages. As soon as we arrived to start the trek we were well taken care of by Mohamed and our guide Hassan so we had to worry about nothing besides walking. We did this trek in February (low season) so their were hardly any one else on the trail and lots of snow at higher elevations. This was the highlight of our 2 week morocco trip and would highly recommend Aztat Treks.

  • We did a 4 day Trek lead by our guide Hassan with Ibrahim looking after the mule and preparing our meals. From the moment we were picked up from our riad in Marrakesh to the moment they dropped us back, everything operated like a well oiled machine. Our guide and cook were experienced and professional but always warm and friendly. During our hikes, Hassan would provide us with a wealth of information about the various small villages, wildlife and mountains that we passed. At mealtimes Ibrahim would prepare us lovely fresh vegan food in breathtaking locations, always with a smile on his face. Somehow, with just the equipment and ingredients he carried with him, he would prepare large and varied meals that exceeded most restaurant offerings. In the evenings the they would go above and beyond to make us comfortable despite the freezing temperatures outside. Our next trip to Morocco will definitely involve another adventure with Aztat, and I hope we have these wonderful people looking after us again.

Frequently asked questions

  • Can my dietary requirements be catered to?

Absolutely. When you confirm your booking just let us know of any dietary needs to ensure these are met. Please also remind your guide and cook on the first day of the trek.
  • How fit do I need to be?

Mount Toubkal is the highest mountain in North Africa. The Hike to the summit is challenging, previous mountaineering experience is not needed, however you will need a good level of fitness.
  • Can I arrive in Marrakech on day 1 of the trip?

Yes, you can however, the latest arrival time on day 1 is 10am, so please arrive with plenty of time and allow for any possible delays.
  • How long will I Trek for each day?

Day 1 being the shortest trekking day, you will Trek for around 4- 5 hours. The longest trekking day is day 4 when you reach the summit, this day you will trek for around 8 – 9 hours. Day 2 and 3 is around 7 hours of trekking.
  • I am trekking in November; do I need to bring equipment with me?

For trekking the winter months November – April you will need Crampons, Ice axes and Gaiters as well as your usual equipment. If you don’t have your own, these can be hired locally for a small fee.
  • Can I rent a sleeping bag before the trip?

Equipment needed can be rented locally in Imlil before starting the trek
  • Can you recommend a riad to stay before the trip?

Riad View Point in Marrakesh is a great option that we can book for you, and we'd also recommend the Ouirgane Ecolodge not far from Imil, in the Atlas mountains if you would like a day to relax before your return to the hustle and bustle of the city.
  • How difficult is this climb?

Toubkal is moderately difficult due to the altitude you will climb to so it should not be booked at the last minute (with out time to train) unless you are exercising regularly. If you plan ahead most people can complete it with the right training! From a technical perspective it's relatively easy, with no special skills being required for summer climbs. We would recommend including several long day walks, including ascents and descents in this - the gym is good, but not enough if you haven't done any hill walking before.
  • What do I need to bring?

You can find a full packing list in the PDF brochure. You can download this on this page.
  • How do I carry my luggage on the trek?

A max 90 Litre, 20kg, Duffle bag or similar soft bag is required to pack to be carried by mules or porters. In winter please ensure you bring a bag with straps as these will be carried by porters for the last stretch rather than mules. Luggage not required on trek can be left in Imlil, or your accommodation in Marrakesh if relevant. You will need a comfortable small daypack to carry your belonging to need through the day.
