Summary
Discover Morocco on this 10-day journey starting and ending in Casablanca, packed with imperial cities, desert landscapes and cultural gems. From the grand Hassan II Mosque and the ancient ruins of Volubilis to the maze-like medina of Fez, you’ll explore the country’s rich heritage at every turn. Wander Rabat’s landmarks, soak up the energy of Marrakech’s souks and Jemaa el-Fna, and cross the High Atlas Mountains to Ait Benhaddou. Travel through the Draa Valley and pre-Saharan villages, with the option to visit the Merzouga dunes, before looping back via Ouarzazate to Casablanca for your departure.
Itinerary
Day 1
Welcome to Casablanca
On arrival at Casablanca International Airport, please note that airport transfers are not included today. You will make your own way to the hotel and check in.
In the evening, we enjoy dinner at the hotel. The remainder of the night is at leisure.
Day 2
Imperial cities and Roman heritage
Casablanca - Meknes - Fes. We begin our exploration of Casablanca in the Habous district, known for its blend of French and Moroccan architecture. We visit the Royal Palace, Mohamed V Square and the residential area of Anfa, before viewing the impressive Hassan II Mosque, one of the largest mosques in the world, set dramatically on the Atlantic coast.
We then travel to Meknes, the 17th-century Ismaili capital, enclosed by 40 km of ramparts. We see the monumental Bab Mansour gate, the Royal Stables and the historic Jewish quarter.
We continue to the sacred town of Moulay Idriss for a panoramic view, followed by a visit to the Roman ruins of Volubilis, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its mosaics. We then proceed to Fez.
Day 3
Discovering Fes
Today we dedicate the day to exploring Fez, Morocco’s spiritual and cultural heart. We discover the medieval Medina, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with its bustling souks and traditional crafts.
We view the Royal Palace gates and visit either the Attarine or Bou Anania Medersa, fine examples of Marinid architecture. We admire the Nejjarine Fountain and see the exterior of the Moulay Idriss Mausoleum and the Karaouine Mosque, one of the oldest universities in the world.
You may choose to enjoy an optional lunch in a traditional restaurant within the Medina before we continue our exploration.
Day 4
Rabat and the journey south
Fes - Rabat - Marrakech. We travel to Rabat, Morocco’s administrative capital. We visit the Royal Palace - Mechouar and see the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, an architectural masterpiece overlooking the Hassan Tower, the incomplete minaret of a 12th-century mosque.
You may wish to enjoy a seafood lunch at a local restaurant before we continue to Marrakech via the highway.
Day 5
The highlights of Marrakech
We begin our guided tour of Marrakech with visits to the Menara Gardens, the Bahia Palace and the Koutoubia Mosque, whose minaret dominates the city skyline. We also explore the Dar Si Said Museum.
After lunch at the hotel, we head into the lively souks and handicraft quarters, ending in the famous Jemaa El-Fna Square, the vibrant heart of the city.
In the evening, you may opt for a traditional dinner with Fantasia show.
Optional: Dinner with Fantasia Show at Chez Ali Set in traditional Berber tents, Chez Ali offers a festive evening of Moroccan cuisine and entertainment, including folkloric performances, horse riders, music, acrobats and fireworks.
Day 6
Across the High Atlas to Zagora
Marrakech - Ait Ben Haddou - Zagora. We travel across the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n'Tichka Pass at 2,260 metres, enjoying dramatic mountain scenery.
We visit Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and fortified ksar famed for its cinematic history, having featured in films such as Lawrence of Arabia and Gladiator. You may wish to have lunch here.
We then continue through the Draa Valley towards Zagora.
Day 7
Desert landscapes to Erfoud
Zagora - Nkob - Tazzrine - Erfoud. We depart for Erfoud, stopping in Tamgroute, known for its traditional green pottery. Our journey continues through Tansikht, N’Kob, Tazzarine and Alnif, passing striking pre-Saharan landscapes.
You may choose to have lunch in Alnif before we continue via Rissani, birthplace of the Alaouite dynasty, to Erfoud.
Optional: 4x4 excursion to the dunes of Merzouga for sunset Travel by 4x4 to the Erg Chebbi dunes on the edge of the Sahara Desert. These vast golden dunes offer a memorable sunset experience in the Sahara.
Day 8
Along the road of a thousand kasbahs
Erfoud - Tinghir - Ouarzazate. We travel towards Ouarzazate, passing the oasis of Tinjdad and the dramatic landscapes of the Dades Valley.
You may wish to stop for lunch in Tinghir before we continue along the Road of the Thousand Kasbahs, passing Kalaat M’Gouna and the Skoura Valley.
On arrival in Ouarzazate, we enjoy a brief city tour before dinner.
Day 9
Return to Casablanca
Ouarzazate - Marrakech - Casablanca. After breakfast, we depart for Casablanca via Marrakech.
You may choose to enjoy lunch at a local restaurant en route. The afternoon is at leisure before dinner at the hotel.
Day 10
Depart Casablanca
The tour concludes today in Casablanca. Please note that departure transfers are not included.
After breakfast, please make your own way to Casablanca International Airport for your onward flight.
